We'll Let The Fires Just Bathe Us

So You Can Leave Like The Sane Abandoned Me

Jack’s grip only got tighter when we exited. He threw me into the passenger seat before climbing into his and speeding off down the road. I didn’t dare speak. Not only for my sake, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he stopped the cars around us just to slaughter the people inside. This time the car ride was silent and long but when we finally got home, Jack burst through the front door without looking back. I swallowed and followed him with every intention of going back up to my room but then I thought,

Does he have a cell underground?

I peaked in the living room to check and make sure Jack wasn’t there before beginning to search. The house was huge but I figured it would be underground. On my search, I found a whole room filled with alcohol, a room with a pool table, then I found a row of mettle doors. Not just one, but three. They all had small one foot by one foot windows.

I looked through the first to see a women rocking back and forth in the corner.

I moved to the next one to see a man scratching the brick wall, with his fingernail, he’d managed to carve hundreds of X’s all over the walls.

The next door had another man who was standing in front of the wall, his back to the door, staring at the bricks.

I decided to return to the first door since she seemed the least insane. I cautiously opened it and peaked inside. She didn’t acknowledge my presence.
“Excuse me?” I almost whispered. Her head shot up and she stared at me unblinkingly. I got the overwhelming feeling to run as fast and far as I possibly could but I was rooted to the spot.
“White. Black. Red. Wings. Alex. Jack.” She chanted and my blood ran cold.

She said my name.

“How do you know my name?” I asked.
“They talk about you.” She giggled, then she looked up into the right corner in front of me. “They talk about you. You’re white. White. White. White. But you will be red. Red. Red. Red.”
“Who talks about me?” I asked.
“Everyone! The fourth quarter especially. Alex, Alex, Alex. Jack, Jack, Jack. You are white, he is black. You will become red because of his black.”
“Why are you looking in the corner?” I asked, glancing up there but seeing nothing.
“The question is, why is the corner looking at you?”
