Dear María

It's been a long day. We finished the show quite late and went to a bar to have a couple of drinks, except Zack, who prefered staying at the bus. We came to the bus to find him watching the news.
“Hey, Zack” Alex, Flyzik, Vinny and I greeted.
“Hi” he said back.
I was about to walk away when the reporter started to say something about Hipica Collserola and some famous youtuber. I turned around and sat down on the couch, alert.
“…The famous spanish youtuber, María Mussons, had an awful competition just two hours ago. Everything was going fine until, in the last jump, her mare, Stella, twisted her right foot and fell on top her…”
I felt everyone’s eyes on me and I froze. I couldn’t think of anything else, when a small video of María’s fall appeared on the screen. Someone had a caption of Stella’s landing, in which you clearly saw how her foot turned and her body was tilted to one side.
“…we haven’t got a lot of information since her instructor, Oriol Fusté, left in the ambulance with her. However, we did talk to one of her best friends, Ruben Gurdensen , who stated that María’d been in a hospital previously for attempting suicide, although she’d been trying to end her life continuously in past three months by jumping from cliffs, excessive drinking, drowning, and bleeding”
I started to shock. I felt tears rolling down my cheek when I focused again on the screen. There was a small caption of some fan who recorded her talking to Oriol before the competition. It was in spanish, but someone put subtitles.
"Why do you have Jack’s name written on your palm?”
“I just felt safer with his name written on myself. Just as a reminder to stay calm. I have a bad feeling about today”
Then, there was a small video of María after Stella had stood up and she was lying down, obviously in pain, in front Oriol and another guy. Oriol was saying something to her before he and the other guy took off her helmet and gloves and he walked away to get the paramedics. María started to frown, then her face went serious, thinking about something, and then she smiled. She moved her hand, someone zoomed in the caption, and there was name written on her hand. She continued to smile when the paramedics rushed to her and carried her to the ambulance.
She had my name written on her hand? One small part of me awwed, but another part of me wondered why whe did that. My thoughts were interrumpted by the reporter.
“The youtuber, had her ex’s name written on palm and read it several times when she was being transported to hospital. One nurse from the hospital, who claims to have know the girl since she was 13, informed she had broken 17 ribs, and may have some internal organs damaged. That was all for tonight, have a nice evening”.
Fuck, no, no, no, no, no. This wasn’t happening, this was a nightmare, surely. No, Jack, it isn’t.
I needed to see her and talk to her. I noticed an arm on my shoulder and saw Alex looking at me concerned.
“I’m so sorry, bro” he said. Matt sat beside me.
“I give you my permission to skip those two last shows” he stated, “I know how much that girl means to you” he patted my shoulder. I remembered she gave him a Mickey Mouse badge and felt a bit better, but I was starting to become anxious with the idea of seeing her again.
“I hope things turn out alright for you guys, I really do” Rian smiled a tiny smile. I just sighed and stood up to pack my things. I could keep my mind off her.
