The Break Up
ALEX'S POV
'Bro, where's your chick?' exclaimed Ross as he approached me with Matt and Dylan at his sides.
'Cheer practice,' I said, fist bumping them all.
'Shame you don't get to watch!' he joked, nudging me on the shoulder.
'Tell me about it, dude!'
I continued down the hall with the three boys and explained the movie I seen the previous night. We exited the school building and over to the PE block for football.
Changing into our kit, we went out on the pitch and fooled around whilst waiting for coach to come.
JACK'S POV
My attention was caught my a group of boys coming out off the block. Alex was there. I watched them discretely, my eyes focused on him. They made their way to the field and began to toss the ball back and fourth.
I always wanted to join the team but I never had the guts. I wasn't musceley or particularly tanned like those boys, I didn't fit in.
ALEX'S POV
I examined my surroundings; the stands were scattered with people, pupils were pouring out the main bulding and the grass out the front of the school was crowded by people saying their farewells.
'So, have you and Katie..?' asked Dylan, wriggling his eyebrows.
'Dude,' I blushed slightly. What he was emplying was far too personal a question. I mean we hadn't, and if most people were me they would've by now, but I.. I just didn't want to.
'Oh, he has,' added Matt, 'was she good?'
'Fuck off, dude!' I sent the ball hurtling towards Matt's stomach, winding him a little.
With that, coach came. He laughed briefly at Matt before putting in groups to practice. Everytime he blew the whistle, we sprinted towards the end of the field as fast as our feet could carry us. Then, when he whistled again, we came back as fast as we could. This went on for a while before we were able to play an actual game.
Training ended and as soon as I stepped off the pitch my sweaty body was greeted by Katie's. When we hugged, there was no spark anymore. I didn't understand. I squeezed her tighter, desperately searching for it. Nothing.
The next day was the same. We kissed before our first class and I couldn't find that rush, the butterflies that send your mind in a whirl along with our stomach. I figured I had no feelings for her anymore, that was the only explanation. That night, I proceeded to break up with her. It was messy, very messy.
'Look, Katie, I- I think we should take a break.' only the small crackling of the phone broke the silence.
'Alex! What the fuck? You know what, I don't need you. I've got plenty of boys falling for me. You're a piece of shit anyway, we haven't even... Yea, this is for the best. Fuck you.' and she hung up, leaving a full speech in my head that I had carefully thought out before calling. She was right though, it was for the best.
I got off the bus the next morning and was instantly shot dirty looks from various individuals. As I made my way to my locker the comments carried on. Some girls walked passed me and mouthed insults, other winked and tried their best to catch my attention. I was uninterested.
JACK'S POV
'Hi,' whispered a soft voice. I spun round to see little Maggie looking up at me. She was my closest friend and even then, we weren't that close.
'Alex and Katie are no more, he broke it off.' she said, unaware of the fact I had small crush on Alex. Infact, she was unaware of the fact I was gay at all. In an attempt to hide my true sexual orientation, I replied; 'Oh, a single Katie, hm?'
She simply laughed before rambling on about some project she was doing, I zoned out completely. Alex was single? I wonder why he broke up with her? I knew it wasn't healthy thinking like this, but I couldn't resist.
'Jack, listen to me! The project..' she continued, I refocused my mind on her rather boring topic of conversation. I had to though, falling Alex was not an option.
