We Were Born To Lose
I'm A Nervous Wreck
The day started earlier than usual. Instead of being up at seven, I was up at five trying to get Alex out of bed.
“Come on.” I whined.
“Noooo.” He mumbled.
“Everybody else is already up and eating breakfast.” I said.
“Noooo.” He repeated. I sighed and sat next to him.
“If you get up, I’ll do something for you later tonight.” I smirked. His head immediately popped up.
“What kind of something?” He asked, raising his eyebrows. I moved my hand and ran my fingers through his hair as I leaned in and brought my lips to his ear.
“Oh I think you know.” I purred before licking the shell of his ear slowly. I felt him shudder as I retreated.
Within five seconds he was already out of bed and tugging on his pants. I giggled as he searched frantically for a tunic.
“Well come on Jack, we haven’t got all day!” He cried having finally found one and tugging it over his head.
My grin grew as he ran, opened the door, and gestured me hurriedly to come. Damn he was one horny son of a bitch.
Breakfast was every bit as pleasant as dinner had been but luckily it was over quicker as everyone had to go warm up before the day’s tournament. Alex and I were doing some slow, lazy fighting to warm up his muscles while someone else put up the first pairing.
They do this on a giant wood board with each of the kingdom’s crests. When two crests are put together, that means the champions representing those crests will fight.
I noticed Sir Gonthad watching at us. This realization caused my movements to falter giving Alex the chance to knock my sword out of my hand.
“I win.” He grinned.
“Yeah you won and it seems someone has been spectating.” I replied, shifting my eyes over to the knight.
Alex followed my gaze and by the way his jaw clenched, I could tell he saw to whom I was referencing.
“Come to admire my technique?” He called.
“Actually no, I came to inform you that the first pairing has been chosen.” The knight replied.
Alex sheathed his sword and we all walked to the board. The two crests I saw made my stomach drop. The Gaskarth crest of a roaring lion surrounded by a red and gold background signaled Alex and the Lance crest of two crossed swords surrounded by blue and white signaled Sir Gonthad.
“Good luck. You’ll need it.” The knight smirked as he extended his hand.
“The one needing luck will be you.” Alex replied, shaking it stiffly. From the looks of it, it seemed like they were trying to break each other’s fingers… Actually they probably were.
A horn sounded one blast meaning that their battle would begin in ten minutes.
“Come on.” Alex said rigidly, passing me but not before throwing a glare at Sir Gonthad. We walked into his tent and I helped him get the last of his armor on.
“You’re going to do great, Alex. Don’t be nervous.” I said, my hands shaking as I buckled things.
“I’m not nervous.” He replied, relaxed.
“I know. Just remember to breath and stay calm.” I informed, my fingers slipping on the metal clasps because of my sweaty palms.
“I will.” He murmured.
“Okay good and-“
“Jack.” He tried to interrupt but I barely heard him, my pounding heard filled my ears.
“Remember to-“
“Jay.” He inturrupted again. He quickly, but gently, took my hands in his and brought them up to his lips.
“I’ll be fine.” He whispered, kissing each one.
“I know you will.” I replied, smiling softly.
Then the horn sounded two blasts making my heart stop beating and Alex and I locked eyes.
It was time.
