Thinking of You

When I Find You, I Find Me

Cora woke me up when we got to my apartment building and helped me stumble into the elevator at my apartment. When we got to my floor, she helped me into my room.

“I’m gonna take a showerrr,” I slurred.

“I don’t think that’s such a good idea little sis,” Cora replied.

“Aww, come on. What’s the wooorst that could happeeeen?” I asked.

“You could slip and fall and die?” she asked sarcastically.

“Pfft,” I said and got into the shower.

--

Showering drunk wasn’t such a good idea. Of course, as I was drying off, I slipped and fell on my arm.

“Fuuuuuck!” I whined.

Cora walked into the bathroom.

“Oh my God, what happened?” she asked.

“Fell on my arm,” I replied.

“Can you move it?” she asked. I tried to move my arm.

“Noooo,” I whined.

“Alright, let’s get you to the ER,” she said, helping me up.

--

By the time we got to the ER, I’d sobered up. After about an hour and a half, a nurse brought us into a room and a doctor came in.

“What seems to be the problem?” the doctor asked.

“I think my arm’s broken,” I told him.

“Let me have a look,” he said and examined my arm.

He nodded.

“I’m sorry, Arianne, but your arm is definitely broken,” the doctor told me.

He had a cast put on and put my arm in a sling and sent me home with some painkillers. By the the time we were done, it was almost two AM.

The next day, I called The Greene Turtle and quit my job. I didn’t know for sure how long my arm would be in a cast, but it definitely wasn’t worth holding my job when they could easily replace me.

--

“Come on, Ari. Zack’s ancient history! You gotta put yourself back on the market!” Cora said to me. We were out at Starbucks, having a light brunch. She was currently trying to set me up on a blind date.

“It’s not even about Zack. I just don’t want to date,” I told her. Part of that was true, and part of me just wanted to hold out, just in case.

“Well, too bad. Jeremy is a great guy. Aaron has been friends with him since eighth grade,” she told me, speaking of her long-time fiancee.

“Fine.” I sighed and Cora clapped her hands gleefully.

--

It was a Friday evening and I was getting ready for the date. We were going out to this nice, small restaurant called Benny’s. I hopped in the shower, soaping down every part of my body. I shaved my legs and exfoliated them.

I hopped out and dried and straightened my hair. I dressed in a long red shirt, a navy blue skirt, red tights, and grey boots. I slipped on my peacoat and grabbed my keys and my purse, heading out to my car.

I drove to the restaurant and got out, going into the restaurant to wait for Jeremy. When he came in, I couldn’t deny that he was attractive. He was tall and thin, but not without some muscle. His flat-ironed dark brown hair framed his pale face and his green eyes sparkled with mischief.

“Hi, I’m Jeremy,” he said, holding out his hand.

“Arianne.” I smiled as I shook his hand.

“Shall we?” he asked, and I nodded as he led me to a table.

We talked nonstop through the entire meal, but it was nothing like how I felt around Zack. Alright, I’ll just admit it. Zack had ruined me for all other guys. But surprisingly, I didn’t mind one bit.
