A Love Like War

"You what? Could you please repeat that again?" I asked my boyfriend, "The machine must've distorted my hearing."
"I want to date you and Alex, both, at the same time."
"So, I wasn't wrong, I'd heard you right," I fumed.
"I know," he sighed, "Not an option, I can't have you both," Jack hung his head.
"You know," I said, dipping the needle into the carrot orange ink and pressing it into his skin, "You picked a hell of a place to have this conversation. Why my workplace, why Pins N' Needles? Couldn't this have waited until I got home?"
"No, I know that you don't let anything interfere with your work, Tay. I wanted you to have time to think about it, rationally, without blowing your top about this," he explained.
"Is this because of the... thing?" I asked cautiously.
"Not really, it had helped me figure out a lot about myself and my feelings towards Alex, but they were there before that ever happened, before we ever got together."
"Well, I do need some time to think this over, Jack. Having to share you intimately, emotionally, sexually..."
"Not sexually, besides kissing and cuddling, I'd never have sex with Alex. I hate penises."
I laughed a little, struggling to keep the black lines that I'd just started straight. "Okay, I'm done," I smiled.
Jack walked over to the mirror hanging from the sanctuary to examine his tender skin.
"It looks sick as fuck, babe, what do I owe you?" he pulled out his wallet.
"Nothing, this one's on me, lovey."
"Thanks Taylor, you're the greatest," he kissed my lips. If I was so great, then why did he want to be with someone else?
I sighed, "So, is this something you really want?"
"Yeah, I mean, I love Alex. I really love him. I love you, too, just as much. I just, I wanna try at least."
I looked past Jack into the main lobby, a woman was in there looking around. "Well... I will definitely be thinking about it, but another customer is here, I'll be home at six tonight. Does Alex know anything about this?"
"Yeah, I've already brought up the idea to him," he confirmed.
"Okay, well we'll all talk about it over dinner tonight, see you later babe." I leaned in to kiss him before he walked out the door.
I followed behind him, greeting the woman who was now at the counter. "Hi, can I help you?" I asked.
"Yeah, do you do microdermal implants?" she asked, "I'd like one above each of my hips."
"we do, but our piercer is out on his lunch break right now," I bit my lip, "I'm the tattooist, Taylor."
"You do the tattoo's?" She lit up.
"Great, I was looking to get one anyway."
"What'd you have in mind?" I asked, pulling a sheet of artist's paper from beneath the counter.
"I wanted the triforce, you know? From the Legend of Zelda?"
"Awesome. I love the Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time was the shit. I personally prefer Majora's Mask though."
The woman laughed, "But I wanted it somewhat larger with a picture of Link within the triforce itself."
"Interesting," I commented with a smile, "Where were you wanting to get it at?"
She lifted her shirt, "Right here, in between my breasts, but underneath."
"Great placement choice, that'll flow so well with your body, it's perfect. Come on back, I'll need to finish drawing it out."
In the office, I opened my laptop to google images to find a picture of Link that she liked well enough.
"So, was that guy your boyfriend?" She asked.
"Yeah. Jack," I smiled. "Go ahead and look over these and tell me which one," I handed her the computer.
"He's adorable," she said nonchalantly as she scrolled. "I couldn't help but overhear your conversation."
"Oh," I blushed noticeably embarrassed.
"You seem pretty distressed about it, I take it you've never tried Polyamoury before?"
"Poly-huh?"
"Polyamoury, it means to have multiple loves or lovers."
"Oh," I replied, "No, I haven't. I mean there was once, when I was drunk, with him and the guy he wants to be with also. We.. all made love.."
She smiled, "Been there before, honey."
"I just don't understand," I frowned.
"What, dear? How about this one?" She asked pointing to a picture of Link holding up a sword.
"Sure," I nodded and began drawing. "I just don't get why he'd want him, too. Am I not good enough?"
"I'm sure it's not that, he just may want the best two things in his life as close to him as possible. Polyamoure isn't as bad as it seems, unless they'res jealously present. The green eyed monster is a sneaky vendictive bastard."
"Well, I've never been jealous of Alex, even when I sensed that Jack had a thing for him. I suppose I could always try it. It's worth a shot, especially if it will make him happier."
"Atta girl, everything is worth a try. If you never try, how will you ever know the outcome?" The woman laughed.
"True, plus Alex already lives with us, loves us... well, not like that, but you know what I mean," I giggled.
"Then, there wouldn't be much of a change! And two boyfriends... Think about it, hun," she lifted an eyebrow.
"Oh yeah, Alex would be my boyfriend too, I hadn't even thought of that." I couldn't lie, Alex still gave me lady boners sometimes. Who wouldn't have one for him. I mean, truthfully, have you seen that guy. I'd longed to be with him sometimes as I had that sultry night four years ago, it was just highly unethical.
"Change your mind yet? Completely on board?" she asked.
"Still thinking about it, I don't want to ruin anything and I'm not completely positive that it won't. But I'm leaning that way, thanks for the advice... uh...?"
"Hayley," she said, "Hayley Williams."
"Thanks Hayley, all done," I held up the drawing.
"Looks incredible, let's get it inked."
As I poured my inks, I couldn't help but smile. Jack, Taylor and Alex, the triforce of polyamoury.

Notes

So, my new series is called Stupid and Fearless. I've actually had it finished for a very long time. It's a continuation of a story someone else wrote. I just felt like it wasn't finished enough yet. I did, of course have her permission. (: Xoxox- Nicole.
