It's Such A Shame That We Play Strangers

*Jack's P.O.V*

All week, all I could really think about is how I really want to have a conversation with Alex. He has only just come here and he's only been here for a week but I am really starting to feel this connection with him.

He's always willing to talk and I just want to reply but I haven't been game yet, but I've come up with this plan. Every now and then, I sneak off into the forest part next to the school. I can't really walk out the front way so I've cut a hole in the back fence. I was thinking of making Alex come with me. So when we finally get to the riverside of the river, we can sit and we could have a conversation.

As I was walking to my room, I saw Alex walking a little bit in front of me so I picked up my speed and when I was behind, I tapped his shoulder, making him jump and spin around.

'Oh hey Jack. What's up?' Alex said. I just smiled and moved my hand for him to follow me in which he did.

I lead Alex out the back door of the building and when we were met with the fence, I began to move the dumpster.

'Jack? What are you doing?' Alex questioned. I laughed a little than put my hand over my mouth and looked over to Alex. His face was lit up. I just laughed. I haven't done that in such a long time.

'Jack, you laughed. You laughed!' Alex said, sounding very excited. I smiled and finally moved the dumpster enough for us to get through the hole. I crawled through it and began walking, hoping that Alex would follow.

Once I was near the river, I heard Alex running up from behind. I turned my head and looked at him. He smiled up to me and in that moment, I just wanted to hold his hand.

Wait, I haven't known the guy longer than a week and I already like him. No, this can't be happening.

I finally sat down on a fallen tree which had fallen over the river. Alex joined me and smiled to me. I guess it is now or never.

'Hi.' I said, barely audible.

*Alex's P.O.V*

Jack, Jack just spoke. He just said hi. I was so not expecting that, at all. He just said hi. I wonder why the change of mind. Why he decided to talk, oh yeah. I remind him of Tyler.

'Hi.' I replied back. I smiled to him and in that moment, Jack's eyes sparkled brighter than I have seen in the two days I've known him.

'Thank you for coming with me. Thank you for wanting to be my friend.' Jack said. I shook my head and smiled.

'It's okay Jack. Why wouldn't I want to be your friend? You are an awesome guy, even though, you may have just started talking to me. You know, even though we talked through text and on a piece of paper, I still got to know you. And I'm glad, but I don't really understand why you never talked.' I said. Jack tensed up and looked down at the river. He began to swing his legs, making me fell a little uneasy also.

'Alex, I would love to tell you, but now's not the time. We've just started talking. I don't want that to stop.' Jack said, making me frown.

'Okay, you tell me when you are ready. I mean, I've waited a week to hear you talk and finally have. It's exciting. You know. Someone who is your best friend talks to you for the first time in over a year is special.' I said, making Jack's eyes tear up as h looked to me.

'I'm your best friend?' Jack questioned. I nodded my head as Jack smiled. I put my arm around his shoulders ever so slowly, unaware of what Jack was going to do, but when my arm was finally sitting around his shoulders, he just rested his head on my shoulder.

I don't know what I was feeling in this moment, but all I knew was that I liked it.
