This chapter contains religious views. This is just a story and is not meant to offend anyone.

“Alex?” Jack asked after what felt like forever, but were only few hours they’ve spent watching some random TV show, which Alex seemed to enjoy at first.

“Mhm?” came muffled grunt from where he’d been curled on the couch.

“Can you explain something to me?”

“Now?” he whined in a sleepy voice, lifting his head up and looking at Jack with sleep filled eyes.

“Yeah,” but how to ask. Every time Jack had tried to come up with more or less normal sounding question it…didn’t sound normal, but then again, nothing about Alex was normal.

“I’m waiting,” Alex reminded Jack about his presence in annoyed tone.

Alex might be an angel and he might be programmed to act polite towards his human, but if he wants to sleep you better let him. He felt a little bit guilty about the way he said it to Jack, but he wanted to sleep, he was tired and a little bit hungry, but he won’t ask anything from Jack.

“How did you…like…in some notes you wrote like…like you would’ve read my mind and you wrote exactly what I wanted to know or…or something like that…how did you do that?”

“You are my human,” he mumbled, putting his head back on his arms and closing his eyes.

“Yeah, I’ve heard that, but what exactly that has to do with these notes? This…mind reading?”

Annoyed huff left Alex mouth before he spoke, “we had a bond. I could get into your head to know how you feel and what you think. Sometimes I put some thoughts into your mind,” he said without opening his eyes, like what he just said would be the most normal thing on earth.

“What?”

“Sometimes, when people don’t know what to do and are…like desperate we are allowed to do that. You called that intuition, but it’s us. We do that.”

“So, about these notes – you were in my head and because of that you knew what to write to me.”

“Something like that, yeah.”

“Mhm…” if this all is true and if Jack choose to believe what Alex said that kind of means that all his life had been lies. He never was smart enough to accomplish something on his own, because there’s always been Alex to…do everything for him, “and what do you mean – we had a bond? We don’t have it anymore?”

“You want to know too much,” still annoyed and now talking fast to get over with Jack’s questions, “I don’t know, it doesn’t work here. I’ve tried before, but in this world there’s nothing. I can’t feel you and I don’t know how you feel, what’s on your mind and it’s annoying. I was used to it. Used to your thoughts always being mixed with mine and now there’s only mine. It feels lonely now.”

“You just make yourself sound crazier with every sentence you say.”

“Yeah, whatever. Can I sleep now?”

“Umm…I don’t mean to sound rude, but you don’t have to go?”

“What? Why?” he sounded more awake, eyes open and looking at Jack.

“Well, I mean, this is my house and you kind of don’t live here.”

“Oh…yeah…I guess I don’t…” he sat up and looked at the floor like kicked puppy.

“We could meet, maybe tomorrow if you’ll like,” he felt bad about kicking Alex out, but it was his house and as much as he liked him, Alex was weird and at the same time made him feel uncomfortable.

“Yeah, I guess we can,” he answered, standing up, but his eyes never leaving the floor.

“Is everything alright?” Jack asked, worried about Alex. He looked just like he had looked back at the park. That’s not how he’s supposed to be and they both knew it. Alex is supposed to feel free, comfortable and he can be like that only when there’s Jack.

“Alex?” Jack grabbed him by his wrist when he didn’t answer and just kept walking towards the doors.

“Yes, Jack?” Alex slowly turned around, his sad eyes meeting Jack’s.

“What’s wrong? I understand that you want to sleep, but this is not where you’re supposed to sleep and I’m sorry if that upset you.”

He slowly nodded his head, his eyes falling back to floor.

“Alex?”

“Yes?” each time he spoke his voice became weaker and weaker.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“Really. I might not be an angel, but I definitely feel that there’s something wrong with you,” he said softly, smiling as he saw Alex’s lips turning into light smile at Jack’s weak attempt of making him feel better.

“It’s really nothing. Nothing too serious, I can deal with that.”

“I’m your human and as your human, shouldn’t I help you with something?”

“I help you.”

“Now you’re in a different world so what’s wrong?”

“It’s just…I’m new here, you know and…I have nowhere to go.”

“What? So technically you’re homeless?”

“Kind of.”

He might be weird, but he’s also incredibly good looking and Jack wouldn’t let someone like Alex to live on the streets.

“Okay. You can stay here. While you…kind of figure out how to survive in this world. And where exactly were you living?”

“Not today, okay? It would be too much for one day.”

“Okay…does Rian have an angel too?”

“I told you that every human have an angel that means – yes, Rian have an angel too.”

“And you…you don’t know who?”

“You wouldn’t know him, he’s here just as long as I am. I don’t think that you know him.”

“Mhm…”

This whole angel thing is too much to comprehend. Day before Jack just had a little bit creepy pen friend, about two months ago he didn’t even have that and he still lived with Rian and everything was more than normal. As normal as everyone would want, sometimes even too normal and now…now he have an angel. Real angel with wings and everything.

“Can I sleep now?” Alex pulled him out of his thoughts with a whine that would be expected more from a five year old not…

“How old are you?”

“You think that when I get older I don’t want to sleep?”

“No! You can sleep just how old are you?”

“I told you – six months older than you.”

“And that is…?”

“You really are bad with math,” he mumbled walking back to the couch.

“Well, I don’t know when your birthday is!” Jack defended walking to his bedroom, “I’ll get you a pillow and a blanket.”

“I’m still twenty two.”

“Great and why do angels have to be older than their human,” Jack walked back from his room, handing Alex a pillow and blanket.

“Jack, pleeaseee stoopp!!”

“Okay, but tomorrow you’ll tell me,” he said as he stood behind the couch and watched as Alex put the pillow and blanket down.

“You’re gonna watch me sleep?” and here it is again, his playful smirk. If Jack wouldn’t know better, he would say that he’s just as gay as Jack himself. But he doesn’t know. Who knows, but he can always dream.

“No, I was just thinking if you maybe want to change. Jeans are not comfortable for sleeping.”

“Yeah, that would be nice, thank you,” and he’s back to his child-self. How many personalities does he have?

It would be helpful if Jack could meet some other angels maybe that would help him to better understand Alex and his weird behavior. Not that he’s always weird. Just sometimes. Maybe he’s not even weird it’s just that everything he’s telling to Jack is completely new to him. Maybe that’s what makes Alex look weird and crazy. Jack’s still not sure if Alex’s completely normal. Sure, he’s an angel as weird as it sounds, but those wings were real, he couldn’t fake them, but everything he talks about. It kind of makes sense if you think about it, but on the other hand it just sounds crazy.

For almost two hours he slept in his bed, staring in the dark and thinking. Thinking about everything that had happened today, thinking about Alex, who was now in his living room, sleeping and not caring about anything that Jack was worrying about.

There was a part in him that wanted to believe everything that Alex said and he almost did believe. His stories, they all made sense, it was weird and something you wouldn’t expect to find out, but it made sense. Then there was part in him that said that Alex is crazy, that he should call someone and ask them to get him out of his apartment and while they’re doing this Jack should get out of here. He shouldn’t be here when they deal with Alex. And then there was part that said him to ignore this little voice in his head that said that Alex is crazy, that he should ignore the fact that Alex had wings, that he should just agree with everything Alex told him and just do something more enjoyable. Alex looks good, his body is just the way Jack likes and he can just imagine how good Alex would look naked in his bed. He wasn’t too thin and he wasn’t overly muscly, he was perfectly in the middle and those brown eyes….they were something to die for.

He woke up what felt like tenth time this night only now it wasn’t night anymore. There was bright light breaking in Jack’s room. He was tired, he hadn’t had enough sleep, but he didn’t want to turn on the other side and try to sleep more. He was tired of trying this night. Every time he closed his eyes he saw wings, black and big, they were everywhere in the room, all over him warm and soft, but extremely strong. That only caused more questions – are they really that soft and strong? They must be warm because they’re part of Alex and Alex is warm so his wings must be warm, but would that be possible to feel their warmness if they’re covered with feathers?

It was impossible to sleep with thoughts like these interrupting his mind. Jack looked over to his nightstand, reached over for his phone to see what time it is. 7:06, great and it was Sunday and no one should be up this early on Sunday mornings.

Silently cursing about his lack of luck he got up, pulled on some clean shirt and sweatpants and silently opened his bedroom doors, hoping that Alex would be still asleep and he will get some more time alone with his thoughts and questions. But the sight in his living room wasn’t something he was ready for.

Thank god, Alex was still asleep, his breath even and face completely peaceful but his blanket was wrapped around his ankles, he was half lying on his stomach and his back would be considered to be bare if it wasn’t for those wings. One wing was folded on his back, almost hiding whole Alex’s body, other was practically lying on the floor next to the couch. Apparently Jack’s couch was too small for Alex and his wings.

Quietly Jack walked past Alex and went into his kitchen area to make some coffee, then grab his laptop and do some research about…Alex’s kind. There would probably be only myths, as Alex would say, but it would be better than nothing. He turned off the water before it got too loud to wake Alex up, poured it in his cup and turned around to watch at Alex in the time to see him slowly opening his eyes and spotting Jack watching him.

“So you are watching me while I sleep,” his morning voice would be equal to his eyes – something to die for.

“I wasn’t here all night, just past five or so minutes,” Jack defended himself, not even sure why. This was his apartment and he’s allowed to do whatever he wants there.

“Sure,” Alex yawned, closing his eyes and only then realizing that Jack could see his wings.

That was the fastest Jack had seen someone moving, well not someone, because this someone only moved some part of their body [if wings would be considered to be part of the body]. His wings shot up, almost touching the ceilings, his left wing, which was practically on the floor few minutes before, now meeting Alex’s other wing. Alex was fast to fold them together and then…then there was nothing leaving Jack staring at now Alex’s completely bare and smooth back.

“It will take some time to get used to that,” he mumbled, turning back towards his kitchen counter he took his coffee and walked over to couch, carefully handing blanket to Alex and sitting down on the other side.

“Thanks,” Alex said quietly almost shyly, taking the blanket back and wrapping it around his shoulders.

“You know, you can sleep more if you want. You won’t be interested in what I have to do anyway.”

“You sure? I can help you with something if you want.”

“I’m sure, sleep,” Jack stated taking his laptop form his coffee table and turning it on.

“Okay,” he lied back down, putting his head on the pillow and pulling his legs up to his chest.

Jack could feel Alex’s eyes on him for a while, but somehow he was okay with that. Sipping his coffee he went on the internet hopefully to find out something more about Alex’s kind.

First comes Wikipedia, it’s always first place to look if you’re searching something.

An angel is a supernatural being of spirit – yeah, definitely supernatural being of spirit, only this supernatural being is sleeping on Jack’s couch, his feet pressing in Jack’s side and it doesn’t feel supernatural. It feels more than real – often depicted in humanoid from feathered wings on their backs and halos around their heads – yes for wings, big no for halos, not that Jack can see one. Maybe they’re somehow invisible, like Alex’s wings are most of the time.

Other roles include protecting and guiding human beings, and carrying out God’s tasks – Alex didn’t mention anything about God, but to be sure Jack should ask him later.

Second page lost Jack’s attention after first two lines – An angel is a pure spirit created by God. The Old Testament theology included the belief in angels:… His eyes running over text proved that it is only about God and Bible and supernatural spiritual angels, not the type that was on Jack’s couch.

Another said almost same as two previous – Many people believe that angels are God’s messengers at work in the world today. – but then it caught Jack’s attention – Angels come in many forms, from helpful animals to mysterious strangers, from glorious heavenly angels to earth angels, human beings who generously help others. – putting all this together it can mean that Alex is as real angel as it is possible. He does have wings, not so sure about halo, he’s kind of guiding Jack and he is meant to help Jack, but the religious part…it’s just ridiculous. How can they believe in something they can’t prove? Maybe some of them have seen an angel like Alex, with wings, they didn’t have any other explanation for it and said it was employed by God as the ministers of His will.

It was hard to imagine that Alex would be created by God. He himself said that he have mom and dad, that just proves he can’t be created by God. He is something like some different race that no one knew about because somehow they’ve been living somewhere where we – people – wasn’t able to get. They were safe where they lived, they didn’t need to hide but now…if they all are like Alex then now they’re just as scared and confused as Alex was yesterday at the park.

Notes

For the last part I obviously used wikipedia, this and this. And again, it's not to offend someone, but if I somehow did - sorry, I didn't want to ^^
It feels like next few chapters might be more or less Alex answering Jack's endless questions ;D

Speaking of other things - I'm done with exams and school, two more days, but that doesn't count!!!
