ALEX'S POV

'Babe!' shouted Katie, I hated it when she called me that. I turned and my lips met hers in a flash.

'Hey,' I mumbled back through the kiss.

'So, we still on for the movie tonight?' I nodded in reply, smiling a little before she stole another taste of my lips.

JACK'S POV

I put on my black work polo shirt and stood unimpressed at the reflection in the mirror. My black skinny jeans clung tightly to my legs and the polo shirt was far too big. I flicked my hair up once again, for the threat of gravity flopping it to one side was ever present. Still not satisfied, I sighed deeply before leaving the house and making my way to work.

Once settled, I put my elbows on the counter and rested my head in my hands. I watched the entrance as the bodies began to pile in, soon having to move from my position to serve people popcorn and so on. I looked up and noticed a boy walk in the doors with his girlfriend. I knew the faces from school, everyone in Nairn High knew them. They purchased their ticket and before I knew it I was face to face with Alex, his gorgeous brown eyes looking at me.

'Dude?' he snapped.

'Sorry, what would you like?'

'A large popcorn and two lemonades.' Katie tickled him as he ordered, her bangles clattering loudly.

I tried to refrain from looking as though I wished I was her as I gave them the food and drinks, but I doubt it was any use. I knew he wasn't gay, I knew he didn't know my name, I knew there was no chance. I just had to snap out of it and come to terms with the fact that I was never going to get him.

I handed Katie the change with a forced smile and signalled the next customers to come forward, glancing round to watch him walk away.

ALEX'S POV

When we went to the counter, the employee looked like he was furious. At first, his eyes were warm and gentle and then Katie tickled me and suddenly he turned, the kindness gone and the hatred present. He had dark brown hair styled a bit like mine, however his was spiking upwards. I didn't know why, but I wanted to order more just so I could look at him for longer. His smile - though obviously fake - was, beautiful? You're not gay, I told myself. You're dating the hottest girl in school, snap out of it.

The movie started and all I could think about was that guy. His face was so familiar and inviting despite the fact he seemed like he wanted to punch us. In confusion, I decided it would be best to go back and buy something else, essentially buying more time with him. What the fuck was I doing?

'Um, can I have a..' I stood with one finger tapping my lips, searching for something to buy. 'Just a, um, packet of crisps.'

'Sure,' he came across far happier this time round, smiling sincerely as he bended down to grab the packet.

'60p' he grinned, rubbing the back of his neck with his left hand. I handed over the money with a little giggle, a little giggle? Do you, the straight guy, have a crush? Get a grip, Alex.

I grabbed the packet from the counter and quickly made my way back into the theatre, heart pounding furiously. I didn't understand what was wrong with me. I tried to shake it off and kissed Katie as I returned before sharing my crisps with her as we enjoyed the movie.
