Chapter 6
Alex was the first of the two boys to notice the sound of the front door being slammed. He was also the first to notice the slow and carefully footsteps of Joyce Barakat walking up the stairs. He quickly pressed his hand against Jack's lips to silence the boy and slid off of Jack's lap. He shuffled further away from him and quickly came up with a plan.
"Hey, Jack. I know we're having a good chat and all, but do you mind if I stick some music on?" He said, just as Joyce opened Jack's bedroom door. Jack instantly caught on.
"Yeah sure, the speakers are over there. Oh, hey Mom!" Jack said, as Alex went over to the desk in the corner, "I didn't hear you come in."
"Of course you never," She winked at him, "Are you going to introduce me to your friend?" Jack looked over to Alex.
"I'm Alex, Alex Gaskarth," Said boy replied with a grin, "And you must be Jack's mom?"
"Correct," Joyce smiled at the pair, who were now sat subtly raving to the faint Blink 182 song that was playing, "Will you be staying for dinner?"
"I dunno... It's getting pretty late..." Alex replied shyly. He didn't want to overstay his welcome.
"Nonsense! Dinner will be ready in 15!" She called as she left. Both boys let out a sigh. Then they both burst out laughing.
"Jacky?" Alex asked.
"Yeah Lex?"
"That was really awkward..."
"I know right! Dammit, why can't the woman knock?" Alex laughed at that.
"Ya know, Jacky... We've been kissing a lot today..."
"More like making out, Lex. It's been... Fun." Jack smirked, knowing fully well that it had been way more than fun.
"Well, I was thinking that maybe..."
"Maybe what, Alex?"
"Maybe we could... Ya know... Be..."
"What are you trying to say, Lex? I don't understand what you're trying to tell me."
"It's nothing, Jack. I tried to tell you earlier but you didn't get it either so... Just don't worry about it Jacky. Don't worry about it."
"No. Tell me Alex! I'm worried now that you don't want to be my friend or anything more at all!" Jack almost yelled, shuffling away from Alex a little. Alex's face showed confusion and hurt and that make Jack feel a little guilty for shouting at him. Alex put his hand on Jack's knee.
"That is everything that I don't want to happen, Jack. Being you're friend isn't what I would like, you're right. But I would hate it if we didn't talk. I would prefer to be your friend than never speak to you," His eyes were solemn and he took a breath, "I want to be more than friends, Jack. I want to be able to hold your hand when we go to the park. I want you to kiss my neck right behind my ear where you know I like it. I want to hold you in my arms and never let you go. I want to take your home to meet my parents and introduce you as my boyfriend. Yeah, we haven't known each other very long, but I know one think about you that makes all the difference. I know that you ran after me when I was crying. No one has ever done that, Jack. You changed for me. I know that if I was to run to your house crying my eyes out, you would hold me tight, make me a tea and let me cuddle with you until the tears went. I know I'd do that all for you, Jack! And I know we started off rough but you can't deny that feeling you got when we were kissing before your mom got home. That was special, Jacky. You can't deny that you got a boner." He smirked at that last bit. Jack's eyes were wide and his mouth hung open a bit. He blinked a few times. Then he choked on his tears and pulled Alex into the biggest hug he'd ever given someone. Alex giggled.
"Wow, Lex," He said between sobs, "I don't know what to say."
"You don't have to say anything. You don't have to give me an answer. It's... It's fine, Jacky." Alex said, also with tears in his eyes. Silence fell over the room.
"Lex?"
"Yes, Jacky?"
"I want to be everything you want and more. I want to do all those things. I want to go to the cinema with you and pay for both our tickets. I want to take you somewhere secret and claim it as our special place. I want to wake up each morning and text you 'Good morning, babe' just because I can. I want to hold your hand at school and laugh in all the arseholes' faces because they don't have what we would have. I want to be your boyfriend, Lex! I want that! And you know that I'd gladly make you a tea and cuddled with you when your down. Dammit, I'd do that anyway, even when you're happier than ever! You know I would, Lex, you know I would." And Alex threw his arms around Jack's neck and smiled the biggest smile he could muster.
"I'd that a yes then?" He whispered shyly.
"Dammit, Alex! Of fucking course it's a yes!" And Jack crashed their lips together in an innocent yet passionate kiss that left the pair breathless.
And then, as if she'd known, Joyce called, "JACK! ALEX! DINNER!" from the bottom of the stairs. The boys rolled their eyes but quickly hurried downstairs, just because it meant food. As they arrived in the kitchen-dinner, the smell of delicious spaghetti bolognese wafted up their noses. Alex moaned and Joyce laughed.
"Tuck in! But it's hot so be careful!" She said and she turned to dish up her own dinner. Jack instantly began to shovel spoonful after spoonful of spaghetti down his throat. Alex carefully took his time to eat gracefully. He slowly picked up some spaghetti with his fork and used his spoon to twirl it around his cutlery. He then delicately placed the mouthful between his lips and smiled over at Jack, who had bolognese sauce plastered around his mouth. Soon each boy had an empty plate and a full stomach.
"I see you enjoyed that Alex!" Joyce said, her smile radiating the entire room.
"That was uh-maz-zing!" Alex replied over excitedly. She laughed and Jack just sat their smiling.
"Hey, Mom! I don't think I introduced you to Alex properly."
"That's not true, Jack. Alex is you're frie-" She said.
"Alex, this is my Mom. Mom, this is my boyfriend Alex." Jack interrupted. Shock covered Joyce's face. Alex took Jack's hand and they smiled at each other. Then her face broke into two with the biggest smile the boys had ever seen.
"Oh my god! Boys! I'm so happy for you! N'awww! Come here!" And she pulled them into a hug with a vice tight grip. Both boys beamed at the approval.
"Thanks Mom! I didn't expect that reaction. I mean, I haven't come out to you officially, so I thought that..." Jack said, blushing.
"You thought I hadn't noticed the inappropriate noises coming from your room when I came in?" She laughed, "Boys. It's fine. I approve. I think it's very sweet and I'm sure you'll be good for each other." She beamed before pulling them in for yet more hugs. Both boys turned a violent shade of red just because she'd heard them getting... Intimate, shall we say.
"But seriously, I'm happy for you both. I really am," Joyce called her hands together, "Right, who wants dessert? I have brownies in the oven!"
