Chapter 7


When I come back a few hours later, Alex is asleep on the infirmary bed, his head in Mariah's lap.

"I'm sorry for the way he acted earlier. He usually isn't that rude. I hope you can forgive him, he's just really scared." She says, obviously panicked. Alex probably made me sound terrible.

"Oh, you should have seen him last night. Stole a gun, broke quite a few things, did nothing but yell, and spit in my face. That's an improvement." I laugh, making sure to be quiet so I don't wake up Alex. He looks peaceful this time.

"Wh-what? I'm so sorry he-"

"It's fine." I laugh, cutting her off.

"If you don't mind me asking, why aren't we dead?" She asks, playing with Alex's soft brown hair.

"Well, first you didn't do anything wrong, so it wouldn't be fair to you. All though I did bite you to scare him into behaving, but I didn't take any blood. And he's just scared. But if he keeps acting like this for much longer he'll end up dead, but it won't be my command. My boyfriend hates humans, especially males so he should be careful." I say. She nods.

"Mariah, right?" I ask.

"Yea. I mean yes master. Wait, yes sir."

I can't help but laugh. They're always panicked in the begging.

"We're only supposed to have one primary pet, and I don't want to put you with the others because you'll get hurt, so I make it so you'll be my sisters when she becomes a vampire.

"Oh, thank you. Thank you so much." She squeals.

"What awful things did Alex say about me?" I ask. She bites her lip nervously.

"Oh, nothing really." She lies.

"I may be patient, but I really can't stand a liar." I say kindly.

"Ummm... Well you have to understand there's nothing he hates more than vampires, even if they're kind like you." She says nervously.

"He spit in my face and shattered my window. I think I can handle a few nasty comments." I say.

"Well, he said you were gay, not that there's anything wrong with that, but he just really doesn't like being touched. But your his master and I know-"

"Mariah" I interrupt.

"Mariah, I understand. Is there anything else? I'm asking because I don't want to make him uncomfortable. I think of humans more like... Pets. Pets can range from cattle or other live stock, to dogs who are part of the family. Humans have feelings and feel pain, and I hate that everyone just ignores that." I say, earning a smile from Mariah.

"If we're kept together, he won't be as much of a pain in the ass, and I can usually calm him down. But it's not okay he's acting like you don't have feelings either. And if you don't mind, please don't kill him. It's also kinda what he wants, but he's just really scared because last time we were with vampires-" she suddenly stops talking.

"What is it?" I ask.

"A gang of vampires found him when he was 8. They made him watch as they drank his parents blood and ate them. And the second time he was with vampires, his brother died of abuse and lack of food. So it's not you that he hates, just your kind." She says quietly, as if to make sure Alex can't hear her.

"Oh... Well I see why he acted the way he did. Not all vampires are like that." I say. I feel awkward, like being a vampire is terrible instead of a human.

"Yea... He's really really scared. But he should calm down. But you seem very nice. I hope he doesn't test your patience too much and end up dead or sold." She says, running her hand over his.

"I'll make sure you guys are together as much as possible, but at night you'll have to stay with my sister, Sloan. And he'll have to stay with me." I say.

"Thank you. That's very very kind of you, sir. Is she the red headed girl he thought was human?" She asks.

"Yea, that's her. You'll like her." I laugh.

"I bet she's dying to meet you. You'll be more of a friend then a pet, she gets pretty lonely as well. C'mon." I say, standing up. Mariah shakes Alex awake.

"Go ahead and take a shower, Alex. I'm taking Mariah to meet Sloan."

"Don't call me Alex." He snaps, earning a pinch from Mariah.

"Ow! What the hell Mariah, stop." He whines.

"Alright, what should I call you then?" I ask. Sometimes, I really wish we had dogs instead of humans.

"Nothing." He says, rubbing his arm where Mariah pinched him.

"Alexander. Alex is his nick name. But it's nice of you to even acknowledge he has a name." Mariah says, glaring at Alex. He just gives her a look back.

"Jesus, you are difficult. Now c'mon. Alexander, shower. Now." I say, loosing patience.

"Do you know what would happen if you acted like that to any other monster? They'd torture you. Even a human would kill you. I'm trying to keep you alive, just behave." Mariah loudly whispers to Alexander.

"Dead is better than serving a blood sucker." Alexander says, a little louder. I don't want them knowing how well I can hear, so I pretend to not hear Mariah.

"I heard that, Alexander."

"Good, it's true. And don't say my name." Alexander snaps.

I spin around causing Mariah to jump back, but Alexander just says put, like the dumb little human he is.

"I have had enough. I call you what I want, I do what I want, and you don't get to have an opinion. I will not have a human bossing me around anymore." I yell. He just gives me a look that says 'are you done yet?'


"I am dead fucking serious. Do it again and I will no longer has any mercy. I suggest you do as I say, LEX." I yell. He cringes at the name, and the tight tough expression on his face drops, and he looks like he's about to cry.

"Yes, master." He says quietly. I start to feel bad, but I've been kind enough. Most would be torturing him right now. There are evil vampires, and nice vampires. Evil humans, and nice humans. He needs to realize that.

I continue to walk forward, noticing that Mariah and Alex were no longer talking.

I stop at my room, and grab a pair of tight black skinny jeans, the type the slaves wear.

"Shower. Then put these on and get ready for bed." I say. He nods and walks in the room.

"Calling him Lex was a bad idea I'm guessing?" I ask. She hesitates before answering.

"That's what his brother called him. He doesn't even like me calling him that, so... Ummm... A vampire calling him that will probably make him cry." She says. I feel awful now. I'll have to apologize when I get back to the room.

"But at least he's listening." She adds. I just nod.

"I'm sorry, I'm talking to much." She adds.

"No, you are allowed to speak here. Speak, but not argue or yell." I say.

"Should I call you sir or master or my lord or another title?" She asks. I would have laughed if I didn't feel so bad about being harsh to Alex.

"It's not really important to me as long as you are respectful, but If other people are around other than myself and Alexander, my lord or sir will work." I say.


When we reach the bottom of the stairs, Sloan runs towards us, before hugging Mariah. She looks a little scared, and probably unsure if she should hug her back.

"Mariah, this is my sister, Sloan. She's human right now, but not for long." I say. Mariah gives a small hello.

"C'mon! I wanna show you my room, Mariah! Follow me!" Sloan says, bouncing up and down before running to her room, pulling Mariah by her wrist.

"Oh, thank you so much, Jack! We're gonna have so much fun!!" She squeals, running back and hugging me. I laugh, hugging her back.

"Have fun you two!" I call out.

"We will!" I hear Sloan yell, laughing. I sigh and head back up stairs, thinking of what to say to Alexander. I open the bedroom door and see that the mirror is smashed.

"Oh c'mon!" I groan. I knock on the bathroom door, but don't hear a reply.

"I'm his owner. I'm lucky I let him bathe." I tell myself, before opening to door to find Alex in slumped over the bathtub, with a puddle of blood all over the floor.
