Chapter Sixty-Four: #deep
(Three Months Later)
December 30th 2014
Everything had been going great.
We'd had friends over, just close friends, for an overdue Christmas dinner. Alex & Stephanie arrived with their little boy, Drew. Zack arrived by himself, & Rian & Cassadee arrived together.
"How are you?" Alex asked as he held Drew in his arms, rocking his son back & forth gently. I drew in a breath & let it out slowly, gripping the counter behind me as Jack left to check on the barbecue in the backyard.
"I've been good. A little on-edge, but other than that... fine," I said. Alex nodded, although he didn't look too convinced. He looked a little worried, if I say so myself, but I was not going to worry about anything tonight.
"Babe.. is the steak done?" I asked as Jack returned back inside.
"No. It still needs another hour," he replied, removing his shoes & placing them by the door.
"He's barbecuing a steak in the middle of winter when there's snow on the ground?" Alex asked, & I shrugged. It hadn't seemed like such a good idea to me either, but soon it wouldn't matter if the steak got done or not.
Everything started to go wrong the second Jack stepped inside from checking the barbecue. Zack & Rian were in the living room, arm wrestling to see who would win, when Zack knocked over a vase with some poinsettias in it. The crashing of the vase caught everyone's attention, & I rushed as fast as I could out into the living room.
"Zack!" I cried, going to pick it up. Alex stopped me, however, & Jack was to the rescue, picking up the whole mess quickly.
"I'm so sorry, Rebecca!" Zack apologized, but I brushed it off. It was only a vase & some flowers, not a big deal.
"Um... Rebecca?" Cassadee said from behind me, & I turned to face her. She was holding a loaf of bread in one hand, her drink in the other.
"What?" I asked, slightly confused as to why she was holding the loaf of bread to go with the dinner we'd never get to eat.
"It's moldy," she said, her eyebrows scrunched together. I looked at her like she was joking, but she shoved it in my face to look at.
"Are you- I just bought this yesterday!" I exclaimed, & I tossed it in the trash. I set down my bottle of water, & ran both my hands through my hair.
"Rebecca!" Jack yelled from the living room. I sighed & entered the living room, seeing him crouched on the floor.
"What?" I asked, more than slightly irritated.
"Drew threw up on the rug," he told me, & I had to suppress my groan.
"Well somebody get it cleaned up!" I said, & I stormed into the kitchen, Cassadee hot on my heels. I sat down on a chair & put my head in my hands.
"Cass, can you-" I immediately stopped talking, feeling like someone had just drop-kicked me in the uterus. I sat up & took a deep breath, knowing what this was from experience, & I completely blew Cass off. I stood & hobbled into the living room, catching everyone's attention.
"Jack... I think it's time," I said, & he raised his eyebrows at me.
"I just had a contraction, idiot," I growled at him, & he hopped up & looked around the room quickly.
"Shit. You guys stay here & look after Jackie. Oh fuck," he rushed out, & he sprinted up the stairs. I made my way to the front door with Zack's guidance, & he helped me out to the car after grabbing Jack's keys. Zack stayed with me until Jack arrived with a suitcase, & he tossed it in the back & took his keys from Zack.
"Jack... please hurry up," I said.
"You're being extremely calm," Jack noted as he started the car. It wasn't until he pulled out of the driveway that I answered his statement.
"Because I've experienced this before. With Jackie, I started out with fifteen minutes between each contraction, & I'm hoping this is the same deal," I said. Jack nodded & focused on the road, tapping two of his fingers erratically on the steering wheel.
This was gonna be exciting.

Who knows, this might be shorter than intended **COUGH COUGH one more chapter COUGH COUGH**
I love you guys! & I don't want this to end! But it has to. :( this way, I don't have to deal with settling on a new date for the new story. Hopefully I'll get the last chapter up tomorrow. :) That made it sound like I'm happy this is ending. No, I just don't want to keep you guys waiting like I've been doing.
