Maybe Next May

I woke up to my alarm blasting, making me want to rip out my ears. I groaned and rolled over to turn it off. As I was getting ready I realized something. Normally my mom wakes me up, why didn’t she today? I finished getting ready and went downstairs and into the kitchen where I saw a piece of paper sitting on the table.

Jack,
I got called into work early this morning so I set your alarm. There is stuff to make cereal in the fridge. Please make sure to eat it!
Love, Mom.

I signed and threw the paper in the trash before grabbing a Rockstar from the fridge and heading to school. Yeah I was about 40 minutes early but my stake board was still there so I was walking. Fan-fucking-tastic. I was about half way there and I had already drunk almost all of my Rockstar. That’s when I heard it, a car honking. I looked behind me and saw Alex’s car pulling up, Blinks song After Midnight blasting through the speakers.

“Hey, need a ride?”

I glared at him and started walking away. I couldn’t help but feel upset when he just drove right past. I mean what did I think would happen? That he would jump out, run after me, and beg for me to get into his car? This wasn’t some god damn romance novel! I sighed and continued to walk. Once I got there I threw my drink into the trash and walked to my locker, shoving my stuff in and grabbing what I needed for the day. I headed to Art, hoping to see Cass and Rian there. Sure enough when I walked in I heard Cass shouting my name and waving her arms back and forth. I chuckled and walked up the rows of seats until I was sitting into the one next to her and Rian.

“Almost late again today dude, what’s up?” Rian asked, giving me a worried look.

“I forgot my skate board here yesterday and by the time I was reminded it was too late and the school was locked up.”

“Locked up? Our key cards are 24/7, they can’t lock us out.” Cass said. Wait, what?

“Who told you that it was locked?” Rian asked.

I went to tell them but the teacher walked in, making it impossible. I shot Rian a look of ‘tell you later’ and started taking notes. Why did Alex tell me it was locked when it really wasn't. This was starting to confused the living hell out of me.

“Okay, so are you going to tell me?” Rian asked me as we walked to our next class. I sighed and made him stop so that we were standing next to the lockers, out of the way of the kids shooting to get to their next class.

“Alex Gas-”

All of a sudden my books were knocked from my hands and my face was shoved into the locker door I was standing in front of, Rian’s not to long after mine.

“What the fuck were you saying about Alex you fag?” Heath hissed into my face, making me want to flinch.

“Nothing.” I tried to say but it sounded horrible from the way my face was pressing so hard into the locker door that I’m sure I would have a permanent imprint of it there.

“Alright, Alright Heath, that’s enough. Right Lexy?” I heard a female voice saying, it almost sounded like it was dripping with venom.

“Y-yeah, whatever.”

Alex, so I bet the girls voice was Lisa’s. Then the hand on the side of my face disappeared and I almost feel to my knees. I rubbed the spot and looked at them. Lisa was practically hanging from Alex’s shoulder and he wasn't looking at me. I saw Lisa glaring at me but there was still a smile on that pretty little face of hers. I looked over to where Rian was and saw Zack helping him up.

“Zack, what the fuck bro? Don’t tell me you’re a fag like they ar-” That’s when Zack punched Heath, hard enough to knock him to the ground and slip his lip.

“I’m done with your shit Heath. Come on you two, let’s go to class.” Zack shot all of them a glare before moving to help us and getting us to walk away while Heath shouted threats and profanities.

“Wow, thanks Zack. I never thought you would do something like that.” Rian commented, rubbing his cheek like I was. Zack shrugged and kept walking until we had to say goodbye to Rian and go into our classroom.

Wow, a lot has happened today. Lucky for me, I think I just made a new friend. I looked at Zack, him and Cass were talking almost like they had been friends for years rather than minutes. He actually smiled.

Maybe today isn't going to majorly suck.
