Thankful
Alex was proud of how he had managed all this. He had first gone to the police-station, telling the officers about Matt again. Since they already knew him from before, it hadn’t been hard to convince them that Jack’s life was in danger and the last sceptic was convinced when Alex showed him the scar on his forehead, telling him that it was there because of Matt. The violence that was bubbling inside of Matt got obvious in that moment.
The station called for back-up of the special-forces and not long after, ten muscular men in uniforms and with guns were ready. They talked it through how to do it; they would go in at 3.30 am when it was pretty sure that Matt would be at home and sleeping. They were aware of the high risk everyone was in; Matt could go crazy and take Jack hostage so they needed to be quick.
Alex refused to leave, he insisted that Jack would need someone to comfort him during the mission. Sighing, the commander let him accompany them. It had all gone according to plan: Alex had described to them how Jack would probably open the door and it had been true. But in case Matt would have done it, they would take him straight away from the doorstep.
Jack had been scared but Alex comforted him with hugs, soothing words and backrubs. He was so proud of the fragile man for shouting back at Matt. And now, he would stay with him, for now safe of Matt.
They collected a few more things from the house for Jack and got back to Alex’s house. They both were tired but they had a tea in the kitchen; it almost seemed like a tradition by now to have a tea to calm down after difficult situations. Alex told him about how he had organised the whole thing and his eyes were glowing with pride while he told it. Jack smiled, he was so happy about being free now.
When Jack snuggled into Alex later in bed, he buried his face in Alex’s neck and had Alex wrap him in his arms.
“Thank you so much,” he mumbled sleepily.
“You’re welcome,” Alex said, his heart warming. There was a bit of a silence during which Jack breathed in Alex’s calming scent. Then, he mumbled a few words into Alex’s neck, words that made Alex incredibly happy.
“Alex, you should know that I really like you a lot.” His voice was hoarse but filled with warmth. Alex smiled widely, feeling his heart grow in love.
“It’s probably kind of obvious I guess, but I reciprocate that feeling,” he said softly.
“Yay,” Jack mumbled sleepily, nudging Alex’s neck with his nose.
Not long after, they were sleeping peacefully, cuddled closely together and holding each other tight.
