I am beyond excited to be graduating today, though at the same time I'm extremely nervous. I mean let's be honest, graduating is a big deal. I watch as Megan walks into the bathroom with her gown in hand so that she can get ready and to also give me the privacy to change. Though I honestly don't mind if she sees me get dressed.
I change out of my pajamas and get into my outfit that I am wearing under my gown. After I throw on the tacky black gown, red sash, and my black cap, pushing the white tassel to right side, I notice my mother walk into the room and instantly tear up.
"Oh my God, my little boy is growing up." She says as she pulls me into a hug and that's when Megan walks into my room in her cap and gown. Even in the tacky outfit, she looks beautiful.
"Ok mom, that's enough." I laugh as she pulls herself away from me. I watch as she leaves the room with a smile on her face. I look over at Megan and smile.
"You look beautiful, as always." I go in to kiss her and accidentally bump her with my cap. "Oh God, sorry. I'm not used to kissing you with a huge, tacky hat on." I laugh. I remove the cap from my head and pull her in for a kiss. We start to kiss for a couple minutes when I suddenly hear a voice.
"Is now a bad time?" May laughs as she walks into my room.
"Oh geez, no I guess it's fine." I answer.
"I just want to see you two and say congratulations for making it this far." She tells us.
"Thanks." Megan responds smiling. Minutes later, we leave to head to the pavilion where graduation will be in place. It wasn't long before we were there and meeting up with the same friends we have hung out with all year.
"Today's the big day! I'm so excited!" Cassadee shouts happily as she runs up and hugs us both. It was so weird to sit here and see all of us, me, Megan, Alex, Zack, Rian, Tay, Katie and Cassadee in our cap and gowns. I never thought this day would actually come. After a few minutes that seemed like hours, it was time for us to line up for the ceremony. Unfortunately, we are supposed to be in alphabetical order, so Megan and I have to separate for a while.
After a few seconds, I hear the music play and we start to walk into the pavilion. As I am walking in, I look up and see myself on the screen walking next to my partner and look around as I see families cheering. When I get to my seat, I stand in front of it and continue to watch the screen until eventually, Megan is showing on it. I watch as she smiles nervously and walks her way towards her seat. I couldn't help but smile as I watched her on the screen. I look back towards her direction and she catches my eye, so I naturally wave at her and she waves back giving me a huge smile. This whole moment is so surreal.
Now that everyone is at their seats and now seated, the speeches begin. As the speeches are on and everyone is laughing and crying through the inside jokes and touchy stories, I notice that I can't help but keep staring back towards Megan. She just looked so happy as she sat there waiting to get her diploma. Minutes later, we are raised up and the rewarding of the diplomas is about to start. Out of all of our gang, I am the first one who will be receiving it. As I walk up and get closer to that diploma, I feel myself get extremely anxious.
"Jack Barakat." As they say my name, I walk up, grab the diploma and smile the second I hear my family and friends cheering. As I walk away, I look up and notice Megan's family in the crowd near my family. I enjoy that even with everything they've been through, they are still here for her. I sit down and watch as all the other students continue to get their diplomas. Each time I hear one of our names, I get happy because I know Megan's is coming closer. Of the gang, she's last to be getting it, but you know what they say. Save the best for last.
The names continue to be called, Rian Dawson, then after a while, Katie Fuhrman. Hearing our names being called is one of the most surreal moments of my life. After some time, my best friend, Alex Gaskarth gets called. I begin to cheer as loud as I can. Him and I have been inseparable since 9th grade and here we are 4 years later, experiencing a huge moment of our lives together, then after a few more people his girl, Taylor Jardine gets called up. I cheer for every single one of us as they come through, but I know exactly what I have in mind for when Megan gets up there. After a few minutes, Zack Merrick is called and after a few more names, Cassadee Pope as well. Megan's the only one left of our friends, I can't wait to see her smile. I start to tense up in excitement for her.
"Megan Reid." As I watch Megan walk up to grab the diploma that's when I start to cheer.
"I love you baby!" I yell really loud and I see her smile big as result, trying to hold back her laughter. I then watch as she walks back to her seat. After the rest of the names get called, we start to hear the music play for us to exit the ceremony. As soon as I get out of the pavilion, I see my family and run to them.
"We are so proud of you, Jack!" My mom says giving me a hug. I look over and notice Megan's family standing next to mine.
"Where's Megan? We thought she'd be with you." Her mom says to me.
"Yeah, I don't know. I'm sure she'll come by soon." I answer. I was right. Minutes later, I see Megan come running towards us, and when she gets right up to us she leaps into my arms. She then leaps down and notices her family.
"What are you guys doing here?" She asks them shocked.
"Just because you're not living with us doesn't mean we're not here for you." Her mom tells her. We start taking pictures and as it comes to an end and we're about to leave, the rest of our friends run up.
"Hey! We did it!" They all yell as they run up. We all start to get excited and jump around and I notice our parents laughing at all of us, though I can't blame them because we probably look retarded. Then our parents decide to take tons of photos of us as a group, I mean why not, when's the next chance we'll get that?
After we finish up the photos, we all head home and as soon as we get home, Megan and I head straight to bed since we both are exhausted from the long day we've had.
