Sick Little Games

Chapter Thirty Seven // Jack's POV

Jack's POV:

The meal was lovely, small talk was exchanged between the two of us and we didn't get thrown out...surprisingly. We did the cheesy, yet romantic, thing of feeding each other spoonfuls of our desert and no one decided to be a dick and cause a fuss over two guys in love. It was perfect. I'd subconsciously check my pocket to check that the small box was still there. I'm not sure how Alex hadn't seen the odd-shaped lump in my pocket but, gladly, he was still oblivious.

I paid for our meal whilst Alex went to the bathroom.
"You two seem very happy, it's nice to see two guys in so obviously in love and not being afraid to show it."
"Thank you. I'm planning on proposing to him tonight...kind of nervous though."
It's nice that a complete stranger, our waitress in the restaurant in this case, commented on how happy we both were, especially with Alex's past of depression.
"He'll say yes, don't you worry. You can just tell how much you two love each other. He'd be stupid not to say yes."
A my cheeks started to heat up, whether it was from the compliment I'd just been paid or from admitting my nerves, I don't know.
"Hopefully he'll say yes. Thank you."
The waitress handed me my bank card back and left, smiling sweetly.
Alex came back not thirty seconds later.
"You ready to go home, Jay?"
Home, it was nice that he called our house his home. He always used to say 'yours' or something along those lines, but not now. Now it was our house, our own little space to fill with our personalities, our space to create memories in.
"Ermm, no, not really. There's one more place I want to take you."
Alex shot me a look of confusion but a smirk was still present on his lips. We left the restaurant, hand in hand. Our waitress shot me a smile as we left, mouth a 'good luck' to me as we left. Alex and I both got into my car and headed towards the beach.

"The beach, Jay? Seriously?"
"Yeah, why not? It's a lovely evening and a walk along the beach beneath the milky twilight sounds pretty good right now."
Alex grinned and nodded, hastily getting out the car.
I take it he agreed with me then.
I checked my pocket once more, finding the ring in exactly the same place. I followed Alex's actions of getting out the car and met him at the front of the car. I intertwined our fingers and pulled him down onto the soft sand of the beach.
We walked for a short while in complete silence, the atmosphere between us calming and relaxing. The need for words or conversation wasn't there: it was just perfect walking together, listening to the sounds of the waves lapping the sand. We'd reached the cluster of rocks that we always sat at when we visited the beach and sat down, dragging Alex with me. Alex let out a small giggle as he was pulled down to the rocks.
"You know, Jay, tonight has been absolutely perfect. Thank you."
"My pleasure, Lex, honestly. I think it's been pretty damn perfect too."
Alex turned to me, a grin spread wide across his face. He moved one hand to the side of my face, his thumb stroking my cheek slowly.
"I love you so much, Jay."
Alex moved his head closer to mine, our lips literally millimetres apart.
"I love you too, Lex."
Our lips brushed together before Alex closed the distance. The kiss was slow and filled with passion. Right now, the world didn't matter, nothing else mattered apart from us. The only thing my mind was focused on was kissing the love of my life. I could just stay like this forever.
We eventually had to pull away for air. We were both breathing heavy, our chest rising and falling in sync with the other's.
"I'll never get tired of kissing you, Jack."
"Likewise. Lex?"
"Yeah, Jay?"
Now or never, Jack, now or never.
"I've been thinking..."
"Fucking hell, I hope it didn't hurt much!"
"Lex! I'm being serious!"
Alex's face fell slightly.
"Oh. Sorry."
I grabbed both of Alex's hands in mine, gently squeezing them, silently telling him that there was no need to be sorry.
"I've been thinking...about us. Alex, I love you with my whole heart, I can't go a minute without thinking about you. I need you. You're like my own personal fix of heroin. I've tried many, many times to picture my future without you by my side, just to see what it would be like, and honestly? It was shit. You're my happiness, you're my everything. I find it impossible to think of my future without you and I want to be with you for the rest of my days, and hopefully after that too. So that's why I wan to ask you if..."
I let go of Alex's hands, stood up, fished the small box out of my pocket and got down on one knee in front of a very shocked, yet happy to the point of tears, Alex. I opened the box, struggling to do so due to how much I was shaking.
"...would like to do me the absolute honour of marrying me?"
Alex's mouth fell open, literally, his eyes filled with tears. Words seemed to fail him as he nodded ferociously. I pulled the ring out of its little slot in the box and slid it onto his ring finger- the fit absolutely perfect. I pulled Alex up from the rocks and smashed our lips together, discarding the ring box somewhere on the sand below us so I could freely roam my hands over Alex's body. Alex was the first to pull back, tears now streaming down his face, the biggest smile I'd ever seen etched on his face- I'm pretty sure my grin was just was big.
"Jay...I-I don't know what to say..."
"Well, hopefully you'll say 'yes'."
"I'm pretty sure that my reaction said it for me."
I felt my grin get even bigger, if that was even possible.
"Sure did."
I smashed our lips together once more, the kiss soon becoming heated and filled with lust. Alex was the first to pull away.
"Shall we, um, take this back to ours?"
A smirk appeared on his face and I could just about make out that special spark in his eye that he gets when he's being suggestive in the, fast growing, darkness.
"Thought you'd never ask, fiancée."
Another grin graced Alex's face.
"I can't believe you asked me, Jay."
"To be honest, that ring has been on every date we've been on in the past few weeks...I've been trying to pluck up the courage to ask you for well over a month now."
"So that's why we've been going out so much lately."
"Yup, I thought you would've caught on to it..."
"I thought something was on your mind, I know that look in your eye when you're nervous or trying to find the courage to do something."
"You know me better than I know myself, Lex. Now, I'm sorry to ruin the moment and all, but about going back to ours?"
"Definitely, we're not going to get much sleep tonight, Jay."
Alex winked at me as he laced his fingers with mine, the ring feeling cold against my hand, and dragged me off towards the direction of my car.
