Carry Me Home Tonight

I bolted to the restroom after a couple bites of my dish. I couldn’t keep anything down today. Alex would freak out if he found out about me being sick. I had a feeling why I was sick, but I didn’t want him to know.

Once I was done throwing up the couple bites of my pasta, I rinsed my mouth out in the sink and took deep breaths. I looked at myself in the mirror before backing up and turning sideways. I pictured what I’d look like if I was pregnant. I knew Alex would be so mad at me for risking my life for a baby, but this was my only chance to be a mom.

I headed back out to our table and I found Alex clutching his chair arms tightly. I rested my hands on his shoulders, making him relax instantly with my touch.

“Are you alright,” he asked.

“Yeah,” I told him, “I guess I have a stomach bug. I haven’t been able to eat most of the day.”

“Well hopefully you’ll feel better,” Alex smiled a little, “How about we finish our wine and then head back to the bus.”

When we got back to the bus, I went right to the back lounge and changed out of my dress. Alex had ducked into the bathroom to change out of his outfit. As I changed, I had to call Tay. She needed to help me out.

“Tay,” I greeted her as she answered.

“Kenzie what’s up,” she asked.

“We need to get a test tomorrow,” I told her, “I’ve been sick all day.”

“Okay,” she sounded worried, “Does Alex know you’re sick?”

“How can he not know,” I told her, “I got sick during our date tonight.”

“Okay,” she paused, “I’ll get the test first thing in the morning. Tell Alex you want to have some girl time with me. Then we’ll have you take the test while you’re with me.”

“Hey Alex,” I was dressed to go over to Tay’s bus, “I wanted to let you know that I want to go hang with Tay and have some girl time.”

“That’s fine babe,” he kissed me, “Have fun, okay. If you need anything, just shoot me a text okay.”

“Will do,” I told him, “Love you.”

“Love you too,” he replied.

Once I left the bus, I ran over to Tay’s bus. I needed to do this quickly. Then I needed to put my mind at ease with my test. Once I got there, Tay was just outside her bus waiting for me. I ran up to her and she took me into her arms.

“I’m so scared Tay,” I whispered.

“I know,” she rubbed my back.

“Let’s get this over with,” I sighed heavily as she led me inside.

Tay and I went right to the bathroom. She had the test right on the counter. I read the box for the instructions, taking deep breaths to calm my heartbeat. I opened up the box, taking out the piece of plastic that would tell me if I was going to have a baby or not.

I was so nervous. I was worried about what could happen to me through the pregnancy. I was afraid of how Alex would react. I was afraid he’d force me to abort the baby. I was afraid he’d hate me for wanting to keep it.

I peed on the test, and I set it on the box. Tay and I just looked at each other as she held my hands. She was truly my best friend. She was willing to help me keep a huge secret, which could be life or death for me, from Alex.

After the longest wait of my entire life, the results were in.

And I had to come up with a plan.
