My eyes stayed locked with Jack’s as light filled the room. Even with the light on, his eyes were still wide open, looking questioningly into mine. For a moment, I just stared at him in complete shock, with my mouth half-open and my eyes wide with disbelief.

It didn’t take long for my vision to become slightly distorted as my eyes filled with tears. For once, they were tears of joy, instead of suffocating heartache…

“Oh my God,” I whispered in a choked voice. “You’re awake!”

My eyes lit up and I felt full of life for the first time in what seemed like years; Jack had brought me back to life. But he didn’t look as lively as I felt… He looked very weak. His complexion was pale and there was a lost look in his eye as he stared at me.

“I thought I’d lost you... I didn’t think you were ever going to wake up!” I cried frantically.

I didn’t even think about what I was doing. I was so overwhelmed by happiness and relief that I couldn’t refrain from throwing my arms around him and hugging him desperately… Holding him as if he was mine, just like in my dream…

“Uh…” He made a small, uncertain sound.
He sounded as lost as he looked, but hearing his voice after so many weeks was like music to my ears.

I noticed he wasn’t hugging me back and I had to force myself to let go of him and pull away, worried that I was smothering him. I managed to take a few steps back from his bed and give him space and time to adjust to reality again.

His inquisitive eyes held my gaze for at least a minute and neither of us said anything. I stared at him with an expression of relief, but the expression he returned was just plain confusion. He looked so disorientated.

His eyes finally stopped burning into me and slowly wandered around the room, taking in his surroundings. I was beginning to feel anxious as I waited patiently for him to say something…Anything…

Then, eventually, after at least a minute of silence, he turned back to look at me with the same lost expression. His eyes traveled up and down my body, analyzing every inch of me, before he suddenly spoke again in a questioning, feeble voice.

“Who are you?”
