Welcome To My Life

"You can come with me."
I give the guard in the doorway of my cell a quizzical look. Usually they would only come to tell me I have visitors but I have a feeling this is about something else.
"Take your stuff with you," the guard adds as I get up.
I didn't have a lot of stuff here. I grabbed my notebook and pen and followed her out of my cell. Are they moving me to another cell? Instead, we leave the cell area.

"The charges against you have been dropped," the guards explains. "You're free to go."
"Seriously?" I ask confused. I know Alex promised me to get it done but I wasn't expecting much.
"Yeah. You can get your things over there and then you're good to leave," she says, smiling lightly. The first time I've actually seen a guard smile while I was in here.

I go over to the counter to get my things, change into my own clothes and before I fully realize it I'm standing on the parking lot. I get out my phone. Thankfully I turned it off before handing it in so my battery hadn't died. I scroll through my contacts for Alex and dial his number.

Alex's POV
It's Friday afternoon and I'm sitting in my room doing homework. I always try to do my homework on Friday so that I can do fun things all weekend. Not that I feel like doing fun things this weekend but it's kind of a habit.

My algebra homework is interrupted by my phone ringing. From the corner of my eye I look at the screen and much to my surprise, it says 'Liz'. I grab and answer it so quickly I almost drop my phone.

"Liz?" I ask hopeful.
"What did you do?" I hear her voice say.
"What do you mean?" I ask confused.
"The charges have been dropped," she explains.
"Really? I may have threatened Jack but I didn't think it'd work," I answer, leaving out the part about telling Jack he'd better drop charges if he still wanted a chance with Jenna.

"Well, it did. So, are you busy?" Liz asks.
"Doing homework, why?" I say.
"Well, Jack may have dropped the charges but I guess he could not be bothered to pick me up and I honestly don't know how to get home from here so walking isn't exactly an option either,"
"It's also a 30 minute walk," I add, while getting up and going downstairs.

"But did you want to ask me something?" I tease her.
"Yes you dork, can you come pick me up?" she asks impatiently.
"Well, let me think about that," I answer while grabbing my car keys and heading for my car. "I don't know, why would I?"
I start my car.
"You do realize I can hear you car start?" Liz asks.
"Dammit. I'll be there in 10," I admit.
"Thank you," Liz replies before hanging up.

For a moment I hesitate to call Jenna and ask her to come, but to be honest I would like to spend some time with just Liz. I decide not to. I would have to drop Liz off at Jenna's anyway so I told myself it was okay to go pick her up by myself.

10 minutes later I drive onto the prison's parking lot. I notice Liz sitting on the sidewalk near the entrance. I drive over there and park my car. Liz waits for me to get out, so I do and walk up to her. We look at each other for a couple of seconds before I wrap my arms around her and she buries her face in my chest. I gently stroke her hair. We just stand there like that for a while, not saying a word, until Liz takes a step back.

"Thank you," she says. "For getting me out of there. Whatever you did convinced Jack."
"Don't mention it. How are you feeling?"
"A lot better than I did an hour ago," she replies, smiling.
I look at her beautiful smile and I just can't help myself. I lean in to kiss her. Thankfully she doesn't pull away and our lips touch gently.

"I've been wanting to do that so bad," she says after we break away, smiling.
"Yeah, I know I'm irresistible," I nod.
"You just became a little less irresistible," she jokes, ruffling my hair, messing it up. "Arrogance doesn't suit you."
"Good to know. Messy hair doesn't suit me either," I say, trying to fix my hair. "So, you want to get out of here?"
"You have no idea."

We both get into the car and I drive off.
"So where are we going?" Liz asks.
"You don't want to head over to Jenna's straight?" I ask her.
"I don't know, you got a better idea?" She gives me a flirtatious smile and I feel it all the way down to my stomach.

"I..." I start, not sure what I want to say.
"Oh, I love this song!" Liz suddenly exclaims, turning up the volume and singing along to 5 Seconds Of Summer's Long Way Home. I can't help but laugh at her enthusiasm. Liz looks at me laughing and starts to blush.
"Sorry, I just haven't exactly heard music in days..." she mutters.
"Oh, don't stop on my account," I say quickly. "I'm just glad to see you like this."
Liz smiles and continues singing along.

"How about we take the long way home?" Liz jokes after the song ends and she turns the radio down.
"I see what you did there," I reply grinning. "So how about we go and get something to eat? You can't have had a lot of nice food in jail."
"Yes, please!" Liz replies.

"Where do you wanna go?"
"IHOP," Liz replies.
"Do you eat anything else, other than pancakes?" I ask laughing.
"Not really. Oh, pizza. I eat pizza as well. And fries sometimes," she replies.
"Such a healthy lifestyle," I joke.
"I try," Liz nods.
"Okay, IHOP it is. Also, I didn't let Jenna know you're out yet, I don't know if you want to call her?" I say.

"I was kind of surprised you didn't show up together," Liz says, causing me to blush.
"I may or may not have wanted to be alone with you," I mutter.
Liz grins. "I figured, I just wanted to hear you say it."
"You evil woman," I say shaking my head.
"I'll text her," Liz says pulling out her phone as I drive onto the IHOP parking lot.

So, think I'm gonna introduce a new character in the next chapter so look forward to that (or not, I don't know, but I do look forward to it!)
