Alex
Alex did his best to comfort Jack on their way to court. It was hard and it didn’t really help Jack. Alex knew he couldn’t act all cuddly now since they were in public but he tried his very best.
When Jack sat down in his seat next to Alex, he looked a concerning shade of green. He looked at the judge, a woman in her mid-fourties. Alex reached out for his hand and squeezed it reassuringly. Matt was on the dock, looking a bit scared. It was odd to see him scared for a change.
“Good morning everyone. We’re here to discuss the situation of domestic abuse with…”
Alex kind of zoned out. He was very tired since he hadn’t slept well the night before and to be honest, all those paragraphs weren’t exactly appealing to him. Over time, Jack relaxed a bit but then he had to make his statement. He got green again and it was visibly hard for him to walk to the chair he was supposed to sit on. Matt shot him a glare which didn’t exactly help either.
The judge did the introduction part and then started to ask Jack questions.
“Mr Barakat, how long have you and Mr Flyzik been together?”
“For almost two years,” Jack replied.
She kept asking questions, and Alex didn’t really concentrate on it until one question.
“Why do you think Mr Flyzik did all that?” There was a pause.
“Because… because I’m not worth a better treatment,” Jack mumbled, his voice rough and thick.
Alex had to physically hold onto the chair so he wouldn’t jump up and shake Jack and tell him that he was so worth a better treatment and that everything would be okay. The judge nodded and told Jack to go back to Alex.
Alex didn’t say anything, he didn’t want to stress Jack, who was green again and also crying a bit, any more. He only took his hand in his own and whispered that everything would be alright.
Then, he himself had to answer a few questions. It was not hard and he went back to his place as soon as he was finished.
Then, after the discussion of the jury, the verdict was announced. 3 years in jail for Matt. Wow. Alex and Jack did a tiny happy dance and were then able to leave while Matt was handcuffed and led away.
