Pets, not Slaves

Escape The War Before It Comes

I run my fingers over the side of his face, pushing his hair back.
“Good morning, Princess.”

He moves away from my had, his groan nearly inaudible.
“Alex, I’m going to be late for a very important meeting. Let’s go.”

He still refuses to move.

I sigh and yank on his arm. “Alex, I’m not joking. Get up right now.” My tone is irritated and harsh, yet he still doesn’t listen. Instead he asks “why”

“Because if I leave you alone you’ll kill yourself. Now get up. I’m not joking.” I snap. He doesn’t move an inch. I sigh and leave the room. Maybe some breakfast would help.

I finally have the energy to get out of bed. My mind is clouded both from sleepiness and thoughts of Mariah. I have so much guilt. The person most dear to me dies and what do I do? Find a fucking vampire to replace her. I’m disgusting.

As I’m walking down the stairs a large bang sounds, followed by yelling. I cover my ears at the loud sound.
I run down the stairs to see a mob of people outside the front door, all with angry expressions plastered on their faces.

“Alex, go back upstairs. I’ll deal with this.”

I nod and head back up the stairs, but stay at the top watching the action.

Someone throws something. The door shatters and the rainbow fish woman walks forward. I think her name is Mila.

“Where is the wealth you promised? The slaves?” She asks. Her voice sounds so alluring that I feel dizzy. Apparently humans are resistant to her enticing voice, as Jack told me. I can’t imagine how powerful her voice would be to those who are susceptible to her powers.

“I’m working on it.”

Jack’s calm voice distracts me from my thoughts. He stands tall, hands on his hips showing false confidence.

“No your not. You’re going to have everything prepared for both Crowley and myself in the next twenty-four hours. So hurry up, I don’t want vampire blood on my hands.”

She turns around and walks out the door, leaving Jack standing there appalled at her actions.

She sticks her head through the door again, and malicious grin on her face.

“Oh, and Jack.” I hear her alluring voice sing.

“Ignore the trash”

Tons of bottles, mud, garbage, clothes, anything you can imagine is suddenly in the hands of the creatures outside the door. The pelt Jack with all the shit in their hands, leaving him a disgusting mess. I hear an awful bone snapping sound; his fangs coming out.

“THAT IS ENOUGH!!!”

I cover my ears in surprise. Angry Jack is a scary Jack, and I would not want to get on his bad side, even more than I probably am at the moment. The creatures leave, walking back off the yard. As soon as they’re gone, I run down the stairs two at a time.

“Are you okay?” I ask, running to his side. After the words leave my lips I realize they’re really emotional sounding; way to fuck up, Alex.

“Fine” he mumbles.

“You sure?” I ask. He mumbles a reply.

“Why wont you look at me then?” I ask. He sighs, turning and facing me. His cheek has blood dripping down it, he has mud in his hair, and his suit is ruined. Mud and foam from his fangs drip down his chin. His sharp yellowish fangs curve out of his mouth, widening his jaw. He looks at me only for a moment before starting to walk away.

“Jack, wait!” I yell, running to catch up with him. I grab his arm and pull him so he’s facing me. He wipes his chin with his other hand, not looking me in the eye.

“C’mon you’re gross.” I say, tugging him towards the stairs. He just stays in place.

“Jack, what are you doing? Why won’t you look at me?” I ask. He sighs and turns towards me again. I find my eyes moving towards his fangs.

“That is why! Stop staring!” He growls. I let go of his arm and take a step back.
“Sorry” we both whisper at the same time. I sigh and step in front of him, this time looking at his eyes.

“Sorry, I’m just not used to seeing them. I’ve only gotten glimpses of them before they bit into me.” I whisper. I shiver at the thought of my previous owners; the cruelty of their touch, the sharp pain of their fangs. Visions of my brother, my mother, my father being torn apart by vampires. Their flesh being consumed by those horrid, ugly, malicious grins.

Jack’s voice snaps me out of my thoughts. “Alex, are you okay?” he asks. I nod, not exactly sure what he means.

“You’re crying.” He mumbles, pushing my hair out of my face. His fangs are close. Too close. I take a step back away from him.

“Sorry” he mumbles, walking past me towards the large wooden staircase. I grab his wrist again but he pulls away.

“Jack, please don’t ignore me.”

He stops, turning around and sighing, arms crossed in an impatient position. I stand there, mouth open, unsure what to say. He waits for me to speak but I can’t. The words are stuck in my throat and my mind is empty.

“I need to shower. Tell Sloan to pack up her personal belongings. We’re escaping the war before it comes.”
