We'll Let The Fires Just Bathe Us

But Don't You Threaten Me With A Good Time

“Hey, Jack?” I asked.
“Shut up.” He snarled. I sighed and looked out the window knowing that now I didn’t have a choice whether to speak or not.

Damn training.

We pulled into the driveway of a bar. Once he turned off the engine, he grabbed my shirt collar and pulled me close, his eyes dark and threatening. It was like if you looked deep enough into them, you would be able to see all the people suffering in the Fourth Quarter.
“When we go in, you’ll do everything I say. If not, you will pay dearly.” He growled trough gritted teeth. He pushed me back into my seat causing the wind to be knocked out of me. I hesitantly unlocked my seatbelt and got out. I followed him into the bar with my head down. Once we walked in, all the attention was drawn to us. The whole bar fell silent. I hid behind Jack at all the attention. “Come on.” He muttered, walking to the bar. Once he sat down, people went on with whatever they were doing.
“Barakat.” A feminine voice broke our silence.
“Dash.” He returned. I turned my head to see a young women standing. She had dark brown eyes and red hair with a pale complexion. She was quite beautiful but you may not know, I don’t swing that way.
“So is this your new boy toy?” She asked, gesturing to me. I scooted farther behind Jack. I didn’t entirely trust him to protect me but hey, he’s big and I can hide behind him.
“We’ll see.” He said in a low tone making a shiver run up my spine.
“Anyway why have you brought me here? You know Second Quarter needs to prepared for the new arrivals.” She said irritated, telling the bartender to give her bourbon.
“Merrick.” Jack said with a grim expression.
“That was Devon. For fucks sake you should know, you’re the one who scrambled his eggs.” She remarked.
“It wasn’t him. It was Merrick.” He repeated.
“When did you find out?” She asked, receiving her drink and taking a sip. I wondered why she believed him.
“I knew all along.” He replied as if it were nothing.
“What?” I found my voice raising. I was shocked, but I couldn’t help the anger in my voice.
“Alex.” He snapped, signaling me to shut up.
“No! You tortured him when you knew he was innocent!” I cried, just barely able to disobey him. In a flash, Jack had spun around and backhanded me. Normally a backhand isn’t too bad but when you account for Jack’s superhuman strength…Yeah it hurt. My hand flew up to my cheek which was hot from the swelling that had already started. He grabbed my shirt and pulled me closer,
“I told you to shut up.” He snarled. I’ll admit I shrunk back when he released me.
“Anyway, Devon said Merrick forced him to do it. Of course Merrick denied it, but I can tell when a person is lying.”
Amy sighed and gulped down her whole glass.
“Okay I’ll tell the others to keep an eye on him.” She said, standing up.
“Okay but Amy, if he threatens me again, I’ll send him straight to hell.” Jack stated.
“Yeah okay Jacko, we all know you’re the big bad wolf. Quit having a temper tantrum.” She sighed before walking out. Jack’s glare fixed on me making me gulp.
“Come on.” He mumbled, getting up. I followed him out of the bar and on the ride home, I figured this was the best place to question him since he couldn’t really hit me without turning his arm awkwardly.
“Why’d you do it?” I asked.
“Do I need to hit you again!” He asked, irritation evident in his voice.
“You can hit me all you want but the question will still be there.” I retorted.
“Fuck Alex, just drop it!” He exclaimed, speeding the car up.
“No!” I replied, ignoring every nerve of my body that screamed to do as I was told. The car was going so fast everything was a blur.
“See how fast we’re going? One inch in the wrong direction and we’d be spinning. I would survive the crash, would you?” He asked. I knew I wouldn’t, but I also knew that he probably wouldn’t risk injuring, or even killing his host body just to prove a point.
“I asked a question. Meer threats aren’t going to make me shut up.” I said. He stopped the car hard, making my head slam into the dashboard. I saw flashes of light and even though my eyes were open, things were black and hazy. Then within two seconds I passed out.
