I'm Not A Savior

XI

We all made it home in one piece, thankfully. Everyone was back to the usual routine now, well except for Tay. She hasn’t shown up for school since we went out to thecampgrounds. It’s nearly Thanksgiving now and we’re all worried about her. She’s been gone for two weeks.

“Kenzie,” I called out as class was dismissed, “Can I talk to you for a moment?”

“Sure,” Kenzie hung back and waited for the room to clear out. Once it was empty, save for us two, I decided to start the conversation.

“Have you heard from Tay,” I asked her as I closed and locked my door, “I’m worried about her.”

“I did last night,” she replied, “She was taking time to grieve with her family. Her mom might had been a vampire and killed her own husband to turn, but they still loved her and it hurts them all now that she’s gone.”

“Did she tell when she’d come back,” I asked her.

“After the holidays,” she replied, “They’re going up to New York to see some family. They’ll be in the north for a while.”

“I hope she gets some closure up there,” I told her, “She deserves it. She sacrificed a lot to help us.”
---
It was Thanksgiving now, and I’m spending it alone. Kenzie was going on a road trip for the holiday out to Rhode Island to visit her family with her uncle. Tess and Matt went out on a long hunt for the weekend. I chose to stay home and watch some football and what not during the holiday.

“Spending it alone I see,” I jumped out of my seat when I heard her voice.

“Carmina,” I growled when I saw her, “What are you doing in my apartment?”

“Alexander,” she smirked tauntingly, “You really need to start living with a human to keep me away.”

“Get out,” I snarled at her.

“No,” she replied, “I will have you back. But in due time. I’m here to warn you.”

“About what,” I asked her, not trusting her one bit.

“If you disobey anything I tell you,” she paced around me, “I’ll hurt her.”

“What are you talking about,” I played dumb to cover for Kenzie.

“I know about the human,” she informed me, “I watched you walk with her before the full moon two weeks ago.”

“If you lay one finger on her,” I warned her, “I will rip your dead heart out of your chest.”

“I’m so much older than you, Alexander,” she teased, “There is no way you’d take my heart while you feed on animals.”

Before I could argue more with her, she dashed off and grabbed a knife from my kitchen and stabbed me with it in my stomach and twisted it a little. I groaned out in pain and fell to my knees. She simply laughed and disappeared out of my apartment.
---
I stayed in the same position Carmina left me in, when I heard a soft knock before my apartment door was opened. I looked up to see Kenzie walking in.

“Alex,” she about screamed, “What happened?”

“Carmina,” I groaned, “Can you pull out the knife?”

“But you’ll bleed out,” she questioned.

“Just,” I groaned again, “Do it. Please. I’ll heal.”

Kenzie simply nodded and pull the knife and tossed it aside. I fell over onto my hands, breathing heavily as I felt my wound seal itself back up. Once it was over, I looked up at Kenzie, puzzled by her presence in my apartment.

“How did you find where I lived,” I asked her.

“Tess told me before school was let out for Thanksgiving,” she replied, “In case I was back in town early from my trip to see family. I’m glad I got here when I did.”

“The knife wouldn’t kill me,” I told her, “I have to have a stake through my heart or heart ripped out among other ways to kill vampires.”

“But who did this to you,” she asked.

“Carmina,” I answered, “She found her way into my apartment and she threatened you.”

“Alex,” I could tell she was scared, “How does she know about me?”

“She watched us when I took out for a walk,” I replied, “The night before we planned out the ritual we did to get Lisa out of you.”

“What are we going to do,” Kenzie was terrified, and for good reason.

“I’ll protect you,” I promised her, “She is not going to get to you.”
---
“I want to drive my hand into her chest so bad right now,” Tess growled as she balled her hands into tight fists.

“Well we can’t, babe,” Matt tried to calm her down.

“We need to get the rest of the guys here,” I told them, “It’s time to get the band back together.”

“Who are you talking about,” Kenzie asked as she sat in my lap.

“My friends that’re out on the west coast,” I told her, “They should be here by next week.”
---
Oh I delivered the right time of arrival for the guys. I got word from Matt that they had landed and were on their way today from the airport. I had Kenzie over to meet them. Kenzie was over again, having lied that she was with Tay when she was really with me. Soon Matt finally arrived.

“Well it’s about time you got back, Matt,” I complained as he walked in.

“He had to help us arrive fashionably late,” my best friend shouted as he walked in, “I’ve missed you, Lexy you old coot.”

“I missed you too Jack-o,” I greeted him with a hug, “How was life on the west coast.”

“Not as nice as it is on the East coast,” he replied, “I’ve missed it here.”

“Same here,” our other friend, Zack, chimed in as he walked in.

“I’ve missed the local coffee joints here,” our fourth friend, Rian, added in.

“It’s great to see all of you guys again,” I greeted Rian and Zack, “it’s been far too long.”

“So who’s the human girl,” Jack asked as he wrapped his arm over Kenzie’s shoulder.

“That’s Mackenzie Tyler,” I told them, “She’s my girlfriend I guess.”

“Yes,” she added as she came over to lace her fingers with mine, “I’m his girlfriend. You guys can call me Kenzie.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Kenzie,” Rian greeted her, “I’m Rian.”

“Sup, I’m Zack,” Zack waved to her.

“And I am Alex’s bestest friend in the whole world,” Jack beamed, “and the name is Jack.”

“It’s nice to meet you guys,” Kenzie greeted them, “But I thought Tess was his best friend?”

“Nope,” Tess smiled, “I’m more like a little sister to him.”

“Oh okay,” Kenzie nodded before I pulled her into my chest.

We all ended up spending the day together. Kenzie and I put the knife incident behind us for the mean time. I know now that Carmina is intent on getting me. And she knows the only way to claim me is to make me turn off my emotions.

And I’m going to let that happen.
