Guts
Chapter Nineteen: A Daydream Away
By the time Saturday rolled around, I was a nervous wreck.
I was going to go see a daughter who I'd abandoned because I hated the father's guts. The more I thought about it, the more ashamed I felt.
We were all on the bus to Texas, & I couldn't stop fidgeting with anything I got my hands on. Everyone, except Jack, looked at me weird, but I couldn't blame them.
"For the millionth time, Rebecca! Tell me what's wrong!" Alex exclaimed.
"I can't," I said, & Alex sighed in frustration. He got up & walked to the back lounge. Jack placed himself to my left where Alex had previously been, & he pulled me into him.
"I'm so scared, Jacky," I said. He only kissed my forehead.
"It'll be okay, Becca," he said.
"You're scared of going to Texas?" Vinny asked. I placed my face in my hands and let out a sob. Jack pulled me up & into the back lounge where Alex was. He sat me down & closed the door.
"It'll be fine, Rebecca," he said, his voice soft and comforting. I only shook my head.
"I haven't talked to my uncle since it happened. I don't know what's gonna happen when we show up on his doorstep," I said, staring into Jack's eyes for comfort, & getting plenty.
"Alright... are either of you going to tell me what the fuck is going on?" Alex asked, sounding a little pissed off. I looked over at him & shook my head, closing my eyes as tears cascaded down my cheeks.
"Becca... I think we should," Jack said. I looked up at him in disbelief.
"You want me to tell it again?" I asked as anger flowed through my veins, "You want me to tell such a horrific story again? I was sobbing when I told it the first time, & you expect me to tell it again?" I asked, my voice calm, but quivering slightly.
"No, I-"
"Fine! I'll tell it. But this is your fault, Jack. Alex, would you sit?" I asked, & he did. I took a deep breath & told him everything I'd told Jack. Once again, I was sobbing & Jack was there to calm me down. By the end, Alex's jaw was dropped to the floor. I had then buried my face into Jack's neck.
The door opened, followed by Zack's voice, "We've arrived." My stomach crawled & I gripped Jack's shirt. I was terrified.
"Please don't make me," I begged in a whisper.
"Alex, don't you dare tell anyone else. We'll be back," Jack said, & he pulled me up & off the bus.

"Coming!" My uncle's voice rang out on the other side of the door. I gripped Jack's arm at the sound & waited. The door opened seconds later, revealing my uncle, stood there with a baby on his hip. My heart leapt up into my throat; tears clouded my vision; & I stared at them both.
"Rebecca..." My uncle said & I nodded.
"May we come in?" Jack asked for me, & he nodded, stepping aside to let us in. We entered the house fully, following him into the living room.
"So, Rebecca.. what brings you here?" My uncle asked.
"Umm.. I- I...." I stammered, not able to form a sentence.
"We're here to see the baby," Jack said, & my uncle nodded with narrowed eyes at Jack.
"You got her pregnant, & you're here two years later to see her!?" He yelled at Jack, making him jump back slightly.
"Christian! He's not the father," I said, making my uncle turn his glare to me.
"You're a little late, Rebecca," he said coldly.
"I never said I was here to take her home. That's not the case. I just want to say hello," I said.
"I don't think that's necessary," my uncle said.
"You're kidding? Tell me you're kidding," I said. He shook his head & I stood up. I glared at him before wiping my eyes and storming towards the door. Jack followed me, & we headed back to the bus, tears streaming down my face the whole way back.
All I wanted was to see my daughter; was that too much to ask?
