For some reason today I was the first person at school. Maybe it was because it was the last day of school for week? I wasn’t sure but all I knew was that I was alone. I walked to my locker with my earbuds in, playing music softly. I got out the books I needed for the day until I heard the doors of the school bang open. I dropped my books in fright and turned around to see what happened.

All the footballers were now in the school, in uniform, going to the locker room which you needed to pass my locker to get too, unfortunately. These were the moments I wish I was invisible. Just as I thought, some came up to me and some passed me.

“Hey fag!” One of the jocks yelled slamming my locker. Don’t let them think you’re scared.
“My name is actually Jack.” I replied with a smirk.
“Wipe that smirk off your face or I’ll do it for ya!” Colton said this time coming up with Alex behind him. I looked at him in the eye but then looked away when Colton punched me square in the face.
“God dammit!” I screamed putting my hand on my cheek where it was already swelling.
“Come on Alex, help me finish him off.” Colton laughed getting ready to punch me again until Alex grabbed his fist stopping him.
“You guys go, Coach will be mad if we are all late. I’ll finish him off.” Alex smiled at his teammates. Shit! He was going to beat me! I thought we were friends again? Yesterday was so fun and now he wants to beat me?
“Alright, good thinking!” They yelled and ran off. I still had my hand on my bruised cheek feeling it throb. Alex double checked to probably see if his team left before he moved my hand and laid his hand on my cheek checking out the bruise.
“Oww!” I complained when he gently pushed on it.
“Ah, shit, sorry Jack.” Alex apologized moving his hand from my cheek. Was it already weird that I was already missing the contact?
“It’s fine. Don’t you need to beat me up anyways?” I gritted through my teeth.
“Look, I did that so they wouldn’t beat you up.” Alex whispered just in case someone was there. “I don’t know if you realized yet but I care about you and I’m not gonna watch them beat you up. If they bother you again, tell me. Alright?”
“I will…” I blushed looking at the floor. Why does he have to be so fricking sweet all the time?
“Good.” He laughed putting his finger under my chin making me look at him. Holy shit! Was he going to kiss me? “I should get going, teams waiting.” I looked into his brown eyes and melted. He was probably standing a bit too close for just friends but it’s not like I minded. People were starting to walk into the school so Alex took a step back and moved his hand away from my face. “See ya later.”
“Yeah, see you.” I smiled as he grinned back. He walked away as I stared at his butt that was covered in those tight football uniforms.

“Jack!” Someone yelled making me look from Alex’s ass. “Hm?” I said turning in a circle until I seen Sally crossing her arms and smirking. “Care to explain?” She giggled. “Explain what?” I asked picking up the books I dropped earlier.
“Jack! What happened to you face!” She shrieked running up to me like the over-protective friend she is.
“Got punched in the face by Colton, but I’m fine.” I laughed. It actually didn’t hurt as much after Alex touched it. I just wanted his touch back…
“You sure?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay, now that we covered that. I seen Alex standing very close to you and touching your face. Are you not telling me something?” She asked crossing her arms, leaning against the locker next to mine.
“Nope.” I said simply.
“Ugh Jack! Come on, there has to be something going on between the two of you!”
“Sadly, nothing is going on. Just friends.” I smiled sadly.
“Oh, come here.” She said holding out her arms for a hug. I just laughed a bit and hugged her.
“Yay! Group hug!” We heard Evan shout before he jumped onto my back making us all fall to the floor. People just started giving us weird looks but we didn’t care. We just all busted out laughing. After laughing for a few good minutes we finally got up.

“Woah dude what happened to your face?” Evan asked once he finally got a good look at me.
“Colton punched me this morning.” I said shrugging. He shrugged too and then his face lit up. “So I forgot to tell you guys! Alex and I were inviting a few friends over tonight since we won’t see each other over break. Since Alex already invited you, I guess I don’t need too.” Evan laughed raising his eyebrows up and down.

It kind of hurt knowing that Alex wanted other people there besides me. I thought we were going to just hang out, the two of us. But oh well, did I really expect for him to like me back? But, he did blush last night. That has to be something!

“Who's all coming?” I asked. Evan thought for a minute and said, “Alex and I decided on you of course, Sal, Rian, Cass, Zack, Cassie and Lace is gonna be there of course.”
“Sounds fun!” Sally squealed in excitement. Great, Cassie was going to be there. She seemed like a really sweet girl and she was drop dead gorgeous but I didn’t feel like watching them suck face.
“What time?” I asked in curiosity.
“Six. Then Sal you wanna spend the night? I guess since Alex is taking my best friend to sleepover, Sally's sleeping over.” Evan laughed glaring at me in a joking manner.
“Yeah, sure. And don’t be mad at them.” Sally laughed. “Jack is finally getting noticed by the guy who has liked for two years. It’s sweet seeing Jack like a little lost puppy.” She giggled pinching my cheek that wasn’t bruised.
“K, you can quit that now.” I laughed smacking her hand away. “Oh! That reminds me!” I looked at her confused and she said, “my family is going to Michigan for Thanksgiving and I do not want to go with them. Can I go to New York with you guys?”
“Yeah Mom and Dad won’t mind.” I smiled. Evan and Sally call my parents Mom and Dad since we are all so close.
“Ah! Thanks, you are a lifesaver!” Sally squealed kissing my cheek. Evan looked at us with glint of jealousy in his eye and I sighed, I’ll have to talk to him later.
“When is Mom coming home?” Evan asked.
“Tomorrow!” I smiled happily.
“That’s awesome!” They both shouted and then started laughing.
“Well, I should get to class. Later boys.” She giggled before walking away. I turned to Evan and said, “why were you glaring at me?”
“Sally always touches and kisses your cheek whenever the hell she wants. She has never done that to me!” He complained slamming his head back on the locker.
“Well, since she is coming to New York with my family, I could say something?” I questioned. Evan looked at me confused and then I said, “ I could see if she may have a crush on you and then tell you what she says.”
“You would do that for me!” He shouted excitedly. “Woo hoo!”
“Alright, man, chill.” I laughed and he blushed in embarrassment. “Oh, and I have to tell you something, I was waiting till Sally left to tell you.”
“And…?”
“Well when Alex came home last night, he was so happy. He isn’t even that happy with Cassie. I don’t know what you are doing to make him this happy, but keep doing it. He’s been through a lot and he seems a lot happier now.” Evan said sincerely before getting up, patting my shoulder and walking away.

Wow. Was Evan telling the truth? Did I really make Alex happier than Cassie does?

The day seemed to drag on slowly even though we had a half day. Once 11 o’clock came everyone ran out of their classes, to their lockers, and then out the door they went. Evan, Sally and I were taking our time since we all weren’t hanging out till six. Well Sally was going to come over to my house after school so we could get packed since she has most of her stuff at my house anyways.

We all walked out of the school in our trio talking about random shit.
“So do you really think if Santa was skinny, kids wouldn’t like him as much?” Evan asked for about the third time.
“Yeah!” I shouted. Like why would kids like a random skinny guy in a red suit. He has to be fat! “Santa is not Santa without his fat.”
“Ugh, you guys are so stupid! Does it even matter?” Sally groaned.
“Yes!” We both shouted.
“You guys are hopeless.” She laughed. I purposely made Evan stand in the middle so then maybe he’ll make a move? Like hold her hand or something but he hasn’t done anything.
“Hey!” We heard Alex yell from behind us. He ran up to us and stood next to me. “What’s up?”
“Where’s Cassie?” Evan asked looking over me.
“After school cheerleading practice. Then I seen you guys and decided to walk with you.” Alex shrugged with a slight laugh. I loved hearing him laugh. “Oh and Evan! Did Mom tell you about Tay?”
“No?”
“Well they just moved up here again and she is coming to our school in the beginning of December!”
“Who’s Tay?” I asked clueless.
“Our cousin.” Alex stated.
“That’s amazing! I’ve missed her so much!” Evan gushed. We all just chuckled and continued to walk. During the walk Evan and Sally ended up talking and Alex and I did.
“When are you getting back from New York?” Alex asked randomly.
“The 30th I think.” I stated simply. He seemed to be thinking a lot cause he was staring straight ahead with a thinking look. “Everything okay up there?” I joked. He snapped out of his trance and blushed, “oh, uh, yeah.” He laughed scratching the back of his head. I made him blush again!
“Is Tay are age?” I asked making a conversation.
“Yeah, she’s in our grade. She is amazing at singing, way better than me.”
“Well, I couldn’t really agree cause I never heard either of you guys sing.” I laughed, secretly begging for him to sing to me one day.
“One day.” He smiled. I smiled back and we may have been walking a little too close because our hands brushed up against each others making me blush. Either Alex didn’t notice or he just didn’t care because he didn’t even say anything. Soon after, we arrived at my house and said our goodbyes. “See ya tonight.” Alex smiled giving me a quick hug before him and Evan ran off.
“Aw! He hugged you!” Sally gushed once we got in the door. “Who hugged who?” I heard my one and only Mom say. “Mom!” I screamed and ran over to hug her. “Hey Jacky.”
“I thought you weren’t coming home till tomorrow?” I asked once I pulled away. “Well, I finished my last test so they let me go.”
“That’s great!” Sally squealed running over to hug Mom. After our hugs, Mom got a serious look on her face. “Now, again, who hugged who.”
“Alex hugged Jack!” Sal squealed once again. I just groaned and started walking up the steps. “Jack! Down here!” Mom laughed. “Ugh what!”
“Now, is Alex your boyfriend yet?” Mom said making them laugh. “Oh ha ha. No. Now come on Sally let’s go pack.”

After hours of packing and being stupid we were finally getting ready to go to their house. “Okay, so, I need to make you look good for tonight.” Sally squealed while dancing over to my closet.
“Uh, why?” I asked turning to the song.
“For Alex of course!” She said loudly.
“Again, he is straight.” I groaned.
“I don’t care. You can make that change. Now try this on!” She said throwing me a pile of clothes. I just groaned and pulled my shirt off and slipped the one on that she told me and then pulled off my sweatpants and slipped into these skinny jeans that were a super tight. I walked over to my mirror on my door and stared at my reflection. “These jeans are way to tight.”
“Don’t be silly, they look great. Look how they hug your ass.” She smiled slapping my butt.
“Still, you can practically see my dick coming out of my pants.” I laughed trying to pull my shirt down a bit.
“Ugh, whatever. Put this on.” She said throwing me a black belt. I put it on and it didn’t look as revealing. I had a red v-neck, denim super skinny jeans they probably were Sally’s, and a black belt.
“Perfect!” She squealed. “Now my turn to make you look good.”
“What are you talking about, I’m not trying to impress anyone.” She said confused. I just ignored her and walked over to a section of my closet that had a bunch of her clothing. After a few minutes of searching I found the perfect thing.
“Try this.” I handed her a purple flowy dress but it wasn’t over dressed. She took her clothes off and put it on. “You look amazing.”
“You think so?” She asked looking at a bunch of different views of herself in the mirror.
“Yes, now, so do you like anyone?” I asked her randomly.
“No?”
“Oh, well I heard that our buddy Evan has a crush on you.” I smirked. Her face seemed to drop.
“Really?” She asked slowly.
“Yeah, well he didn’t exactly tell me he did. I just kinda guessed.” I lied just in case she doesn’t like him that way.
“Oh, wow.” She smiled.
“So you do like him that way?” I asked.
“Shut, up. It’s time to go we are already late.” She said tugging on my arm and dragging me down the steps with our bags in our hands.

We accidently got there a half hour late because when we were at my house we lost track of time. So when we knocked on the door it was already past 6:30.
“Hey! Finally!” Evan shouted when he opened the door. We just laughed and walked into the warm house.
“Hey guys!” Zack smiled from the couch. I looked around, Rian had his arm around Cass’ shoulders next to Zack. Then my eyes finally found Alex. He was sitting on the couch with Cassie by his side with their fingers intertwined. I couldn’t help but feel the pang of jealously stabbing me in my chest.

We dropped our bags by the door and Evan’s mom came into the room.
“Oh, Jack and Sally! It’s so nice to see you again!” Isobel smiled at us.
“You too, Isobel.” Sally said politely.
“Well, I have some pizza’s cooking in the kitchen, there’s soda and chips, movies, and anything else you would like. Your father isn’t here tonight so you can be as loud as you want.” She smiled excitedly. Evan and Alex’s mom always seemed a lot nicer than their dad. “But, no alcohol.” She said looking at only Alex making us laugh. Alex raised his hands up in a surrendering manner and she smiled. “Good. And if Lacey decides to come down, welcome her and don’t leave her out.”
“Of course, Mom.” Alex smiled.
“Alright, when the timer beeps take the pizza out. I’ll be in my room.” We all nodded.

Evan, Sally, and I sat on the other couch in the living room. I was on the end that was closest to where Alex was sitting. Everyone was in their own conversations and I was sitting there awkwardly. Zack, Rian, and Cass were all talking, Evan and Sally were probably flirting and Alex and Cassie we talking of course.

“Hey Jack, have you meet Cassie?” Alex asked getting my attention. I looked over at the couple and laughed, “not formally.” The only time I really meet her was when she shoved Alex at me.
“Hi, I’m Cassie!” She said kindly.
“Hey,” I smiled. She was sweet and very bubbly.
“Alex told me you were going New York for Thanksgiving,” Cassie said. I nodded slowly and then she continued, “I always wanted to go to New York. I’ve never been out of Maryland.”
“Woah, really?” I asked.
“My whole family lives in Maryland so we never leave.” She laughed.
“With you and Sally gone over break, Evan is gonna drive me fucking nuts.” Alex said joining the conversation. He looked more beautiful than ever before. His hair was perfectly straightened and teased. There wasn’t a flaw on his face and his clothes fit him perfectly.
“Hey, I’m probably going to go crazy because she is going to be complaining about being apart from Evan.” I laughed.
“Did he finally make a move?” Alex asked.
“No, not yet. But Sally knows that he likes her. Let’s hope she does too.” I said.
“They’ll be sucking face by the end of the night.”


It was now nearing eleven o’clock and everyone left about an hour ago. So now it was just Evan, Alex, Sally, Lacey, and I. Evan and Sally were now holding hands so I’m pretty sure that they are a little more than friends.
“Do are you two together now or what?” Alex asked making me slap his arm. “Ow what?”
“You can’t just ask that!” I whispered screamed at him.
“Why not?”
“God, you know nothing.” I laughed hitting my head. He just looked at me confused and laughed. “You’re something else, Jack.”

I blushed at the comment and hide my face behind my fringe. He still seemed to notice and he just laughed. “Awh, Jack is blushing again.”
“Shut up!” I said slapping his arm. Evan and Sally didn’t hear us but Lacey sure did.
“I’m gonna just head up to bed.” Lacey said before walking off.
“Yeah, I think we will too.” Evan said and started walking away with Sally.
“No sex!” Alex shouted after the two.
“Same too you!” Evan shouted back sarcastically but still making Alex’s widen in surprise. After they walked off we were left in an awkward silence.
“Okay, this is awkward. I should probably go.” I said getting off the couch. Before I could get too far Alex grabbed my hand. “Don’t go! Uh, I mean it’s fine we know how Evan can be.”
“You sure?” I asked turning around.
“Yeah. I’m positive. Let’s go upstairs.” Alex smiled dropping my hand.
“Okay.”

We grabbed my bag and headed up to Alex’s big room that was three times bigger than mine. I dropped my bag on his floor and he plopped down on his bed.
“Y’know what?” I asked sitting down next to him.
“Hm?”
“You still haven’t sang anything yet and that was weeks ago.” I said nudging his shoulder.
“No, I’m pretty sure I did.” Alex laughed trying to get out of it. Not on my watch…
“No, actually, you didn’t.”
“Ugh, you aren’t going to let this go are you?” He muttered.
“Nope.”
“Maybe another time, Jack.” Alex sighed. I just groaned and hit his shoulder.
“Pleaseeee?”
“I’ll sing when you give me that first guitar lesson.” Alex laughed.
“How about after break?” I asked.
“Yeah, that’ll work.” Alex smiled.
“Good.”

We were now left in silence. It wasn’t an awkward silence but it wasn’t an comfortable silence either. I looked at Alex and said, “since we change semesters after the break, what relative arts class do you have next?”
“Uh, music finally!” He laughed.
“Does your team have music?” I asked.
“Nope, they don’t like music class. I usually have to leave that period early for football sometimes anyways.”
“Well, what period do you have it in?” I asked curiously.
“Third I think?”
“So do I.” I smiled happily.
“Good, finally a class without my team and just you.” Alex said shyly. I just laughed and blushed once again.
“Are you cold?” Alex asked, “cause I am.” He got off his bed and threw a hoodie over his pajamas. “You want one?”
“Sure.” He walked over to me and handed me a grey hoodie. “Thanks.” I smiled and slipped the hoodie over my head. Alex plunked down on the bed hitting his head against the headboard making me laugh.

“What a great friend! Laughing at my pain!”Alex complained pretending to be hurt.
“Oh I’m sorry would you rather this?” I hopped off the bed and got on my knees. “Oh dear Alex, are you alright? It seems you have hit your noggin on the headboard there. Is there anything I could possibly do?”
“Okay, I liked when you were laughing at me more.” Alex laughed. I just laughed and rolled my eyes and sat down next to him.

“Wanna watch a movie?” He asked. I nodded silently and he walked over to his T.V. “Anything certain you want to watch?”
“Anythings fine.” I shrugged. He nodded and looked through his movies. While he was doing that I looked around his room and seen a old notebook laying on his dresser.
“What’s that?”
“What’s what?” He asked turning around.
“That.” I said pointing to his notebook.
“Oh, just some random doodles and song lyrics. Do not touch it.” He warned before turning back around. I wonder what exactly is in it?

The movie soon started playing and Alex walked over to the bed and laid next to me. I honestly had no idea what movie he had playing because all I was doing was focusing on him. His eyes were on the screen so I got a perfect look and seen his long eyelashes. His hairspray was coming out so you could see his hair starting to fall into his right eye. He had an oversized sweatshirt on along with sweatpants. I was wearing pretty much the same thing and I couldn’t actually believe I was wearing his sweatshirt. Hanging out with him only started making my feelings for him stronger. I thought they were gone but they weren’t. They probably will never go away either. It just seems that everyday I fall harder and harder and there is nothing I can do about it which sucks because I know I will never be more than a friend to him.
