I love you
Another two weeks later, Alex told Jack he loved him. He hadn’t even planned on doing it, but it was so worth it. And he meant it with all his heart.
It was a sunny day, surprisingly warm for this time of the year, and the two had decided to go to the beach to relax. It was a Saturday, so they both had the day off and they packed picnic stuff, a blanket to lie on and some books. Then they took off.
The beach was pretty much empty because it was windy. They managed to set down the blanket without it flying away though and lay down on it. The sun was keeping them warm and they each got out their book and started to read. Alex was reading some kind of ethical theories book while Jack’s book was some science fiction thing. They stayed silent for a while, their toes digging into the warm sand, their hair flying in the wind.
Then, Jack felt a little hungry and got the picnic basket. He dug around for a bit until he found what he had been looking for: peanut butter and bagels.
“Alex, you want some too?” he asked when he had finished spreading peanut butter over the first bagel. Alex nodded.
“Yeah, thanks.”
So Jack made him one too and they munched away. It tasted delicious and then at some point, when the bagels were long gone, Alex realised he had been looking into Jack’s eyes for quite a bit now. He was amazed by the amount of time spent looking at the younger man. But he didn’t stop; he only got closer until they were kissing. It was a sweet, tender kiss.
He brought them down in a way that they were both on their sides, looking at each other. Alex looked at his beautiful boyfriend, admired the way his dark brows curved just so perfectly, like his soft, rosy lips; how his nose was just a bit too big but still looked great; how his little beard stubble made him look a bit older; and how his eyes were just so deep he could get lost in them and never find his way out ever again.
And in that moment, he knew it was right. It was a feeling that sat deep inside him, tugging at his heart.
“Jack… I have to tell you something,” he said softly. Jack perked up slightly.
“Yes?”
There was a pause.
“I… I love you,” Alex said, barely more than a whisper, but Jack heard it and it filled his heart with everything he ever needed. He felt warm inside, fulfilled, happy.
“I love you too,” he whispered back. Alex broke out into a smile so bright, it could have competed with the sun.
And in that moment, Jack knew he would never need anything else.
Notes
♥
This story is pretty much finished, and believe me, I wasn't really thinking the end would come this soon. If you want me to, I will write some sort of a-few-months-later chapter but in my opinion, it would be nice to leave it like this too.
So tell me your opinions! :)
