Welcome To My Life

The next morning came way too soon. I was woken up by the sun creeping through the living room windows. My iPhone was laying on the coffee table so I pressed the home button to see the time. 6 AM. Jenna was still asleep on the other couch. I knew her parents weren't home as they were in Australia for a couple of weeks, visiting family. Jenna wanted to come with but her parents didn't want her skipping school.

I quietly got up, making sure I didn't wake Jenna, and headed for the unpacked boxes in the hallway. I started opening them until I found the one that had my clothes in it. I pulled out a pair of black skinny jeans and a Pierce The Veil crewneck and a pair of socks. I went upstairs and got changed in the bathroom. I did my hair and make-up - using Jenna's make-up as I didn't feel like going downstairs again to get mine. I was sure she didn't mind.

When I got back downstairs, Jenna was still asleep. I decided to make us breakfast, and started going through the fridge and cupboards in the kitchen to find what I could use. I decided to make eggs.

"Good morning to you too" I heard, while I was laying the table.
I turned around to find Jenna, who clearly just woke up, in the doorway.
"Morning" I replied.
"How long have you been up?" she asked.
"About half an hour" I replied.

"I didn't really take you for a morning person" Jenna joked.
"Trust me, I'm not. But I was awake and the sun was shining" I shrugged. "I just... Felt like getting up for a change, I guess."
"Well, carpe diem, right? I'm gonna get ready, I'll be down for breakfast as soon as I can" Jenna said, turning around and going upstairs.

I sat down at the kitchen table with my plate, but decided to wait for Jenna. Carpe diem? Seize the day... It had never exactly been my motto, but definitely not today. Today I would have to face Jack again and it didn't take a genius to know he would be pissed. There was a small chance I actually scared him off and he would leave me alone. There was a bigger chance though, that he'd want revenge.

"What are you thinking of?" Jenna asked, walking into the kitchen.
"How much today is going to suck" I replied.
"Because you have to face Jack again?" she asked, and I nodded in reply.
"Maybe he'll leave you alone because he's afraid you'll beat him up again?" Jenna suggested.
I gave her a look.
"Yeah, you're right, probably not" Jenna muttered. "But you know, he can only do so much at school. His parents would kill him if he got expelled or suspended."
"I guess that's true" I admitted.

After that we both ate our eggs in silence. When we were both finished, Jenna cleaned the table and I went to find my backpack in the boxes. When we were both ready to leave for school, we got in the car. We didn't talk much, except for a bit of small talk. I didn't mind it, I wasn't a morning person after all. Jenna parked her car in the parking lot and I wanted to get out, but she grabbed my arm, so I gave her a quizzical look.

"Don't let him get to you, okay? He's not worth it" she said.
I nodded. "I'll try"
Jenna nodded in reply and she let go of my arm. We both left the car and went inside the building.

I immediately noticed Jack, Zack and Rian standing down the hall. Alex was nowhere to be seen though. I halted, but we had to walk past them to get to our lockers.
"Keep walking" Jenna said quietly. "Don't give him the pleasure of knowing you're scared."
I did as I was told, avoiding Jack's look, even though I could feel his eyes burn in the side of my head. We got to our lockers and got the books we needed for first period.

"Let's just go to the classroom already" Jenna suggested as she reappeared next to me while I closed my locker. I nodded in agreement.

We went upstairs to our classroom and took our seats. We were the first people in the room, but well, it beats being around Jack. Thankfully he wasn't in this class. Rian was, but I wasn't exactly scared of him as he and Zack didn't seem to want to have anything to do with all of this, nor did they seem like a violent type. Thank god, because I definitely could not take on Zack. The school bell rang and soon the rest of our class appeared and took their seats. Rian was clearly avoiding looking at me when he entered the class room, but I didn't exactly care. It wasn't like he was my friend anyway.

What I did care about, was Alex's absence. He was supposed to be in this class - at least, I thought he was -, but was still nowhere to be seen.
"Alex is in this class, right?" I asked Jenna.
"He should be. I wouldn't worry about it though, he's late all the time" she said.
I told myself not to worry about it, Jenna was probably right. When we were 45 minutes into the class, I texted Alex where he was, but he hadn't replied by the time the class was over.

I followed Jenna out of the classroom.
"He still hasn't replied" I told her, as I knew she saw me texting Alex.
"Don't worry, he's probably still asleep" Jenna assured me.
"Yes, but what if there's something wrong?" I asked her.
"Why would there be something-..." Jenna started, but she was interrupted by someone who ran into her.

"Watch where you're going, dyke!" the person yelled, and I immediately recognized the voice.
All color drained from Jenna's face, while Jack smiled proudly and continued to walk in the direction he had been going.

"Hey asswipe!" I yelled, quickly catching up with Jack.
He stopped and turned around. "What did you call me?" he groaned.
"Asswipe. Because that's what you are. Why did you do that?" I sneered.
"Well, she ran into me" he shrugged.
"You ran into her, but you know damn well that's not what I mean" I replied.

"Well, she's gay, isn't she?" Jack said laughing.
"You think that's funny?" I spat, and continued to yell. "You think it's fucking funny to out her in front of the whole FUCKING school?"
Jack shrugged carelessly. "Yeah, kind of"

"How about I finish what I started doing to that face of yours? Would you think that's funny?" I exclaimed, pointing at his broken nose and black eye.
"Bring it on" he dared.
"As you wish" I replied, lifting my arm to throw a punch.

"Stop, stop stop" Alex suddenly appeared, pushing me and Jack away from each other.
"You," Alex turned to me. "Do you wanna get suspended?"
"And you," Alex turned to Jack. "You should know better than to set her off like that! Now walk away."

Jack shot Alex one angry look, turned around and walked away, followed by Zack and Rian, who had just been watching the entire time.
Alex grabbed my arm and dragged me away from the group of people who were hoping to watch me and Jack fight, to a quiet hallway. I yanked my arm from his tight grip. By then Jenna had caught up with us.

"This has got to stop, Liz" Alex sighed. "Enough is enough".
"Where were you?" I asked him.
"I overslept. You can't keep fighting Jack at school, you might get expelled and then what are you gonna do?" Alex asked.
"I haven't fought him yet. On school grounds" I sneered.
"Yeah, only because I keep interfering" Alex replied. "Don't get all mad at me, Liz, I'm just trying to help."
I sighed. "I know, but..."

"Did you tell Jack I'm bi?" Jenna asked Alex.
"Uhm... I might have mentioned it, why?" Alex asked.
"Well, that's fucking great. I thought I could trust you" she sneered.
"I didn't know he wasn't allowed to know, sorry!" Alex said, genuinely seeming sorry.
"Yeah whatever" Jenna said shaking her head, before she stormed off.

Alex seemed confused and I figured he didn't know what set me off earlier.
"Jack pretty much outed her in front of the entire school" I explained.
"Seriously?" Alex asked. "Damn, I didn't expect him to do anything with that information.. I just thought it might get him off Jenna's back to know she had feelings for a girl..."
"She'll come around" I said softly, shooting him a smile, which he returned.

"So how are you?" he asked.
"I'm okay, I guess. I was hoping to stay away from Jack all day to avoid this kind of thing but I wasn't so lucky" I answered. "What about you, sleepyhead?"
"I'm still tired" he whined. "But other than that, I'm good."
"Good" I replied.

"So, now that Jenna isn't here..." Alex said suggestively.
I looked around us. The hallway was completely empty.
"Yeah, what?" I asked him teasingly.
Alex leaned in and I did the same until our lips collided into a gentle kiss. After a few seconds, I broke away, because I didn't want Jack or any of his friends to catch us, because I knew if that happened I wouldn't be so lucky.

Alex was smiling from ear to ear. "We should do that again sometime."
"We can, actually" I replied. "I told Jenna."
"What did she say?" Alex asked.
"She apologized for the not-very-nice-things she said about you and said that you're a good guy and that she was happy for me" I said.

"I have a feeling my friends would not respond like that" Alex said wryly.
"You think?" I answered sarcastically.
"Yes, so can we just keep this between us - well and Jenna then - for a little while?" Alex asked carefully.
I nodded. "Yeah, okay."
"Thank you" he said. "We should probably be getting to class now."
I nodded, and we headed for the classroom we had our second period in.
