Welcome To My Life

I told myself I’d apologize to Alex when the class was over. I had been too mean to him and he definitely did not deserve that. I didn’t get the chance though. As soon as the bell rang, Alex got up and left the classroom. I sighed. Guess I really screwed up.

I decided to go find Jenna for lunch break. I hoped she wasn’t still annoyed with me after all my questions, because if she was I’d probably be eating alone. I had had my fair share of that and didn’t care for more of it.

I soon noticed Jenna at her locker and went to greet her. Thankfully she didn’t seem mad or annoyed.

“Hey” she said when I walked up to her.
“Hey, at least you’re not pissed at me” I said relieved.
“Why, because you were being annoying in class? Please, it’ll take more to piss me off” Jenna winked.

“Hey cousin” I suddenly heard a voice say behind me.
I turned around to face who turned out to be Jack, surprisingly.
“What?” I asked him.
“What did you say to Alex?” he asked.
“Nothing” I replied, way too quickly, causing both Jack and Jenna to give me a quizzical look. “Why you asking?”

“Because he refused to come over here. Usually he would jump on any opportunity to be near you, since you know, he’s into you and all that” Jack replied.
“Alex is not into me!” I said, a little louder than I had plant to.
“That’s cute” Jenna replied. “Like hell he isn’t.”

“See, even Jenna agrees with me, that means I must be right!” Jack said.
“Anyway, why did you come over here?” I quickly changed the subject.

I didn’t feel like talking about the feelings Alex did or did not have for me as it would only make me feel more guilty for snapping at him earlier.

“Oh yeah, I wanted to ask you guys if you wanted to go out tonight” Jack said.
“Go out as in…?” I asked.
“I don’t know, go to some club, a movie, a bar, I don’t know” Jack shrugged.
“Are you actually asking us to go out with you? This isn’t a trap?” I asked suspiciously.
“I promise it’s not a trap. I just thought it might be nice for you to get to now some people in Baltimore” Jack explained.

“What happened to you not wanting me anywhere near your friends?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I might have overreacted a little. You’re not as much of a loser as I thought you were” Jack shrugged.
“Why thanks Jack” I groaned.

“So are you coming?” he asked.
“Who else is coming?” I asked in reply.
“Alex, Zack, Rian…. That’s it really” he replied.

“I don’t think Alex would want me there right now” I muttered.
“See, you did say something to him!” Jack exclaimed.
“Fine, I’ll come with you” I said quickly to keep Jack from asking more questions.

“What about you?” Jack asked, turning to Jenna, who furrowed her eyebrows.
“You’re serious?” she asked him. “You hate me, Jack.”
“I don’t hate you…” Jack said, his face turning slightly red.
“Well, you could’ve fooled me” Jenna replied stiffly.

Jack shot me a look that seemed somewhat desperate.
“Oh come on Jen, it’ll be fun” I tried. “If Jack’s being a jerk I promise we’ll leave.”
“Hey!” Jack exclaimed offended.
“Okay fine, I’ll come” Jenna sighed.
“Cool. I should probably be getting back to Alex” he muttered and he turned on his heels and walked away.

“He is up to something” Jenna said, turning to face me, after Jack left.
“Maybe he’s just trying to be nice…” I tried.
“I’m sure he is” Jenna huffed. “Once a jerk, always a jerk.”

“Alex told me what happened between you two…” I said quietly.
“Oh, did he now? What makes you think he knows everything?” Jenna asked, clearly offended.
“I don’t, but neither of you tell me anything so I had to get answers from someone” I shrugged.
Jenna sighed. “Okay, we’re not gonna fight over Jack, even though I find it sort of disturbing you’re so interested in my love life. Let’s go have lunch.”

She turned around and headed for the cafeteria and I followed her. We sat down on one of the very few empty tables after we got our lunch.

“You seriously think Alex is not in love with you?” Jenna asked me after we sat down.
“In love with me? He doesn’t know me well enough to be in love with me. He doesn’t exactly know anything about me” I said quickly.
“No, but that’s about to change tonight. You didn’t answer the question though.” Jenna replied.
“No, I don’t think he is. Why would he?” I shrugged, taking a bite from my sandwich.
“Don’t be like that” Jenna said, tilting her head with a pitiful look.

“What, I’m just being realistic” I replied. “Don’t look at me like that.”
“You’re not being realistic, you’re blind to reality!” she exclaimed. “Alex is so clearly into you!”
“No he’s not. He’s not even talking to me” I muttered.
“Yeah, why’s that?” Jenna asked curiously.
“I sort of snapped at him in class” I shrugged.
“Why?” Jenna asked.

I sighed. “He said something along the lines of that he’d rather be talking to me than paying attention in class and I told him I’d rather be paying attention.”
Jenna shook her head pitiful. “I can’t believe you don’t see it.”
“Let’s stop talking about this okay?” I begged her.
“Fine, we’ll just see how it goes tonight. You are fixing things with him tonight, for your information.” Jenna stated.

“Why are you coming anyway? You can’t stand Jack” I asked.
“Because you wanted me to” she shrugged. “Although I probably should’ve said no as you’ll be all over Alex halfway through the night anyway.”
“Stop it or I’ll throw my sandwich in your face” I muttered.

“Okay, okay. We’ll see tonight, if I’m right or not” she said mysteriously. “What are you wearing?”
“Uhm… I’ll just pick something from my closet” I shrugged.
“It better be something special if you want to impress Alex” Jenna said.
“Jenna, Jesus Christ, I don’t want to impress Alex!” I groaned.
“Yeah, I bet you don’t” she said winking.

I sighed. She was never gonna believe I didn't have feelings for Alex... I didn't... Right?
