I Just Want A Place In Your Heart Like You Have A Place In Mine

Chapter II

I found myself sitting myself down in 8th period which thankfully happens to be the last period of the day. I waited patiently in my seat in the back of the room in the corner waiting for the bell to ring. Most kids were already in their seats but there was an empty seat next to me and another seat in the front of the room. I always sit alone, I’m used to it. It doesn't bother me anymore.

I pulled my out my notebook while the bell rang. The teacher walked to the front of the room and started calling out our names. I wonder where Alex is? He is in this period with me. I wonder if he is okay? I look up from my notebook and see the Devil and his friend walk through the door like they’re not 10 minutes late.

“Colton, Alex, why are you late?” The teacher snapped from her desk in the front of the room. The two boys shrugged while Colton sat in the front as Alex made his way to the back next to me. Oh shit, he is sitting next to me!

Stay calm, stay calm. I looked down at my notebook and out of the corner of my eye I seen Alex crossing his arms and looking up at the ceiling huffing.

“Hey, um Alex?” I whispered to Alex surprisingly. He just turned his head to look at me and then glared.
“Why the fuck are you talking to me fag, I’m not going on a date with you.” Alex snapped before I could even back myself up.
“Wait, what?” I asked. “I was just seeing if you had a spare pencil.”
“Just cause you are Evan’s friend doesn't mean you can talk to me.” Alex huffed before getting out of his seat and walking out of the room. The teacher was yelling his name but that didn't stop him. He slammed the door and he was gone.

What the hell was that about? I sighed and got a pencil from the teacher and continued to write random science notes in my notebook as I waited for this wretched day to be over with.

When the period was over with Alex still didn't come back. I wonder what I said wrong? The final bell rang and I walked out of the class to my locker. I grabbed all of my books and shoved them in my bag. I walked out of the school and seen Sally and Evan sitting by a tree waiting for me with smiles.

I couldn't have asked for better friends. Of course we get into fights, just like all friends. But something about them made them special to me. I didn't know what it was but something always about them made me feel good about myself. Maybe that’s what friends do? They never let you feel down and they are always there when you need them to punch a jerk when you want them to. Even though Sally is a girl she punches very hard. Like it’s not even funny, she gave me a bruise once.

“So everyone clear to hang out tonight?” Evan asked as I walked up to the pair who were now standing.
“Yeah.” Sally said.
“Good, Jack how about you?”
“I have to go home first my Dad said but then I can come over.” I said not really paying attention to the two. Why did Alex have to be so mean? I just want to mean something to him but I know I never will..
“Jack, what’s wrong?” I heard Sally say snapping me out of my thoughts.
“Nothing.” I mumbled fixing my backpack strap over my shoulder.
“Jack, it’s not nice to lie to us.” Evan joked with a chuckled nudging my shoulder.
“Not even a smile.” Evan whispered. I just rolled my eyes and continued walking as the two questioned me.
“Jack please tell us.” Evan begged.
“Let me guess. Alex.” Sally gritted through her teeth looking at me.
“Sally!” Evan shouted slapping her arm.
“What? He knows that Alex is a fucking dick and will never love him.” Sally said harshly.
“Thanks for telling me Sal.” I whispered and walked away from both of them and made my way to my house.

Sally’s right. I’ll never have a chance with Alex. Alex is straight and I’m a dude. Why can’t I just be a girl? Maybe he would like me then. Actually, probably not. I would probably make an ugly girl.

I arrived at my house and walked up the steps and into the house. Dad was sitting on the couch watching some T.V. when I walked in.

“Hi Dad.” I said as I dropped my bag on the floor and sat down on a chair.
“Hi Son, how was school?” Dad said looking at me quickly but then looking back at the screen.
“Just another damned day. How’s Mom?” I asked, he sighed and turned off the T.V.
“She’s doing okay. I’m going to stay with her tonight so you can invite Evan or Sally over or whatever you wanna do, pizza money is on the table. I better get going.” Dad said quickly before walking out the front door.
“Welcome home, Jack.” I mumbled before walking to the kitchen. I poured myself a bowl of cereal and sat down at the the kitchen table. I ate my cereal in silence since I was the only one here. My phone went off in my pocket so I grabbed it and clicked the message.

From Sally:
Jack I’m sorry. You know that I just don’t like seeing you hurt over a guy. There are so many other guys worth your time, please forgive me Jackary.

To Sally:
It’s fine. I know you look out for me and thank you for that. You at Evans?

From Sally:
No, we canceled cause you were pissed. Sleepover at mine?

To Sally:
Sounds good.

I quickly ate the rest of my cereal and put the bowl in the sink. I ran up the steps and packed a bag. I walked back down the steps and out the door. I put my headphones in my ears and blasted some Green Day as I made my way to Sally’s. Her house was only five minutes away from my walking distance so I didn't mind walking.

I soon arrived at her house and walked right in. We never knock when we go to each others houses. Her older sister, Aislinn who was 17 was walking by the door when I came in.
“Hey homo.” She joked as she walked by me. She always jokes around since I like dudes. She never means it in a mean way or anything so it doesn't bother me.
“Hey asshole.” I said as I made my way up the steps to Sally’s room. I walked to the blue door with a bunch of Black Veil Brides posters and walked right in. Sally was just standing there in her bra looking in the mirror.

“Am I fat?” She asked as she pinched her stomach.
“What? No. Why would you think that?” I asked throwing her a shirt. This was normal for us. I've seen her naked before and she has seen me naked. That’s friendship.
“Some girl called me fat today, no biggie.” She laughed as she put a shirt on.
“Well then…” I said laughing and I plunked down on her bed.
“So what are we doing tonight?” I asked as she laid down next to me.
“Well whatever we really want.” Sally said as we turned on our sides to look at each other.
“Okay.” I said.
“And like I said, I’m really sorry for earlier Jack. I just don’t like seeing you hurting.” Sally said as she put her arm on my shoulder in a loving way.
“It’s okay Sally. I know you meant well. It’s just like-” I paused for a moment and then sighed, “never mind it’s silly.”
“No, what Jack?” Sally asked as she dropped her hand and laid it on her side facing me.
“What if I never find someone?” I sighed but then chuckled a bit. “Don’t answer that. I promise I’m okay. Let’s do something fun!”
“Well alright then!” Sally laughed jumping off the bed. “Shall we have a dance party?” She giggled while holding up her iPhone.
“Yes!” I cheered. She ran over to her iHome and plugged in her phone and started playing some music.

We started dancing and singing random lyrics to the songs that came on. We were having a blast and then my phone started ringing. Sally turned down the music and I picked up my phone that said ‘Evan would like to FaceTime’

“Ayy!” I shouted once Evan’s face came up on the screen.
“Hey! Come on over man I’m bored!” Evan said as he shoved some pizza in his face.
“I’m actually at Sal’s.” I laughed. “Hi Evan!” Sally shouted jumping on my back making me fall to the floor with a thud along as my phone.
“Everyone alright over there?” We heard Evan laugh. I reached my arm out and picked up my phone. Sally was laying on my back and I was laying on the floor.
“You two, get to my house right now. My Dad isn't home thankfully. It’s just Mom, Alex, Lacey, and I. Alex and Lacey are doing something in his room so we can pretty much do whatever. His friends canceled.” Sally and I looked at each other and she rolled over my back and shouted, “be over in a bit!”

She grabbed my phone and hung up and started packing a bag. After a little bit she popped out of her closet and yelled, “Ready!”

We have to walk to Evan’s house since we both only have our permits. So we trudged along the damaged sidewalk with bags in our hands.

After a fifteen minute walk, we finally arrive at the Gaskarth mansion. Yeah, they’re like filthy rich so they live in like a five story house. They have a gigantic yard with a pool and anything else you can think of. We walked up to the door and knocked and was soon met with Isobel’s shining smile.

“Oh hello, darlings! Come on in!” She smiled pushing us through the door. “Evan!”
“Coming!” We heard Evan shout as he ran into the waiting area.
“Let’s go guys!” Evan yelled as he booked up the steps. “He has too much energy.” I complained as I followed the hyper boy up the steps.

We set our bags down in Evans room and all plunked down into our own bean bags and grabbed our PS4 controllers. This is what we always do, we each have our own controllers and bean bag and play on the PS4 all night. We are exciting teenagers.

“So I’m guessing you guys made up then.” Evan joked as he picked a game.
“Yup, I’m just too cute for him to stay mad at me.” Sally said putting on her cute face.
“Yeah right!” I joked as I threw a pillow at her messing up her hair.
“Jerk.” She laughed.
“Evan!!” We heard Isobel shout from downstairs.
“What mom!?” Evan shouted walking over to his door.
“Your new binder came in!” She shouted. Evan hit his head against the wall and moaned.
“Okay, thanks.” Evan mumbled before slamming his bedroom door.
“Evan…” I trailed off knowing he was upset that he just couldn't be a normal guy.
“You know we are okay with you being trans, Evan.” Sally said wrapping her arms around him.
“I know.” He mumbled into her shirt before pulling away and sitting back in his bean bag.
“Okay, enough with the heavy. Let’s play!” I shout as they both nod.

We start playing our game but then the door opens making Evan pause the game.
“You okay, Evan? I heard what Mom yelled.” Alex said walking over to Evan who sat on my right and Sally’s left. “Move fag.” Alex gritted through his teeth towards me. I quickly got off the bean bag and let him sit.
“Alex!” Evan shouted. “Jack is my friend and you know that. Stop being mean.” Evan then whispered something in Alex’s ear making Alex look kind of sad.
“You okay?” Alex asked his little brother. I just stood next to Evan’s bed awkwardly as the brothers talked.
“Yeah, I got a Sally hug so I’m alright.” Evan laughed nudging Sally making her giggle. Alex smiled at Sally before getting out of my bean bag and slamming the door without saying a word to me...
