Innocence
Summary
He never thought he’d miss such a simple string of words.
“It’s time to get up.” He hears from his bedside as, what he assumes is, a tray is sat down on his old, wooden nightstand. His eyes screw shut a bit tighter, his eyebrows knitting together as he pretends not to hear the words uttered at him like they always were, and ignores the sound of a chair scrapping across the floor to his left while the voice says in an annoyed tone, “I know you’re awake.”
Jack never thought about it before; how much he both hates and misses that phrase, but as the words are hissed out of his mouth it dawns on Jack how much it really means to him in reality. It has been nearly two years and he’s been hearing the same words growled at him nearly every day and had never once thought about it, but something about today has flooded memories into Jack’s head –memories Jack has both held onto and locked away.
