A Love Like War

"Tay, come here would you?" Jack asked into the hall as soon as he heard the front door shut.
"What's up, babe?" She asked peeking her head around the door into my bedroom.
"Grab me that soda can," he said.
Taylor scoffed, "You're kidding me, right?"
"No," Jack replied without turning his focus away from the screen in front of him. "I'm hella thirsty, can you get it for me?"
"No 'Hello baby, how was your day?', No 'I missed you.'?, No 'I love you, Taylor.'?" She asked.
No response.
"Were you waiting for me to get home just so you could tell me to do that?"
Still no response. Taylor looked to me and I shrugged, unsure of what to say. I stared off into the Borderlands 2 poster on the wall.
"Fine," she replied, annoyed, grabbing the can that was no more than ten feet from Jack's reach. She handed it to him.
He took a long drawl from the grape drink and spoke again, "Make me a sandwich while you're at it?"
"Bite me," Taylor pivoted and left the room.
"Wonder what crawled up her ass?" Jack asked.
I said nothing. I wanted to tell him how much of a degenerate jackass he was being, but it wasn't my place to intervene.
Taylor Jardine, the girl I'd longed for since elementary school. She was the sweetest girl in all the cosmos. She constantly tried to get Jack to be the cute, loving, intimate man she had wanted. She'd come to me for advice about it many a time. I felt bad for not knowing what to tell her. I would always say to keep trying, though I knew it was no use.
I'd known Jack since pre-school. I knew the way he dated like the back of my hand. Always a man of routine, Jack would do the same thing: play the kind, gentle, loving, dedicated part to reel them in and once he'd had them hooked he'd get bored, lazy.
Though, I'd never seen him treat a girl quite the way he treats Taylor. Maybe it was because she let him, maybe she was too in love, who knows.
He neglects her attempts at being nice, so she lashes back to show him what 'he's asking for.' Its always a recipe for disaster.
Taylor swears he's different when they're alone. 'He still lacks the intimacy, but he's a different man.'
Jack really ought to get his head out of his ass before Taylor disconnects and finds someone else to fill the void. Shit, I would give my left nut to have a chick like Taylor; intelligent, gorgeous, a great cook, humorous, raging libido. All the essentials.
For five and a half years, Taylor Jardine was all I wanted, all that I dreamed of day after day.
"Here you guys go." Taylor entered the room with two plates. "Ham, cheese, lettuce and tomato with cheddar chips for my baby and ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard with barbeque chips for Alex. Just the way my boys like," she smiled.
See? She's incredible.
"Thanks babe," Jack kissed her cheek.
"Thanks a million, Tay, I was starved," I said gratefully.
"With a gut like that?" she laughed. "No, really, its no big deal."
She smiled that luminous smile again. Oh, what I wouldn't give to hold her, be all she needed and then some, to kiss her again, make love to her... The right way. Man, Jack is a lucky bastard.
"Alex, I gotta talk to you," Jack said promptly as Taylor left.
"Sure man, what's up?" I asked, setting down my controller and taking a bite of my sandwich. "Man, tastes like heaven."
"Its a serious topic, really serious," he said nervously, his hands starting to shake.
"Dude," I began to worry, "What's the matter?"
"Remember what we talked about?" he swallowed, "Back when hugh school first started after the, uh... Thing with me, you, Tay and Jim?"
"It was Jack, Jack Daniels," I corrected him, cringing, recalling the night we all shared a shitfaced threesome. I'd poured my heart out to Jack, confused about my own sexuality. I told him that he should've been with me and not Taylor. I told him that she wasn't good enough for him. "But.. Yeah, what about it?"
"Remember how we talked about our feelings? Towards each other? How if Tay and I didn't work out, that we would date each other?"
"Yeah, I remember."
"Well... I can't hold back any longer dude. I still like you.. I mean, really really like you; I wanna be with you dude," Jack looked down as if ashamed of himself and twiddled his thumbs.
"Well, what about Tay?" I asked unsure of what else to say. This was out of the blue and completely unexpected. 'I was drunk when I agreed to that..' I internally screamed.
"I'm going to try and get her to agree to it," Jack replied.
"To what exactly?" I questioned, puzzled.
"To you, in our relationship. To bringing you in as a third party."
"Taylor?" I asked. Jack had intended on a tripod of a relationship, which would mean I'd be dating her as well. Taylor Jardine would finally be my girl. "That means I'd be with her, too. Are you okay with that? Do you think she'd go for it?"
"I'll have to get used to it... And I don't know.. I don't want to lose her, she's the most important part of my life."
'Then why don't you treat her like it, jackass?!'
"But.. I-I love you, dude. Its hard to explain. I mean, I'd never wanna fuck. I like pussy way too much to go the other way.. Just lots of bro time like usual. I just want to be able to kiss you, cuddle you, go on dates from time to time and call you mine."
"I know, I remember what we talked about."
"Plus, Taylor's always saying 'love knows no boundaries.'"
It was incredibly taboo, but I couldn't deny I still had some feelings for Jack as well. He was my first kiss after all, though the kiss from Taylor afterward was dynamite. I desperately wanted to feel that again. "I'm in."
"What?" Jack asked, obviously shocked.
"If Taylor will have me," I picked up the controller again, "I'm in."
