Running From Lions

Chapter 1.

I was starving, fucking famished, really. Maybe if it hadn't been two weeks since I last ate, I wouldn't be doing this crazy idea. I don't really care though, I've done it before, just in smaller houses. Break in, take what I need, leave. That easy. These things might think they're clever, but they really aren't. They hardly have any form of security, often relying on their powerful senses to help them out in case of something like this.

Idiots.

Looking up at the home I had found, I noticed it was quite....what's the word? Big and expensive looking. I almost wanted to try and burn it down. I wish I could live in something like that, instead of laying on the ground or hiding in the shadows.

But I couldn't. One, because I needed to get in there, not destroy it. And two...well... I don't have anything to start a fire. I'm not even sure if I knew how to.

Looking around into the night, there wasn't anything else really around. I wonder why this place was so far from any neighbors, or the town that I know is just a few miles east. Maybe this thing liked privacy? Who knows... Stepping closer, I tried to figure out the best way in, when I noticed a small window close to the ground. A basement. Perfect. Quickly making my way over to window, I pressed on it till the glass clicked inwards and I was able to slip through. Thank God for being so thin... I don't think I would have gotten in otherwise.

Once my feet hit the floor, I quickly pause and listen. My ears might be weak, but I can definitely put them to use in this situation. It's late and quiet, if anyone is awake, I could hear them moving. For a few moments, all I can hear is the crickets outside, and I decide that whoever is here is asleep and won't be awake anytime soon. Walking quietly, I maneuver my way around the boxes and what seemed to be old furniture in the basement trying to locate the stairs.

Soon I was climbing up the steps and the room I stepped in made my gut burn with more jealousy and hatred. Everything was just so...so nice. Clearly I stumbled across one of the more wealthy Hybrids' home. The sofa looked better than any form of bed I've ever had, there were pictures and decorations everywhere. If I could even hope to walk into a pawn shop and sell these things, I sure as hell would.

Padding around, I searched the place until I came across the kitchen. Looking into the pristine and rather large area, I could almost feel my stomach yell for joy. Finally. Food.

I stepped over to the fridge first, figuring I should rehydrate before anything else. I didn't mind leaving my sent on anything, I would be long gone before the owner or owners of this place even pick up on it. Looking inside, I had to blink a few ties to adjust to the sudden bright light. There was everything I could have hopes for in there, water, juice, alcohol. Groaning a little, I reached for a bottle of water first, just wanting to quench my thirst before I went crazy. Besides, I could also fill it up with something else and take it with me. If only for a little bit.

It take long for me to get lost in the amount a food that was stored in the fridge, cabinets, even some drawers had food. I was in a frenzy, letting my hunger get the best of me. I think it was worth it though.

“Well,” A voice said, and I froze, feeling my eyes widen. “Look what we have here.”

Fuck.

I didn't turn around, I didn't move. I was got red handed, a box of crackers in my hand. There was random items on the ground, and my bottle now filled with some red juice on the counter. The person...thing, behind me seemed to realize I was moving anytime soon. Not yet anyway. I have to play this smart. If I try to flee now, he'd only catch me.

“A pest seemed to have found it's way into my house.” He said, voice low and almost like a purr. I wonder how they do that. Maybe their anatomy is different on the inside too. “Turn around.” He demanded.

I didn't move.

“I said, turn around.” He growled, successfully making me jump. Slowly, I turned my head first getting my first look at him before my body followed suit.

Fuck, canine hybrid. Looks like a wolf as well based on the scruffy look of his tail and larger, pointed ears. The fur kinda matched his dark brown hair, only with silvery grey added to it. I stayed silent, staring at him as he smirked back at me.

“Now, where did you come from?” He asked. I didn't answer. He only chuckled. “Not speaking, huh? You should know better...”

I do know better. I just don't give a shit, I think.

“Okay, fine.” He said, and he stepped closer to me. Wait Jack...just wait. His clawed hand reached out to grab me by the tattered shirt I wore...or maybe the shoulder, but either didn't matter. Once it was within reach, a strategically placed hand behind me grabbed a stray knife and slashed through the skin of his palm.

My brain immediately kicked into flight mode as the Hybrid howled in pain. Bolting past him, I ran towards where I had last seen a door, hoping to God it led outside.

“Get back here you little bitch!” I heard him scream, right as my hand wrapped around the handle. Twisting it, I was annoyed that it was locked, so I quickly fumbled with the bolt, hoping to get the fuck out of here before-

My body was suddenly slammed into the wood, my hand still clutching the knife pinned against the frame.

“Gotcha.” He growled, and twisted my hand enough to make me yelp. “Drop it.”

I didn't have much of a choice, my wrist was twisted more in a way that made me let go of the only weapon I had. Once the clank of the knife landing on the floor sound, my arms was bent against my back, and the bastard was talking in my ear.

“Now, let's try this again.” He spoke, “You're going to move your head to either yes or no to my questions, or I'm going to break your fucking neck. Got it?”

I slowly nodded my head. I was fucked.

“Are you a runaway?” He asked.

I shook my head.

“Oh, a stray? No owner?”

This time I nodded.

“Interesting.” He said, and tightened his hold on me. “Are you alone?”

Nod.

“No one else is stalking in my house?”

I nodded.

“You better not be lying to me.” He growled suddenly, bending my arm and making me whine in pain. “Last question, and this time you can speak. What's your name?”

I stayed silent, he didn't deserve to know.

“Answer me, or I'll brake something.” He threatened, but I just shook my head. “Have it your way.”

With that, a quick movement from him cause my wrist to finally snap and I screamed out in pain. Squeezing my eyes closed, I tried to will the feeling away, but my body was being turned and slammed the opposite way against the wall, making me face the fucker.

“Open your damn eyes and look at me.” He demanded. It took a bit, but I finally pride them open to stare into the honey, brown eyes of what might as well been a demon to me. “What. Is. Your. Name?”

The stinging of my wrist was enough to get me to comply. Eye casting downwards I muttered out in a quiet voice.

“Jack.”

“Well, Jack.” He said, suddenly wearing a wide smile. “Welcome to hell.”
