Unexpected

I was in the kitchen with Lisa. We were making her specialty for dinner. Meatballs! We should really invite Jack over. He loves the meatballs. Anyways, we were having laughing a lot and making a mess of the kitchen until Sebastian came home.

He was quiet as usual. Just said hi to us, kissed Lisa’s cheek, and then he went up. Lisa gave me “the look”. Lisa always told me to be his consultant. So like any other dad, I went to my son’s room and talked to him.

“Hey buddy.” I creepily went in.

“Hey dad.” He looked up from his book.

“So, your mom and I were wondering about you… and well we were wondering why you’ve been so blue.”

“Well, uhm there’s a girl.”

“Ooh..” I started to get interested “Did you sleep with her?”

“Eww, no dad. Why would you even ask that?”

“Right, sorry about that. Who is it?”

“Kenzie.” He mumbled softly, but I had a sharp ear. I heard him. “It’s just, she’s skeptical about feelings. I’m trying my best not to let my feelings get in the way either, but it’s hard.”

“Just let her be. If you’re the one for her, she’ll warm up.”

“Yeah, I’ve heard that before.”

“Well, whoever told you that is wise.” He chuckled and it lit a smile on my face.

“Dad, do you promise you won’t tell anyone about my feeling for Mackenzie?”

“Promise… Now come on, your mom and I made meatballs for dinner.” I pat his head and he grinned. He stood up and put his arms around my shoulder. He was slightly taller than me.

My boy is growing up.
