All My Life I've Been Searching For Something

I got dressed quickly after my alarm went off. It was my first day at college and I was incredibly nervous. I was terrified that I'd be the only one still blind in all my classes. Of course, my friends were still blind, with the exception of my friend Rian who'd fallen in love with a lovely girl called Cassadee who was a really great singer. Rian assured me she was "like nothing he'd ever seen before" which was ironic, considering the situation.


I live in Essex, England and my name's Alex. I'm still blind, just waiting for the right one. It kinda sucks living in a world where everybody's born blind and the only way you can gain sight is by falling in love, although everybody's in the same situation so I guess its not that bad. There are some rules to it as well. Anybody who isn't blind isn't allowed to tell blind people about the appearances of things. I had no idea what I even looked like. Non-blind people also aren't allowed to set blind people up. You had to find your soul mate alone, without any help. If anyone was found to be breaking the rules, they'd get killed. Although I've never known anyone actually get killed so I reckon its just a rumour to keep everyone in line.

The whole point of the blindness was to make sure you fell in love with someone for them, not their looks. I could also see the metaphor of it as well. When you fall in love with someone, you see the world in a different view. In this case, it was definitely true.

The world didn't always used to be like this. My mum told me stories when I was younger about how times were before the war, the same stories her mum told her when she was younger. Apparently there was a massive world war which was only settled by some higher powers dropping sedative gases onto whole countries, then using some really technological stuff to remove peoples sight. They figured that if everyone was blind, they wouldn't be able to start wars and if they were in love, they wouldn't want to anyway. I had to admit, it made sense and it clearly worked because there hadn't been any sort of war since they did it. It just sucked that everyone had to be blinded for world peace. I just couldn't wait to fall in love so then I'd get to see, as well as getting my soul mate. I always wondered what she'd be like and what she'd look like. I was so jealous of Rian having already gotten his sight and his soul mate. He said not being blind was the best, especially when he had Cass.

It was strange though, because what if you just never found your soul mate? What if you didn't want to find love? What if you fell in love with someone and they didn't fall in love back? Or even worse, what if you found your soul mate and then when you were both unblinded, they changed and you fell out of love? Would you lose your sight again?

I have panic attacks about it sometimes. I'm scared I'll never find my soul mate. I'll die blind and alone. My mum does her best to reassure me, saying she knows what its like to be blind. The world can be a scary place when you can't see anything and there's nobody beside you to make you feel ok.


I just can't wait to find my one true love and start our new lives together.

Hey! I started another new fic! I've been resisiting the urge to start writing it ever since I thought of the plot so I finally just gave in


I'm pretty excited for this one bc its an original idea (idk about you but I've never seen it done before so)


the plot is mine, the idea is mine, if you've seen the idea done somewhere before, I have not stolen the idea, it is completely a creation from my own mind:)

P.s I know I said I wasn't going to start a new fic until summer because of my exams but the fic I'm planning to write in summer (the sequel to 'Who Said It Was Gonna Be Easy?') is definitely going to be a long fic whereas I'm not planning for this one to be that long so yeah :)
