Responsible
At Home (Jack)
Jack
Jack came home on time; he prepared the food and then waited for Matt to come home. Everything looked perfect, all surfaces clean and shiny. But Jack was scared of what would happen when Matt would come home. He was really hoping Matt would be in a good mood today.
Jack had seen the new priest today in church. He looked good and was talking better stuff than the old priest but people seemed to have a hard time accepting someone new. Jack was already fully okay with him. He had said some interesting things about how to become a priest and generally how to develop into a better human. Maybe Matt should listen to him too, Jack thought bitterly. But then again, Jack wouldn’t have the church as his safe place anymore.
It wasn’t as if he didn’t love Matt; he loved him to death (quite literally). Matt just didn’t know when to stop sometimes. And Jack always deserved it; at least that’s what his mind told him.
The door opened. Matt was home.
“Hi honey,” he shouted. Jack walked to the entrance to greet Matt.
“Hey. I’ve got some food and cold beer prepared,” Jack said softly.
Without anything else, they just walked into the kitchen where Jack had prepared the meal. Matt fell into his chair, sighing contently and taking his beer.
“That isn’t properly cold,” he whined. Jack quickly got up from his chair to get Matt a new one from the fridge. The older man took it and drank some, now happy with the temperature.
Later, he accidentally splashed some salad dressing onto his white button down. Jack felt sick. Matt started to rant about how everything went wrong. Jack tried to sneak off to get him a new shirt and it worked, but as soon as he came back, Matt gripped him by his collar and one of his wrists.
“Why did you not make the beer properly cold and the salad dressing with the dark vinegar? You’re dumb,” he spat out. Jack was really scared now. Matt already prepared to hit him but then he came up with something different. He grabbed both his wrists very forcefully; Jack could already feel the bruises he would have the next morning. Then, Matt slapped the back of Jack’s head.
“Stupid filth,” he mumbled before leaving Jack. Jack sunk down. He had been lucky. He had seen and felt much worse. Automatically, he checked his body for bigger injuries. Nothing. But breathing became increasingly hard. Probably just a bit of a rib problem from something he had acquired a long time ago. He deserved all this, he wasn’t a good boyfriend. As he thought.
Jack got up and cleaned the things from dinner. He then went into the room he had “together” with Matt. But Matt was sleeping in the cellar, next to the TV nowadays. And so, Jack plopped down on the bed and started thinking about this priest.
