Responsible
Hate
The next day, Jack got home from work early because there had been a fire drill and the boss had decided to let them leave early after it. He sighed, closed the door and dropped his keys in the little basket reserved for them. He stepped out of his shoes and made his way to the living room.
“Alex, I’m home!” he shouted. No response. Weird. Alex normally would be home when he came.
“Alex?”
Still nothing. He looked in the bedroom and there he found him. He was curled up in a tiny ball, tears all over his face, his hair dishevelled to the max and when he looked up, Jack could see that his eyes were rimmed bright red.
“Alex! What’s wrong?” he hurried to him and scooped him u in his arms. He gently stroked his face.
“Hey, wanna talk about it?”
Alex just erupted in more sobs. Jack kept trying to soothe him until Alex was calm enough to point to a piece of paper on the bed.
Someone like you shouldn’t be priest. You are a shame for all Catholics in the world. You should be dead.
Oh. Jack understood now.
“Alex, it’ll all be okay. We can figure this out, I promise,” he whispered.
“How?” Alex asked very quietly.
“I don’t know yet, but we can fix it.”
“I… I have to do the service soon,” Alex remembered, beginning to sob again.
“I’m helping you. It’ll be okay.”
“I’m scared though,” Alex whispered.
“I’m with you. Now, how about a hot chocolate?”
“Please,” Alex sniffed. “And then, cuddles please.”
“Your order has been noted, it should be ready in a minute!” Jack said, winked at Alex and went to prepare the hot chocolate.
