You're So Infamous

You Can't Stay a Saint That Long in the City

Kennedy’s Perspective

A month went by, and we were on tour again, much to my dismay. After giving minimal explanation for my little fainting spell at the mall, I tried not to show my dread, since that would reveal everything.

We got off the bus at the first stop and I made a beeline to the venue to start setting up merch.

“Hey, haven’t seen you around before. What’s your name, cutie?” I heard an all too familiar voice ask. Alex.

“Gasbarf, this is our merch girl, Kennedy. Now leave her alone before she leaves us sans merch girl.” John told him, and walked away, leaving me to fend for myself.

“Kennedy, huh? That’s a nice name.” Alex commented.

“Yeah, don’t wear it out.” I snapped back.

“Hey, hey. No need for the hostility! I’m just trying to be your friend!” Alex said, faking innocence.

“Well, I don’t need a friend, but thanks.” I replied, faking sincerity.

“Aw come on, everyone needs a friend!”

“Not me.” I spat, stalking back to the bus to get boxes with t-shirts and posters in them.

“At least let me help you.” he persisted.

“No thanks.” I smiled fakely, using my elbow to push him aside.

He seemed to finally get the message, and walked off, cussing under his breath, but I really couldn’t care less if he was mad at me.

I realized then what I had to do. I had to be a bitch to Alex so that he’d leave me alone, so that I could keep my identity and get through this tour without any drama. Hurting Alex, though. That would be a challenge. Because not only could he hurt you twice as bad as you hurt him, but I couldn’t bear to imagine the sad look in his deep brown eyes when I broke his heart.

Alex’s Perspective

The Summer Set’s new merch girl was so confusing. She seemed to have a vendetta against me, but she didn’t even know me. I mean, she’d probably heard about my reputation, but that was no reason to judge me.

Still, something in me needed her. Something about her, made me feel like a teenage girl. Jesus, I’m so fucking pathetic.

“Don’t concentrate so hard, you might set the bus on fire.” Jack laughed. I tousled his hair with my fist and he caught me in a headlock.

“What’s up, guys?” Rian asked, coming in with an apple.

“Alex is being emo.” Jack laughed.

“Shut up. Someone has to be serious.” I snapped back.

“Jesus, Alex. Cool it.” Zack cut in.

“You stay out of this.” I bit back, but immediately regretted it. “Man, you know I didn’t mean it.” I said hastily.

“Whatever, Alex.” Zack sighed.

That’s how it’d been lately. Dallas had ruined everything.

Kennedy’s Perspective

The first show of this tour was about to start, and I was all set up, ready to deal with bitchy, impatient teenie boppers. Jack came up and sat on the stool next to me.

“Hey, I’m Jack!” he smiled.

I laughed in spite of myself.

“Hi Jack, I’m Kennedy.” I smiled back.

“That’s a pretty name!” he giggled.

“JACK!” I heard Alex yell from the entrance of the venue.

“Coming, sweetie!!!” Jack called back in the gayest voice possible.

Alex’s Perspective

I saw Jack talking to Kennedy so I took the liberty of calling him over.

"What's up, dude?" He asked.

"Not much. I just don't want you talking to Kennedy." I told him.

"Why not?"

"Because she blew me off." I replied.

"Man, you've got to get over yourself. Ever since Dallas left--" he began, but I cut him off.

"Don't go there." I warned.

"Why shouldn't I? She's the reason we fight all the time. She's the reason Adelaide drinks more than any of us. But you know what? She's nowhere. We shouldn't let her ruin us like we've been doing." Jack ranted.

"You're right. Kennedy's just another bitch." I sighed.

"Hey! Kennedy is not a bitch!" Jack shouted, but this time his tone was silly as usual.

Kennedy's Perspective

Jack came skipping over to me, but this time he was with Alex.

"Kennedy, you're not a bitch, right?"

"No I guess not." I shrugged.

"I beg to fucking differ." Alex muttered.

"Look, Alex. I know some girl fucked you over, but don't take it out on me when I've literally done nothing to you except refusing to let you in my pants. Now if you'll excuse me, I forgot something on the bus."

That last part was a lie. I had brought out everything I needed. But my throat was constricting and I knew that any minute I’d start crying, which Alex would enjoy far too much. On my way out, however, Brian intercepted me.

“Hey, Kennedy. What’s going on?” he asked caringly. I just shook my head and pushed past him. This was getting too hard to handle.

Alex’s Perspective

After Kennedy stormed off, Brian approached us.

“Why did my merch girl just walk away from you two in tears?” he asked.

“I-I just…” I stammered.

“Go talk to her.” Brian told me and walked away.

I filled my cheeks with air and blew it out. This was going to be a long fucking tour.
