After telling our parents when we were going to be home and promising to be safe, we got in the car and drove off. I plugged my iPod into the stereo and pressed shuffle. Lana del Rey's "Diet Mountain Dew" came on. Not now, I thought. Skip. Maroon 5's "Figure it Out". Skip. Blink-182's "Feeling This". I smiled and set my iPod down. I loved this song so much, mainly because it reminded me of my best friend, Bradley.
Fate fell short this time, your smile fades with the summer
I thought about how close Bradley and I had gotten last summer, and how I thought he liked me. But summer ended, and Bradley got a girlfriend. I felt betrayed on the inside, but I smiled and supported him. I complemented his girlfriend's taste in music, even though I hated Blood on The Dancefloor with a passion. Bradley started to grow apart from me. I'd play our favorite All Time Low song, and he'd say "Oh my God, turn it off".
Look to the past and remember a smile.
I miss his smile, I thought. I did. I missed his laugh, I missed the way we could joke around together. I missed everything about him.
I skipped the rest of the song and a few songs after that until I got to "Weightless". I smiled again, remembering where I was headed. I turned down the music and looked at my brother. "It's finally happening!"
He laughed. "I'm glad I can finally take you, they're awesome live."
"Yeah, the dick jokes don't seem forced at all," I said. He cracked up. "No, I'm serious. This might be the best night of your life."
I smiled. "I think it will be."
This could be all I've waited for.
Oh yes, Alex. I thought. This is all I've been waiting for.
