There's A Ghost In This Room

All The Questions Left Unanswered

If there's one thing that's cool about being a ghost, it's being able to get into movies for free.
I walked into the theater with Bethany, easily getting past the ticket stub lady.
We sat down in our seats, and Bethany passed me the popcorn while she took off her jacket.
We were sitting and waiting for the movie to start; quite disinterested in the trailers that were playing.
We decided to see some scary movie about dead people and ghosts and all of that. It really doesn't scare us at all, (obviously), but we find it quite humorous. We like to make fun of it afterwards.
The movie started after a moment, and we watched with anticipation, knowing that we had our own funny way of enjoying it.
“Oh yeah, walk back into the bedroom, that's a good idea..” I whispered my sarcastic remark, causing Bethany to try to hold in her giggles.
“Of course that guy died! Applause for you, dude! Smart move!” I continued, making her not able to control her laughter this time.
She was laughing a lot harder than she should have been, and I found that quite hilarious. Everyone was giving her weird looks, seeing as she was just laughing out loud to herself as another character in the movie died.
She soon realized, and looked at me with wide eyes.
“Alex, shut the fuck up! You're making me look like a lunatic!” She whisper yelled at me.
I laughed even harder at that.
“You look so insane right now, holy shit!” I chuckled.
She shot me a death glare, and I raised my hands up in surrender.
“Hey, maybe you are a lunatic. You are talking to your dead best friend, right now.” I joked, causing her face to contort to a frown.
“You're so annoying…” She hissed, and turned her attention back to the screen, with a straight face.
That left me really confused. She didn't seem like she was joking.
Fuck, I pissed her off..
I was always getting on her bad side nowadays.
We watched the last few minutes of the movie in silence, until we got up and exited out of the back door; where no one else was around and couldn't judge the random teenager who seemed to be conversing with herself.
We stood outside in an awkward silence.
She stared down at her feet, and I just stood there; giving her my best innocent face.
“Hey…” I sucked in my lips and lightly poked her in the arm.
She glared up at me, making me feel uneasy.
“Uh..Alex is sorry?” I nervously tried to get at least a little smile out of her, but it didn't work.
“Whatever, Alex. I shouldn't have even gotten mad, it was no big deal.” She shrugged, looking back down at her feet.
“Well..why did you?” I cocked my head at her in confusion, “I was only joking, you know..”
“Yeah, but…I don't know. I just didn't like the attention I was getting..”
I knew that was a lie. We've gone to the movies so many times, she's definitely used to the strange looks, by now.
“That's not it, Beth..” I gave her a knowing look.
She waved me off in denial.
“It's nothing, just…it just sorta reminded me of my dad calling me crazy for it, and..I don't know. I'm being overdramatic, it's fine.” She shook her head at the ground, meanwhile I was feeling super shitty.
God dammit, I am literally awful. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!
“Shit, I'm so sorry, Bethany! I didn't think about that when I said it, I didn't mean-“
“I know, Alex. It's fine…really.” She reassured me, actually looking up and giving me a genuine smile.
I thought her smile was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever witnessed; and it pained me to think that she never shows it when she's at school. Those dumb kids have yet to witness such a perfect smile. They only make her cry instead, and it makes me wanna tear my fucking hair out.
I was seriously thinking about the visibility thing…I was willing to do anything to keep that beautiful smile on her face. Maybe I'll just risk it all. It'll be worth it, for sure.
“Hey..” I reached out and took her hand in mine.
“I'll tell you about me, someday.” I decided that I most definitely would; she deserved to know.
She smiled a little bit at that, and her eyes visibly brightened.
“Really?”
“Yeah. I will.”
“Thank you.” She whispered.
I began to hate all the seriousness, and I grinned at her, before lifting our joined hands and twirling her around.
She burst into giggles, and then leaned into me for a hug.
I wrapped my arms around her, and felt myself warm up with the embrace.
I decided from then on, that I would never let anybody hurt her, ever again.

Notes

Yeah, hey soooo...I will be gone all weekend, and so I can't update for a few days. But in those few days, I will be pre-writing more chapters for this story, and most likely writing a one-shot out of boredom.

This chapter is just a filler, I know it's like really stupid and short. Sorry. Writer's block.
The chapters won't be boring and short forever, don't worry. I'm just building up to the plot of the story.

You guys are the sweetest, thank you so much for reading this omg <3

Comments

This story is soooo good, OMG.
I read it in the time since I left that comment on your other story. If that tells you anything about how much I love it.
I'm bummed to see it's been a while since it's been posted for, though. I really hope you continue this and finish it sometime. Because I would really love to know how everything plays out.
What does the shapeshifter have in store? Are there more of them? Is Ashlynn a shapeshifter? (I kind of hope she is, at least that would give an excuse for her being such a bitchy person, but perhaps not). Will Alex be exposed and have to leave? I really hope that last one isn't true but it's a worry in the back of my mind constantly throughout reading this. :'(
So many questions. So needless to say, I hope my comment inspires you to maybe continue. This story made me very emotional, lol, like when Alex and Bethany were trying to figure out that they loved each other, and then when Alex was with Ashlynn breaking Bethany's heart... it broke MY heart during those chapters, literally, and I'm not sure a story has ever done that to me before... or it's been an awfully long time since it has. I mean, there are stories with the parts that are obvious sob-worthy scenes, but then there's this one where it just came with the heartbreak... maybe that's a normal thing to cry over, idk. But I usually don't, so, in summary, that just made this story all the more amazing.
I really like the plot line, did I mention that? I've read a few other Alex ghost stories but none quite like this. You definitely made it your own.
So I just wanted to leave a comment letting you know I really love what you have of this story, and think you're an amazing writer, once again, like I said with my other comment. I really hope you consider continuing this soon. Want to know how it all ends up playing out, even if it's heartbreaking, answers are answers.
I'll be here if you do continue. :)
