The First Time

Zack’s POV

I waited for Emma after the last period. I am really excited and really looking forward to band practice after she agreed to come and see us play after school. Thank God, Mr. Muldoon was being nice today so he sent us out 3 minutes early. The bell finally rang and I was waiting for Emma to come out.

Emma was the first student out of the class. She was smiling and so was I.

“Are you ready?” I asked.

She nodded and we quickly went to my car like a couple of kids excited to go to the ice cream shop. I drove about 23 minutes away from school to Rian’s garage. Emma was looking excited.

“I hope you like my friends.” I said to Emma just as we stopped by Rian’s garage.

“I’m sure I will.” She replied with a smile on her face.

I was feeling really anxious. I’m not sure if the guys would keep their promise of trying to stay cool. I just really hope they like her.

Once we got in to Rian’s garage, Rian stepped out from the kitchen and he smiled while walking towards Emma.

“You must be Zack’s friend. We heard quite some things about you. I am Rian” Rian said

Emma smiled. She must’ve felt so awkward, but thank God she said something.

“I am Emma and also, nice to meet you. Are you guys a two man band?”

“No, there are four of us. I am Alex by the way” Alex finally showing up

“I’m Emma, nice to meet you and who’s the other one? Emma replied

“Me!” Jack eccentrically coming out from the kitchen. “I’m Jack and I heard that your name is Emma! Nice to meet you Em.”

I saw a smile coming out of Emma’s lips. I hope that was a sign she was okay with my friends. Well, so far so good.

“Shall we start?” I asked the others

“Yes we shall Zacky darling.” Jack joked

“Haha, very funny.” I responded

The others including Emma started giggling. Jack, why? Why? Why now? I was so embarrassed, but what am I supposed to do now? We all went to our places, but before we played, Rian went to Emma who was sitting in the couch.

He said, “If you want anything to drink or eat you can take something from the kitchen just right after this door right here. Make yourself at home.”

Emma nodded while smiling and she went to the door just before the kitchen, but stop just before we started to play.

“Do you guys want anything? I can make you something if you’re hungry or thirsty.” She offered

“I might want a hot pocket and a soda.” Jack requested

“I also want the same thing.” Alex added while giving Jack the fist bump.

“Just some water for me please.” Rian added

“Zack? Do you need anything?” Emma asked

“Just some water for me, Em. Thank you” I replied

“Thank you Em.” The others said.

I could see her smiling and going away. After the door that led to the kitchen closed, we started playing. After a few songs, Emma came back. She brought two hot pockets, two sodas, and three glasses of water.

“Sorry I couldn’t find your microwave to heat up the hot pockets. I gotta say you have a nice house.” She said with a smile

I’ve never seen her talk this much. I feel like if I could get closer to her, we could have a lot more connection. She is really cool and I know that. I just need a push to get closer to her. Just to get to know her even better.

I took my water and so did Rian while Jack was munching the hot pockets. Alex was drinking his soda and he smiled to Emma. I could see they were hitting off quite well. Rian did the same thing and Emma responded the same. Only Jack was quiet, but still, he was a bit embarrassing. We talked a lot and the five of us laughed a lot. I felt the guys were warming up to Em.

After Em finished her water, she stood up.

“Uhm guys, I have to go. This has been really fun and your songs are amazing. It’s been a great pleasure. Zack I’ll see you at school. Bye guys” She said and adding a smile.

“Bye Emma, be careful.” The guys said.

“Do you need me to drive you home?” I asked

“No, It’s fine. My brother, Joe will pick me up.” She answered. She leaned forward a bit into my ear and whispered, “I had a great time. Thank you Zack.” She smiled

After she whispered into my ear and she left, I felt something weird inside of me. Something I have never ever felt with a girl before. A closure. I knew right there that I have to make an effort to get closer to her.
