SaraBethGaskarth's Oneshots!

So Long, Soldier

It was a beautiful spring day in Baltimore, Maryland, and I was spending it in my front porch swing with a cup of tea and a cheesy romance novel, wishing that I could have the same kind of romance as the main characters Leah and Derek had. Well, I did, but just not now. Usually, I would be on the balcony on the back side of our house upstairs, which has a beautiful view of the bay, but today I was waiting for something in particular to show up at my doorstep. Or, should I say, someone in particular.

Around about 3 pm, my book ended with Derek cheating on Leah but Leah takes him back and marries him anyway, and I rolled my eyes at her for being so dumb, but at least she was happy with him. I was about to pick up my mug, which was now empty of all pre existing tea, and go back inside the house to wait when I heard the low rumble of what could only be recognized as the sound of a large bus coming down the street. I quickly returned my items to the indoors before running outside just as the large bus with the words "ALL TIME LOW" painted across the side stopped in front of the driveway and the door slid open to reveal my boyfriend of almost five years.

Jack dropped his bags in the driveway and waved goodbye to the bus driver and gave Alex a quick joking peck on the cheek before running up to me and spinning me around in circles. "Brittney! I missed you so much you have no idea," he told me, hoisting my body up over his shoulder and leaving his bags back in the driveway as he carried me inside the house. We lived in a very secluded area where the few neighbors we do have were very close with us, so we knew that his bags were safe outside for the time-being. Jack closed the door with his foot, still carrying me, and I started to kick and pound on his back. "Let me down!" I laughed, trying to escape from his grasp without falling. "Brittney, I haven't seen you in over three months," Jack reminded me, "just let me have my fun!"

Eventually, after running all around the house with me on his shoulder just to annoy me, I guess he started to get tired of lifting me around and he put me back to my regular upright position. Before I had a chance to regain my bearings, Jack had already set his hands low on my hips and pulled me in to smash his lips against mine. It was a sweet kiss, but certainly not a slow one. It was fast-paced and needy; making up for almost four months of lost time.

Eventually, my tongue tangled with Jack's as we played a mini-wrestling game, and in the end: he won, slowly guiding me backwards until my back was pressed against the wall and my wrists were pinned on either side of my head. Jack's eyes were turning even darker shade of brown as he finally pulled back for air. "God, I missed you so much. I missed doing this," he smirked, looking down at me as we both gasped for air. "Me too," I whispered. "This house is way too big for just one of us alone."

Now, most of you were probably thinking so this is the part where Jack gets laid, right? Well, actually this is the part where Jack takes my hand and leads me out to the back yard, where we end up having a race to see who can get to our boat faster. I beat him to the boat just in time to untie the rope and turn on the motor. Last summer, Jack and I bought the small boat and he taught me how to drive it, so I slowly sailed out into the bay, leaving Jack behind on the sand.

I smiled at him and he smiled back, and I saw him strip down to just his boxers and run up on the dock before diving into the cold water and resurface about fifteen seconds later. "Shit!" Jack shouted; clearly jumping into the bay in the end of April was a bad idea.

After watching Jack chase after the boat for a few minutes, I decided to turn around and let him on out of guilt. The poor boy had just been on stage almost every night, exhausting himself, and now here I was making him swim around to chase me out at sea.

I watched Jack shake the water out of his skunk hair as he climbed the ladder. "I'm gonna get you," he told me, pulling himself up onto the deck as I started to walk to the other side of the boat about ten feet away. We spent some time chasing each other around before I finally gave up, letting Jack grab my waist from behind and pull my back into his wet chest. "Jack!" I shouted, "You're going to get me all wet!"

"Under different circumstances, I'm sure you wouldn't mind that at all," he whispered in my ear, tightening his grip on my waist. I could feel the heat rise up into my cheeks and see Jack smirking at me in the very corner of my eye. "You are so dirty, Barakat," I told him, wiggling out of his grasp to lightly smack him in the chest. "That I am, but so are you, which is another reason we were meant for each other." Jack smiled, using his usual adorable smile, and I chuckled because it was actually true.

Jack was getting cold pretty soon, so he took the wheel of the boat and we sped back to shore. I grabbed his clothes from the shore and sprinted up to the house as he was tying up the boat, definitely not expecting to see me running away with his clothes when he turned around. "Goddammit, Brittney!" he shouted, chasing after me for the third time tonight. The length of the yard that tired me out and the length of the tall man's legs were definitely a disadvantage for me, though, because before I knew what was happening, Jack had tackled me to the ground to retrieve his black skinny jeans and "BONER" shirt from my hands.

"I love you," Jack said quietly as he helped me up from the ground. "I love you too, you butthead," I winked. The sun was going down by now, and Jack and I ran inside for Jack to change while I grabbed some blankets and food. We made it outside just in time to watch the sun slowly sink under the Atlantic Ocean for the night, Jack's arm wrapped protectively around my shoulders while a large blanket was draped over the two of us to keep us warm.

"Forever and always, Brittney," Jack reminded me, softly brushing his lips against mine and giving me a feeling I could only describe as the same butterflies Jack gave me when we had our first kiss together.
