Guts

The drive to Jack's parent's place took a good twenty minutes.

My right leg was bouncing up and down with nerves as Jack pulled up in front of their house. He looked over at me and shot me a look of concern.

"Jack I'm fine," I muttered, but it seemed he wasn't having it.

"Rebecca, you're meeting my brother and my sister, and we're telling them plus my parents that we're having a baby. Of course you're nervous," he said quietly as he killed the engine.

"Well aren't you?" I asked, looking over at him. He sighed and opened his door, but he didn't get out.

"Let me tell you something, Becca. When I was fifteen, I met you. I thought, and I still do, that you were the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen-"

"How is this story-"

"Let me finish," Jack said, and I held my hands up in defense, but Jack didn't speak for a good several seconds as I stared at him.

"Well?" I asked, egging him to continue.

"I can't put it into words, but... I was nervous around you all the time, and I'm feeling the same you are; nervous as hell. I guess I just don't show it as much as you," he said. I nodded and placed my hand on top of his on the center console.

"I love you, Jack," I said quietly. He smiled and lifted my hand up to his lips, kissing it softly.

"I love you too. Now let's go," he said softly, and I nodded. Jack stepped out of the car and slammed the door as I opened my own door, and I stepped out after him. He extended his hand out to me after I closed the door, and I grabbed it, lacing our fingers together.

We walked up the drive hand-in-hand, not muttering a single word as we approached the front door. I rested my head on Jack's shoulder as he knocked on the door. We heard footsteps only seconds later, and the door was opened by who I could only assume was Jack's sister.

She smiled at us and stepped aside, letting us in. We followed her into the dining room where the rest of Jack's family was gathered, making small talk and eating snacks.

"Jack! Honey how are you!?" His mother, Joyce, exclaimed as she rushed over and engulfed her son in a hug.

"Hi mom!" Jack exclaimed, and I smiled. She released him, and Jack pulled me into his side.

"Joe, May... this is Rebecca. My fiance," Jack said with a smile. I may have known Jack in high school, but I'd never met his brother or sister.

"Hi, it's nice to meet you," May said sweetly, taking my hand in hers and shaking it gently.

"You too, I said with a smile, and she stepped back so Joe could take his turn shaking my hand.

"Rebecca! It's been a while! How are you?" Bassam asked me, and I looked up at Jack with a smile before answering.

"I've been good," I said with a smile, and it was true. Ever since Jack came back, everything has been better than good. It's been fantastic.

"How good is good?" Joyce asked, motioning for us to sit down, and we did so, me next to Jack and across from Joe and May, with Joyce and Bassam sitting on the ends.

"Like us expecting a baby good," Jack answered as a faint blush covered my cheeks. The family was silent for a few good seconds, all of them probably shocked at the sudden news.

"You're pregnant!? Congratulations!" May was the first to speak, letting out a tiny shriek of excitement. I smiled and Jack squeezed my hand underneath the table.

"How far along are you?" Joyce asked me, and I moved my hair out of my face.

"Twelve weeks and three days," I beamed, and Jack placed a hand on my belly.

"Aww! I'm so happy for you guys!" May said, and I smiled at her. I wish Elizabeth was like her; nice, sweet, loving... like a sister should be. The thought of that made me tear up slightly. It was sad that my only sister hated me, and to think.. I'd done nothing but look up to her my entire life until I was sixteen.

"Sorry guys," I sniffed as I wiped a tear away.

"It's alright, sweety. It's just your hormones," Joyce said, and I smiled at her.

"I agree," I chucked, and Jack kissed my cheek.

"Are you two able to stay for dinner?" Joyce asked as she stood up from her chair.

"Not tonight mom. We've gotta go see the guys," Jack said, and Joyce looked a little crestfallen, but she quickly smiled.

"Alright dear. Tell them I say hello," she said. Jack nodded and he stood up, pulling me up with him. We said our goodbyes and left the house, getting back in the car.

"Did Alex say where we're going?" I asked. Jack started the engine and took off before answering me.

"Yeah. He said we could head over to his," he replied, so that's what we did.

The guys were very happy to see us, and all three of them engulfed me into hugs, whether I wanted one or not.

"So what did you guys wanna tell us?" Alex asked excitedly, bouncing in his seat like a child, causing me to laugh.

"I'm pregnant," I said with a slight laugh.

"Really!?" Alex asked, and I nodded. He stood up and hugged me tightly.

"Where's Steph?" I asked when Alex returned to his seat.

"I'm right here," she chirped, and I swiveled in my seat to look at her.

"Hey babe!" I announced, standing up and approaching her. I hugged her, feeling her little bump press against me. She pulled away and smiled at me.

"How have you been?" I asked, and she shrugged.

"Better now that Alex is back," she admitted, and I smiled.

"You know I love you, baby!" Alex yelled to her, and she blushed. It seemed even though she's been with him for a couple years now, she was still starstruck that she ended up with him, and it was all thanks to me. I returned to Jack's side, and he pulled me into him.

What would these next few months hold?"
