Sing It Out

Jack's POV:
I deepen the blade into my skin and I suck in a large breath from the pain, this is the deepest that I have cut so far. I quickly pull out the blade and drop it onto the shower floor and stick my arm under the warm water. I close my eyes and hang my head forward, letting the water clean the cut. I have been hiding my cuts well from my parents and my uncle, they have no idea. I haven't really talked to my friends, they were at May's funeral, but that was the last time I saw a lot of them. Its been a few weeks now since that one night, and I have a cut from each day that has passed. I turn off the water and dry off, I stare at my arm, the cuts got deeper as I went. I get dressed and brush my hair a bit before heading downstairs, no one is home, dad is at the car shop working, and mom is working as well. My uncle I think he's just roaming town. I go outside and check the mail, I quickly look through the mail and see a letter from the summer music program. I walk inside and sit at the kitchen table and quickly open the letter. "We are pleased to inform you..." I stare at the letter more, get up, and throw it in the trash.

"Jack hurry up and get me those tools!," my dad yells at me. I quickly grab the tools he needs and run over to him. "Stop being so damn slow, you need to be quick in here." "Sorry dad." He grabs the tools from me and I go back in the office. Since I have nothing to do this summer, my dad forced me to work in the car shop. I sit down in my chair and spin a bit, I really hate it and to have my dad yell at me. "Jack," I hear my mom. I look up and see my uncle and my mom. They come in and close the door. "Jack, why was this in the trash?," my mom pulls out the letter and I look away from her. "Jack you got in," my uncle says happily. "What's the point..." "Jack." "I haven't even touched my guitar since that night mom. I haven't sang either. There's no point in me going." "Don't you remember how much you wanted to go?" "Not really mom." "May would have wanted you to go." "Just shut up mom, okay. I can't go anymore. Plus dad won't even let me go." "Not if we tell him a good story to convince him to let you leave for the summer," my uncle speaks up.
____________________________________________________________________________
"We think it would be best for Jack if he came with me for the summer," I hear my uncle say. "What do you mean." "Jack hasn't been the same since that night, and I think it would be best for him if he came with me for the summer. To get away from everything." "Jack is fine." "I don't think he is." "Are you saying there's something wrong with my son." "I'm not but-" "Then drop it." "Please listen to him," my mom speaks up. "I know you have noticed that Jack hasn't been the same since that night, he blames himself for what happened. I think with him being stuck here is making it worse for him." "Well who's going to help me in the shop." "That's just typical of you, who's going to help me in the shop. How about you think what's best for Jack instead of what's best for you," my uncle snaps. My uncle walks out of the kitchen and smiles at me before going upstairs.
