I Just Want A Place In Your Heart Like You Have A Place In Mine

Chapter XVI

I slowly opened my eyes to a different sight then normal. Alex was laying shirtless in my arms. Yeah, I want to wake up like this everyday. I smiled at the boy who was laying in my arms and stroked his hair. I didn't want to wake him but I couldn't help myself. He was just so perfect. His mouth was slightly open and little breaths escaped. He actually had a really tiny nose compared to mine. His hair was really thin and soft as well. He also had a nice looking body, it was too ripped nor was it lanky like mine.

Alex always acts like this big tough guy at school but he isn't. He is really sensitive and hides things from everyone. He has opened a bit to me but not much. I know there is so much more than the dumb jock he is known for. Deep down, he is a lovable, sensitive, talented, nice guy and don’t forget attractive.

I just wished he would always act this way because I know when he wakes up he will act differently than he did last night. Last night he was freezing and wanted to be warm and that is why he acted that way. If he hadn't been cold he would never have acted that way, he was flirting, being all sweet and giving me compliments. I wish Alex would always act the way he acts around me but he doesn't. I wish he would break down his walls and let people see the real him. I wish things were different.

I sighed and tried sliding out from Alex’s grip but it was hard. Right as I started moving he grabbed onto my waist more and squeezed it in his sleep. I smiled and picked his hand off my side, I was tempted to kiss it but I didn't just in case he woke up. I laid his hand down on the bed and slowly got him off my side.

I walked out of my room not bothering to put a shirt. I walked into the living room and looked out the window. There was snow everywhere, it honestly looked like something that came straight from tumblr. It was still snowing and there must have been already three feet.

“Ah, you’re up.” I heard Dad say. I turned around and seen him at the dining table eating an egg. “Your Mom wasn't feeling the best today, so she is lying down for a bit in our room.”
“Is she okay?” I asked worriedly. She has been out of the hospital for a few weeks now but anything could still happen.
“Yeah, she’s fine, Jack.” Dad laughed while putting a fork of egg in his mouth. “She just has the common cold.”
“Oh, okay, good.” I smiled and walked into the kitchen. “How much snow are we getting?”
“A lot,” he huffed. “A lot indeed. It’s a post to snow all weekend. It’s all coming from the great lakes and it carried down here to good old Maryland.”
“So we’re all trapped inside? For the whole weekend?” I said with my mouth hanging open.
“Yes we are, Jacko.” He laughed flinging some egg at my face. I groaned as I pulled it off my face and put it in mouth. “Could use some more salt.”
“You’re gross.” He said patting his stomach since he just finished his breakfast. “I thought Alex came here last night?”
“He did, he’s still sleeping.” I said smiling as I pulled some milk out of the fridge.
“Alright. I’m going to go check up on your Mom and then I’ll be back down.” He said getting up from the table. I nodded in his direction and he said, “And Jack, you might wanna wake your boyfriend up. It’s eleven.”
“You know he isn't my boyfriend, butthole.” I muttered throwing a paper towel roll at his head.
“Mhm.” He laughed and stumbled up the stairs.

I grabbed two bowls from the cabinet and set them down on the table. I grabbed two spoons and the milk and put them down on the table as well. I wish I could actually make food but I can’t, I have no skill. I left the kitchen deciding to wait for Alex to wake up before eating even though I was starving.

Soon after heard small footsteps coming down the steps, I knew it was Alex. “Jack?” He called out. I walked to the stairs and smiled. “Morning, Sleeping Beauty or should I say good afternoon.”
“What time is it?” He asked rubbing his eyes.
“About 11:30. Did you look outside?” I asked. He looked at me confused and shook his head.

He still didn't have a shirt on thankfully and he walked over to the window and smiled. “There is so much snow! That has to be at least a foot!”
“More like three!” I laughed coming up behind him and going to his side.
“How much more are we getting?” He asked as his eyes shined looking at the wonderland outside.
“A lot for sure. It’s gonna be snowing all weekend. You’re stuck here.” I laughed.
“Wait- like I’m stuck here? We’re snowed in?” He gulped looking at me.’
“Yeah, that’s okay ri-” He cut me off by yelling, “Holy fuck yeah!”
“Well you seem excited.” I chuckled.
“Well now we just get to chill here and not worry about anything.” Alex smiled. He honestly looked so happy and content. “I didn't want to go home anyways.”
“How come?” I asked. Are things still not okay with his dad?
“My Dad, he just keeps putting on so much pressure.” He mumbled sadly. “It’s hard trying to balance my family out all the time.”
“Come here.” I whispered holding out my arms for him. He looked at me for a moment but then he moved in and hugged me. It felt nice to hug him but it was kinda weird since we both didn't have shirts on but he needed someone there for him and I will make sure it’s gonna be me.
“Thanks, Jack.” He murmured into my neck.
“Anytime, Alex.” I smiled into his hair. I kissed his hair lightly and we pulled away. He had a light blush on his face which made me laugh.
“Stop laughing at me!” He complained sounding like a little kid. “Make me breakfast!”
“Well, you’re in luck because I’m the best cook ever!” I said sarcastically.
“For some reason I don’t believe you.” He gave me a suspicious look.
“Good, ‘cause I suck,” I laughed. “I make some mean cereal though.”
“I love cereal!” Alex screamed.

We ate our cereal just talking about random shit until Mom and Dad came downstairs all dressed up. “Jack, Alex!” Dad hollered. Alex and I looked at each other curious and walked into the living room. “Yeah?” I asked.
“Well, I’m feeling better and we were going to get our Christmas tree tomorrow but since the snow is only going to get worse we are going to get it now. You have to come along and pick it out. Alex can either come along and get stuck at our house all weekend or we can drop you off before the roads get terribly bad.” Mom said as she sat down on the couch waiting for an answer. Alex looked at me to see if it would be okay if he stayed. Like he needed to ask.
“I’ll stay, we don’t really decorate too much for Christmas. Our butlers do it mostly. I’d love to stay if that’s alright.” Alex said shyly.
“Of course it is sweetie!” Mom gushed. “Now go on upstairs and get ready.”

Alex and I walked up stairs and got ready quickly. We each got into some skinny jeans and t shirts. He straightened his hair and spiked mine up like usual. I cleaned my glasses while Alex waited for me to get done. After that we walked down stairs, put our shoes and coats on, and headed out the door.

We all got into the Jeep and pulled out onto the slippery roads. It actually was pretty dangerous but my family loves Christmas and they always need to get an actual tree.

“So Alex,” Mom said from the passenger seat. “Doing anything special for Christmas?”
“Well my Aunt and Uncle and cousins are coming Tuesday because it’s my birthday and they usually stay at my house until Christmas.”
“You have a Christmas birthday? That’s so cool. Jacky here had to be born in the Summer.” Mom joked.
“If you’re birthday is on Tuesday that means Christmas is only 15 days away from today!” I shouted excitedly. I loved Christmas so much! My family always got into the Christmas spirit right as November first comes. We live for Christmas.
“This is so exciting!” Mom squealed doing to a little dance as All I Want For Christmas Is You played softly in the background.
“Bassam, are we still having our little get together?” Mom asked.
“Yeah, of course! I’ll send out invitations tonight.” Dad smiled. Alex looked at me confused and I said, “Every year they always invite the neighbors and their children over on Christmas Eve for a little get together. They play games with the little kids, eat food, watch movies, listen to Christmas music. It’s kinda fun. I’m always allowed to invite one person, I invited Zack last year. Wanna come? It's kinda kidy and stuff but-”
“I’d love to, Jack.” Alex laughed because of my rambling. The car started to slow down as it turned.
“We’re here!” I screamed once I saw all the trees. Dad pulled into the parking space and I ran out of the car.

“Jack, slow down!” Alex called out but I continued to run. Soon, I lost my balance on a patch of ice and fell right on my ass. “Ow!” I screamed in pain.
“You fucking dumbie!” Alex laughed hunching over on his knees. “You should have listened to me.”
“Just help me up!” I cried.
“Nope first you gotta say ‘Alex is the best and I should have listened to him because he is always right.’”
“You’re pushing it.” I groaned. “Alex is the best and I should have listened to him because is very attractive.”
“That’s not what I said but it works.” He blushed grabbing my hand and pulling me up.
“Come on let’s find the perfect tree!”

We all walked around aimlessly, Mom and Dad went looking and Alex and I looked. “What type of tree do you usually get?” He asked as he stared at the green trees covered in snow.
“Big, fat ones.” I laughed. “There the only kind my Mom will get.”
“How about this one?” I asked pointing to a big tree tall tree.
“Uh, Jack,” Alex laughed. “I don’t think that would fit in your living room.”
“It could have been Chevy Chase’s Christmas tree!” I complained. He just laughed at my dumb comeback and grabbed my hand and dragged me to some other trees. I blushed as he pulled me along look at all the other trees. He stopped in front of one tree and looked at in intensively. We stopped walking but he still had a hold of my hand. Once he noticed his eyes widened and dropped my glove covered hand. “I-I’m so-sorry.”
“Hey it’s fine.” I smiled. He nodded and said, “How about this one.” It honestly was perfect! It had the perfect shape, it was full, there was no brown needles, and there was a perfect place for the star on top.
“This is perfect.” I smiled and called for my parents. “Did ya find one?”
“Alex found this, I think it’ll be perfect.” I said looking at Alex who was blushing like mad and then my parents.
“Ah! It’s amazing! We want this one!” Mom squealed to the worker. Then wrapped it up in a net and set it on top of our jeep.
“Come on, we got decorating to do. The snow is falling harder.”

Dad and I sat it up in the living room in front of the big window while Alex and Mom drank tea and talked.
“Their pansies.” I complained while I wrapped lights around the big tree that just happened to have sharp needles.
“Why don’t you and Alex go and get the ornaments.” Dad smiled taking the lights out of my hands. “You sure?” I asked.
“Yup, and get the rest of the Christmas decorations while you’re up there.” He said. I nodded and walked over to the stairs.

“Alex! Sorry to interrupt your conversation about nail polish but you gotta help me carry some boxes down.” I joked. Alex chuckled and rolled his eyes and walked over to me.
“Well, let’s go then.” We both raced up the steps and up to the attic. Once we got up there Alex said, “You’re family is so nice. Your Mom is so sweet.”
“Yeah, they’re great. It gets boring just the three of us but sometimes it has its perks.” I smiled at him handing him so boxes.

We made several trips up and down the stairs but on our final trip when we got downstairs Christmas music was playing while Mom and Dad danced around the living room as it snowed outside. “Aw!” Alex gushed quietly next to me. I smiled at the sight in front of me and set the boxes down.
“Delivery is here!” Mom and Dad pulled away laughing quietly. “Let’s start with the ornaments. There is also fresh cocoa in the kitchen!”

I walked to the kitchen and grabbed a mug for Alex and I. I handed it to him and he took a big gulp and nearly spit it out. “I just made it Alex! It’s hot!”
“You should have told me that five seconds ago!” He groaned holding his tongue.
“Use your senses darling.” Mom laughed and opened the box of ornaments. We all started grabbing the glass balls and shapes and hung them on the tree merrily. It was honestly like Alex was a part of the family.

A little later, I let the three of them finish decorating the tree while I decorated the house. I replaced the throw pillows on the couch with little snowman pillows. I hung the mistletoe in front of the backdoor and hung lights up outside. When I walked back inside, Alex was standing in the dinning room, “It looks really good.”
“Thanks!”

Later that night, Alex and I were laying on living room floor at midnight. I always slept downstairs the first night that we got our Christmas tree so Alex and I made a bed of blankets and pillows on the floor, it only seemed right.

“Jack are you awake?” Alex whispered.
“Yeah.”
“Thanks for today, it was the most fun I have had in a long time. When I’m with you everything seems okay. I don’t care if this snow keeps falling. I hope the snow keeps falling because I don’t wanna leave. And it doesn't seem like it’s gonna stop anytime soon but I couldn't be happier. I know this sounds cheesy and stupid but I really had a great time today, I never actually picked out a Christmas tree. You guys made me feel like I actually have a caring family.” He whispered from my side. I looked down at the slightly smaller boy and his eyes were shut as he shivered.
“Well I'm glad you like it here because I’m not letting you go easily.” I murmured as the fire flickered and the Christmas lights twinkled. “Can I try something?” He asked quietly to where I could barely hear him.
“Yeah.” I said closing my eyes. We both were pretty much sleeping, I think. He grabbed my arms and he turned on his side facing away from me and put my arms on his sides so I was spooning him. His skin was ice cold and he was shivering.
“Is okay?” He asked, just like last night.
“Shh...get warm. Everything is perfect, absolutely perfect.” I smiled kissing his head before we both drifted into a peaceful slumber.
