I'm Not A Savior

V

I was tired of playing it safe. I needed to act on my feelings now. With Halloween tomorrow, I wanted to make my move. I needed to know if she shared my feelings. If she didn’t, I could let her go and move on out of Baltimore.

I looked over at Kenzie, watching her work on the class work I assigned for the day. I wanted her to see that I was interested in her. That I wanted her to be mine. That I would turn her when she got a little older. But I have to make sure she wanted me first.
♪♫♪ While I was working, I could feel someone’s eyes on me. I looked up, and I was greeted by Mr. Gaskarth’s gaze. He smiled at me before he returned to his work. I couldn’t help but smile. He had helped me out a lot when I had questions, and he was why I have a best friend too.
Thanks to the big project he assigned before homecoming, I met Tay and we became great friends. She’s my first friend here, but it’s nice that I have one. Being here with just my uncle to look after me has been hard.

I lost parents in a car accident when I was very little. And since my uncle moved around a lot due him being transferred a lot for his architect job, I had to tag along. This made it hard for me to have friends, but now that he got laid off from his job, he works as a bartender at night and a cook during the day. I wanted to get a job to help out, but he refused to let so I could focus on school.

Before I knew it, class was over and I started to gather up my things. I could feel Mr. Gaskarth’s eyes on me, but it didn’t bother me. He was very attractive, and also very young. I was surprised he was a teacher. He looks fresh out of college, not seasoned like some other teachers. And on top of that I was so drawn to him too, which was so weird to me. I didn't understand it.

“Kenzie,” I looked up to find Mr. Gaskarth standing by my desk. There wasn’t a soul left in the room; it was just us.

“Yes Mr. Gaskarth,” I looked up into his eyes. Their warm chocolate hue pulled me in. I wanted to drown in them if I could.

“How has your project gone so far with Tay,” he asked.

“It’s going well,” I told him, “We work well together. Thanks for making her my partner.”

“It was a pleasure,” he replied with a soft smile, “I noticed when you first started in my class that you were new to the school and didn’t know anyone.”

“Well thank you,” I replied, “She and I have become good friends.”

“Look,” he changed his tone in a more desperate one, which worried me, “I know this might be weird for a teacher to say to his student, but I like you.”

“Excuse me,” I was thrown off. What did he mean by that?

“I,” he paused and picked at his fingertips, “You know what, forget I said anything. I’ll see you in class tomorrow.”

“I like you too,” I told him without thinking, “You’re my favorite teacher here, Mr. Gaskarth.”

“You are one of my favorite students, Kenzie,” he smiled, “If you ever need someone to talk to, please stop by okay.”
--- As soon as I got home with Tay in tow to work on more of the project, I felt weird. I don’t know why, but with what Mr. Gaskarth said to me, I didn’t know what to do. I needed advice. Badly.

“Something’s bugging you Kenzie,” Tay noticed, “What’s on your mind?”
“What would you do if a guy awkwardly told you he liked you,” I asked, “And was a guy you couldn’t really have?”

“I’d see if I felt the same and act on it,” she advised, “Why do you ask?”

“Oh nothing to important,” I replied, hiding my true motive, “I was just curious.”
♪♫♪ I am an idiot. I was not smooth at all. I wanted it to be perfect and romantic. But I looked like a fool instead. There is no way I could pull this off. She throws me off so bad. I need to figure out a way to get her to fall for me like I have with her.

“You need be more smooth, Alex,” I jumped out of my skin when I heard Tay’s voice.

“How did you get into my apartment,” I asked her.

“Magic duh,” she replied, “But seriously, Alex. If you want to woo her, you need to be smooth. Not dorky.”

“I’ll keep that in mind,” I replied, “Did she mention that to you?”

“Vaguely,” she replied, “She made a ‘what if’ scenario.”
--- It was Halloween and everyone in school was dressed up. I chose to dress up as the Joker, since I became a huge Batman fan when the comics first came out. It turned out that Kenzie was a fan herself and dressed up as Poison Ivy, being as tasteful as she could so she wouldn’t break the dress code. I was in awe of her. She was truly a beautiful girl.

When class ended, I started to grade some work. I was stopped by a throat clearing. I looked up to find Kenzie looking at me.

“What can I help you with, Kenzie,” I asked her.

“Mr. Gaskarth,” she started, “I thought over what you said yesterday. If you actually like, please just tell me.”

“I don’t understand,” I asked her.

“I like you too,” she clarified, “Not like as in a favorite teacher way. I have a crush on you. I have ever since the first day I was in your class.”

“Kenzie,” I rose from my seat and locked the door to the class room, “Why didn’t you say that yesterday?”

“Because I was scared,” she explained, “I’ve had dreams of you. They never made sense. I talked to Tay for advice, without hinting her that I was referring to you.”

“You don’t have to be scared,” I reassured her, “This will be our secret. No one will find out. You can trust me.”

That’s when I kissed her. It was an innocent kiss, nothing lustful about it. I was not about to rush things with her. I wanted it slow, to make sure it wasn’t a side effect of the blood trace charm on the amulet she wore around her neck.

“So what happens now,” she asked, “I’m new to this.”

“I’ll figure it out,” I told her, “Just don’t tell anyone about the kiss or our talk, okay.”

“I promise,” she reached up and kissed my cheek, “I’ll see you tomorrow, Mr. Gaskarth.”

“Kenzie, just one more thing,” I caught her before she went to open the door to leave.

“What’s that,” she replied.

“Call me Alex when we’re alone, okay,” I asked her.

“Okay,” she smiled, “I’ll see you tomorrow, Alex.”

Notes

Kenzie finally speaks her mind! I hope this sounded good. I needed to get things going a tad faster.
