You're So Infamous

Down and Out

Kennedy’s Perspective

It was later that evening and Alex had hung around me the entire night, only leaving to play his set. Now I was packing up the boxes of merch and Alex was helping.

“Alex, you really don’t have to.” I persisted.

“Don’t worry about it, Kennedy. Seriously.” he grinned at me.

We finally got everything packed up, in considerably less time, thanks to Alex.

“Thank you so much, Alex!” I gushed.

“Don’t mention it.” He shrugged, putting his hands in his pockets.

“I feel like I should pay you.” I confessed.

“Well, I don’t take cash or credit, but I do take kisses.” he smirked, wiggling his monstrous eyebrows.

I kissed him on the cheek.

“Hey, that’s cheating!” He pouted.

“Well, that’s all you’re getting!” I laughed.

“Hey, you wanna hang on our bus tonight after the bonfire?” he asked.

“I--” I stammered.

“I mean, we’re all going to the same place. It would be like a big sleepover!” Alex smiled.

“Sure. But on one condition.”

“Name it.”

“This doesn’t mean we’re having sex.” I said seriously, meeting his brown eyes.

“You got it. Race ya to the bonfire!”
I set off running, Alex hot on my tail. I got to the bonfire, where Jack was trying and failing to light up the fire pit.

“Hey, Kenny!” Jack cried.

“Hey,” I panted, just as Alex ran on after me.

“Damn, you sure can run fast.” He sighed, leaning on me for support.

“I get on the treadmill sometimes.” I shrugged.

“That’s hot.” Alex commented.

“Who’s this?” Rian asked, coming over with a bag of marshmallows in his hand.

“Oh, Rian, this is Kennedy, The Summer Set’s merch girl. Kennedy, this is our drummer, Rian.”

“Hey!” Rian smiled. God, I missed his smile.

“Hi.” I smiled, shaking his hand.

Jack and Adelaide came out of the picnic area, swinging their hands between them.

“Jackelaide!!!” I squealed.

Adelaide smiled, but Jack looked at her quizzically.

“Don’t worry about it, baby.” She smiled and kissed his cheek.

We roasted marshmallows and ate s’mores and Alex got drunk with the guys of The Summer Set as Adelaide and I watched them, shaking our heads.

“So why aren’t you getting trashed?” I asked Adelaide.

“I’m sober,” she said.

“Ah.” I nodded, understanding.

“What about you?” She asked.

“Ah, I have some bad memories, and drinking makes them resurface, so I’d rather not.”

It wasn’t a complete lie. Drinking made me think of high school, what drove me to transfer to Dulaney, and what happened that night with Zack. But there was also the fact that I was scared I’d tell them I was Dallas if I were drunk.

“Hey Kennedy, watch this!” Alex cried suddenly, and I followed his voice to the picnic tables. He was standing on top of one with his arms spread out.

“Alex, don’t!” I shouted, but he jumped and landed on his face with an ‘oof.’

I ran over and helped him up, dusting his face off.

“Are you okay?” I asked, trying not to burst out laughing.

“Yeah. Never let me try that again.” He groaned.

“You got it.” I grinned.

I looked over to Adelaide, who was pushing Jack off of her. She stormed away from him. Huh.

--

We got on the road again and Alex introduced me to the rest of the guys, and thankfully, no one recognized me.

Now we were sitting in the back lounge playing BS and everyone had sobered up a lot, all except for Adelaide, who retreated to the bunk room.

“Why isn’t Adelaide playing?” I asked.

“None of your business,” Alex replied coldly.

I raised my eyebrows at Alex’s sudden change in personality.

“Alex, don’t. She’s just tired,” Jack said and I dropped the subject.

--

Adelaide’s Perspective

I sat in the bunk that Jack and I shared, the curtains drawn shut, sobbing.

Kennedy reminded me so much of Dallas, but not because of how much alike they were, but in their differences. But let’s face it, everything reminded me of Dallas these days.

My heart would start beating faster whenever I heard my phone ring, always hoping it’d be her. I rummaged through my bag, finally finding the flask I kept. After the tour with Dallas, the guys began hiding all the booze, thinking I’d stop drinking if my source ran dry. They didn’t know, but I’d figured out where they hid it. It wasn’t that hard. They’re idiots, and plus it’s a tour bus, eventually I’d find it.

I took one swig, grimacing as it burned my throat on the way down, warming my chest. Maybe that’d unfreeze my heart one day.

Kennedy’s Perspective

Despite Alex’s little remark, we had fun playing cards.

Jack ended up with more than half the deck because he’d laugh or look really guilty whenever he lied. At one point, I took about half of his pile, since I felt so bad for him.

At around 2:30, we all finally settled for sleep. Since there were no extra bunks, I had to sleep with Alex. I was immediately brought back to the night that Zack tried to force himself onto me, which was a bittersweet feeling. I missed the smell of Alex, the feeling of his chest beneath my cheek, his soft breathing that had lulled me to sleep that night. I wrapped my left arm around his middle and snuggled closer to him, sighing blissfully. In his sleep, he pulled me closer and pressed his cheek to the top of my head.

--

Alex’s Perspective

We had no extra bunks, so Kennedy ended up sleeping with me in my bunk.

I’ll be honest. Since Dallas left, I’d been back to my age-old manwhoreish ways. Surprisingly, there were still girls who would fall for it. And I’d had every intention of making Kennedy another one of those.

But the way she’d shut me down without me vocalizing what I wanted, made her stand out to me more than any other girl. And she knew my reputation, but still allowed herself to get close to me.

In her sleep, she threw her arm across my stomach and pressed her body closer to mine. She exhaled and I pulled her even closer as I rested my cheek against the top of her head, getting a whiff of her coconut scented hair.

“I love you.” I murmured as I drifted off to sleep.

Kennedy’s Perspective

“I love you.” I heard Alex whisper to me. My eyes shot open.

What the fuck?
