I'm Not A Savior

I holed myself up in my room. I didn’t want to leave it. I had Tessa bring Alex over so I could revoke my invitation. It killed me to do that, but my uncle and I weren’t safe anymore. Tay’s family got Tessa the stock of vervain she needed to torture Alex and to get me to work into my system with tea and bath oils. She wanted to keep me safe from the one man that had done so.

I haven’t stopped crying since I saw his emotionless face. My eyes were dry and puffy all the time. I was tired constantly. I had nightmares every night of Alex ripping my throat apart. I couldn’t eat because it would just come back up. I felt like I was dying of my broken heart.

Graduation is in two months. I had to make it through it. Then I was going to live with Tay and have her protect me from Alex. I went to Alex’s apartment once, and I watched a young couple move into it. That meant Tessa got them a house somewhere outside town to torture Alex so no one would hear his screams.

I met up with Tessa before school started for the day. She knew I was miserable. School killed me every day, and she only kept going to keep me alive. We both knew if I did die and Alex turned it back on, he’d turn it right off again and leave it off. We both didn’t want that for him.

“School is almost over,” Tessa said as she held me, “Then you can run away from us. You need space away from him. I know you don’t want to forget about him and how you feel for him. Just go away to forget this pain. You need it more than anything.”

“I know,” I told her, my voice was shaky, “It just hurts so much to be in a one-way relationship.”

“I know,” she sighed, “I went through something like you are when Alex first turned me. I was madly in love him for twenty years before I got the idea that Alex didn’t love me back like I did. I turned my emotions off for ten years to get the pain to go away. He was the one that got me to turn it back on.”

“So you owe him,” I replied, “That’s why you’re torturing him to turn it back on.”

“I’m doing it because I’ve done it a couple times before now,” she replied, “I know his triggers to inflict the most amount of pain without damaging his psyche.”

I was studying in the library during my free period when I felt a breeze. I froze instantly. I knew what that meant. I could feel eyes glaring into my back. I slowly turned around to find Alex staring at me. I gulped and shakily packed up my things. I made a break for the door, but Alex got in my way. He got there so fast, I rammed into him and fell backwards onto my back. I was terrified by this new Alex. I wanted my old one back so bad.

“Where are you going little lamb,” Alex taunted.

“Away from you,” I replied, fear in my voice.

“Well I’m hungry and blood bags suck,” he said sadistically.

“And,” I wanted to hear the rest of his plan for me.

“I’m eager to try your blood,” he smirked and showed his fangs, “I want to taste what I denied myself.”

Alex picked me up and I felt him bite me. I could feel my blood filling his mouth. The edges of my vision began to turn grey. I felt like I was going to die right then and there. My life was about to end in the arms of the man I love that hurt me.

“Let her go, Alex,” I saw Matt over Alex’s shoulder.

“I’m stronger than you, Flyzik,” he taunted as he dropped me. I crumpled into a heap as I watched the two of them stare at each other.

“But he has me to help reign you in,” I looked out the corner of my eye to find Rian standing not too far from us.

“And us too,” I looked the other way to find Jack and Zack.

“Easy Kenzie,” I felt myself being picked up. I saw the blond hair so I knew it was Tessa, “Here, drink some. It’ll help you heal from what he did to you.”

I took a few sips of her blood, I didn’t want to take too much from her. Tessa grabbed my things and I fell out of consciousness as she took me away from the school.

I woke up in my room. It was dark outside and I saw Matt was sitting on my roof just outside my window. I spotted Rian in my comfy chair, reading a book from my bookshelf.

“You’re awake,” Rian smiled as he closed the book, “You had us worried.”

“What’s going on,” I asked.

“Alex tried to kill you,” he replied, “We have him locked up in vervain-laced rope over at his new house in the woods. He won’t come after you anymore.”

“Did I die in Tessa’s arms,” I asked him.

“No,” he replied, “We made sure you were still alive once we got you home.”

“What about my uncle,” I asked.

“He’s compelled to not invite Alex in if he breaks out,” Rian told me, “Tay’s coming back. She’ll be helping to keep Alex on a tight leash while you finish school. She’ll be around tomorrow to help you start packing. I’m going to help her and Zack get you out of town. Jack and Matt are going to help Tessa torture Alex into hitting his switch again. But we need something from you.”

“What’s that,” I asked.

“We have to record a tape of you being tortured,” he explained, “It’ll only be the sound of you screaming in pain and calling for Alex to help you. We won’t actually hurt you. We just need you to be a really convincing actress for it.”

“I’ll do it,” I said without hesitating, “I want him back and I will help in any way I can.”
