The Good Life

Dress Up

*Alex*

“I have to get a lilac flower and you and all the other groomsmen have to get lilac handkerchiefs.” Rian told me as we walked into a tuxedo rental store downtown.

“Lilac is such a chick color.” I joked.

“I know, but that’s what Cass wanted.” He sighed.

“Hello! How may I help you two?” An employee came over and asked.

“Hi I came in about a month ago to I guess pre-order two tuxedos and today we’re here to try them on and get them fitted.” Rian said.

“Ah can I have your first and last name, please?” The employee asked.

“Rian Dawson.”

The guy left to go get the tuxedos from the back and Rian I sat down one of the couches. There was only like three more weeks until the wedding so we did kind of wait until the last minute to get fitted. Rian’s cousins were going to be his groomsmen but they lived in some other part of California so they were renting their tuxes from somewhere else. Austin was also going to be a groomsmen, but he was working today and couldn’t come with us to get fitted today.

Rian didn’t seem nervous or anything about the wedding, if anything he seemed happier if that was possible. It made me feel bad to know to still be keeping such a big secret from him. I don’t why I’m stressing over this; Rian is such a down-to-earth, easy-going guy and he would probably understand once I told him Oli and Cass were drunk off their asses. Plus telling him would get it off my mind and everything would go back to normal. So I’m going to tell him.

“Hey Rian there’s something I-“

“And here are your tuxes Mr. Dawson.” The employee interrupted me and sat our tuxes on two dressing room doors.

“Thanks.” Rian said.

We both went into our separate rooms and started to undress. I guess Rian wasn’t really paying attention to me cause he didn’t ask me what I was about to say. I was building up the courage to try to tell him again, but my phone went off in my jeans pocket and it was the text tone I had set for Jack.

To Alex:
How’s things going with Rian?

To Jack:
Everything is fine. Why do you ask?

I swear he could always sense when I was about to do something out-of-limb.

To Alex:
I just wanted to make sure you weren’t being weird around him or anything.

To Jack:
Haha I’ve only been with him for only like fifteen minutes. Everything is fine.

“Are you dressed yet?” Rian yelled from his room.

“Yep. Give me like two seconds.” I lied. I was nowhere near ready. I quickly pulled off the rest of my clothes and threw the tux on as fast as I could. When I walked out Rian was looking at himself in the mirror and un-wrinkling parts of his tux.

“Dude you look badass. Like James Bond or something.” I said.

“Shut up.” Rian blushed. “This thing feels more comfortable than I thought it would. Proposing to Cassadee is the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. I don’t think I’ve ever been happier.” He gleamed.

I felt my heart fall into my stomach as I heard him speak. I almost ruined his wedding and happiness and for what? To tell him something that meant nothing. I’m a horrible friend.

“I’m really happy for you, Rian.” I said sincerely.

“I’m sending Mary and Kelly over to alter your tuxes right now.” Ricky, the guy who was helping us, told us.

“So do you think you’ll be proposing to Jack anytime soon?” Rian asked.

“I don’t know. I haven’t really thought about that. I kind of don’t want a big wedding, we could go down to the court house and get married in thirty minutes for all I care.” I laughed.

“Like your dad and Dr. Fey did?” He said and I glared at him. He knows how much it bothered me when I found out my dad and Dr. Fey eloped.

“Yes I guess like they did, but I would tell everyone instead of going behind their backs.” I said bitterly.

“Whoa calm down, Princess. You should be over that by now.” He reasoned.

The ladies came over with their measuring tapes and safety pins to fix some minor problems on our tuxes.

“I am over it. I was just saying.” I pouted.

“Do you think Jack will fight you on having a wedding?”

“Um maybe, yeah, most likely, but we’ll be fine.” I said.

“You two go step out of your suits and we’ll have them ready next week for you. Just don’t lose or gain any weight by then.” One of the lady’s told us.

We laughed along with her and went to do as we were told. Once we finished we thanked everyone who helped us and walked back to Rian’s car.

“So Cass has been acting a little weird lately, do you think she’s acting that way because she’s nervous?” Rian asked as he started his car.

“Yeah of course. Cassadee loves you, you know that. And women always have like mental breakdowns before getting married because all the stress they go through making sure everything is perfect. Plus her mom is probably making her more stressed.” I wasn’t completely lying, Cass did love him a lot.

“Yeah you’re right. I’m worrying about nothing.” He smiled.

I was greeted by Izzy as soon as I opened the door. She ran right up to me and waited for me to pick her up.

“Hi babes, what did you and Papa do today?” I asked her.

“Went to Vic and Mike.” She smiled.

“You went to Vic and Mike’s house?” I asked.

“Yeah!” She exclaimed.

“Hey how’d it go with Rian?” Jack asked...again.

“It actually went well. I’ll admit there was one point I was thinking about telling him about what happened, but I decided against it. I think we should just let it go, it wasn’t that big of a deal.” I said and he nodded.

“Okay, it never happened.” Jack agreed.

“Daddy, play with me!!” Izzy said as she dragged me to her play room. She was taking me to her hair salon so she could ‘do my hair’ for the tenth time this week.

Notes

Sorry for the small filler chapter before the wedding! I'm basically Alex, I was so conflicted in this chapter I had no idea what I would do in this situation.
