~Jack's POV~

After staying in bed cuddling with Alex for a few more days, he eventually convinced me to go home so I could have a good nights sleep at a hot shower. I kept refusing; I slept perfectly fine in Alex's embrace, but I had to check on my mom and look after her too. She was a grown woman and could look after herself, but I felt like I had a responsibility to care for her. I had called her everyday and she said she was fine with me staying at the hospital, but you could hear in her voice that she missed me.

I gave Alex one last kiss and left. I would visit him tomorrow, after school (My mom was making me go back tomorrow). We promised to text eachother, and when I got out of the shower, I was going to ring him.


The cab stopped outside my front gate, and I paid the driver the necessary amount. I stepped inside the house to find my mom in the living room sitting with someone I hadn't met before.

"Oh honey, you're back!" Joyce squealed with excitement as she stood up and gave me a hug. "I've missed you! How's Alex doing?"

"He's doing good, he should be home in the next few days, hopefully. They just need to remove his stitches and then he will be all set, I think. I've missed you too, mom." I kissed her on the cheek and looked over to the man that had stood up from his previous position on the arm chair. "Who's this?" I asked, in the most polite way possible.

"This is John. We work together, and he's just popped around for a drink." My mom replied, looking at John with a sparkle in her eye.

"Nice to meet you John." I smiled and leaned forward to shake his hand.

"Nice to meet you too Jack. It's great to finally meet you in person, Joyce hasn't shut up about you!" He laughed, rubbing my moms back.

"Nothing bad, I hope." I laughed with him. "Right, I'm off upstairs, I'll see you guys later." I waved and bounded up the stairs, hopping into the shower almost immediately.


I stayed under the hot water for about half an hour before I realised that it was about time for me to get out; Alex would be expecting my call. I dialled his number and put it on speakerphone, whilst wrapping a towel around me. He answered almost immediately.

"Why hello doctor! I've been waiting for your call for ages!" He spoke from the other end of the line. I'd be lying if I said that nickname didn't turn me on at all.

"Sorry, I stayed in the shower for a while, it felt so nice!" I admitted, hanging my head in shame.

"Don't worry, it's all good. How's your mom?"

"I think she's good. I haven't spoken to her properly yet because when I got here, she was sitting with this guy, John, I think his name was. They looked like they were having a good time, and I think they're getting a bit romantic, but who am I to say? I'm terrible with all the romantic stuff."

"Ooh, Miss Barakat's getting some action!" Alex shouted.

"Alex please don't say that, it's weird." I laughed.

"Okay, sorry." He giggled. "And you are romantic! You're the most romantic person I know! You're good at some other things as well.." I blushed and looked down at my feet, not knowing how to reply. "Anyway, speaking of romance, I'm out of here on Saturday, so to celebrate, I'm going to take you out on a date. A proper one." He said proudly.

"And don't I get a say in this, Alexander?" I joked.

"Nope. I'm even going to choose your outfit for you. There's something in the mall that would look super cute on y-"

"I'm not letting you buy me anything!" I practically screamed down the phone.

"Yes you are!" He shouted back. "And you kind of saved my life, so I owe you something.

"But you give me everything by just being with me." I said quietly. "And you've already forgave me. That's all I could want and more."

"Yes but I was going to forgive you anyway, not just because you saved my life, dumbass."

"Okay, okay. But after this, no more." My voice turned serious. I didn't like him spending money on me.

"Okay." He over-exaggerated his dramatic sigh. "Right, I have to go, but I'll see you tomorrow! And I'm expecting texts throughout the day!"

"Whatever you say, Hun. Bye!" By the time I hung up, I was fully dressed, so I decided to head downstairs.

"Hey mom, where's John?" I asked, looking around the room.

"He left about 10 minutes ago, why?" She looked at me.

"Just wandering." I replied, looking through the cupboards in the kitchen. I was always hungry. "What's going on between you two? And don't say nothing because I know there's something." The responsible side of my personality was poking through.

"Me and John are sort of.. Seeing eachother? If you don't want me to, I understand, sweet heart."

"No mom, you don't know how happy I am that you've found someone!" I jumped up and down with happiness. My moms been on her own for years, so it was nice that she now has someone else to look after her, besides me. "As long as you're happy, I'm happy. Are you happy?" I asked her.

"Of course I am! Don't worry Jack, John's a lovely gentleman." She smiled the biggest smile that I think I've saw her smile for years.

"Mom, I'm so happy for you." I really was. I could feel tears pricking up at the back of my eyelids. I think she's finally found someone that's going to make her as happy as Alex makes me. "Right I'm going to bed, love you." I grabbed some biscuits out of the cupboard and made my way upstairs.

"Love you too." My mom smiled at me again, and then turned back to the show that was playing on the TV.
