Be Careful What You Wish For
Chapter 14: A Pull to Her
The lanky man rocks back and forth on the couch. Everything is too loud. It’s too much. It’s only been a few days, but Jack can’t take it anymore. He can’t make out her voice, but it’s almost like someone is screaming in his ears. He hasn’t been able to sleep either because of the dreams, and don’t get him started on the visions. Half the time he almost runs into the walls because it feels like he’s there in the park or on the beach with her family. It’s torture.
Jack contemplates getting up, but he’s not sure if he can at the moment. He’s exhausted, and last time he tried to get up, he tripped over the coffee table because he thought he was somewhere else. It’s gotten to the point that Jack hasn’t been eating properly. He can’t concentrate for too long, and so he’s only been able to get up and eat cereal when he’s starving.
He really isn’t sure how much longer he can go on like this. This has to stop.
The yelling starts to die down a bit, and Jack sighs with relief. That’s at least a little better. He’s thinks about telling Alex that he doesn’t need to come over, but he decides against it. The screaming could go back to what it was at any moment, and if it does, he needs someone there to stop him from doing something stupid. Although, at the same time, Jack doesn’t want to be stopped.
When Alex gets there and comes over to Jack, the taller man gives him a smile. Alex starts to give him one back. Maybe Jack is feeling better now. Maybe everything is going to be alright, but then Jack’s smile turns to a face of pain and panic. Jack screams out in agony. Alex isn’t sure of what to do. He goes to reach for his friend, but Jack quickly gets up and away from him.
“Jack, what’s going on? What’s happening?”
“It’s so loud!”
“What’s loud? Is it her voice?”
“Yes. Of course it is. It hurts. It hurts so much.”
Alex goes over to try to help his friend, but Jack continues to walk away from him. Alex can only watch as Jack screams and yells. Finally, Jack lets him close, but it does nothing to help the situation.
“Jack. Jack! You need to calm down,” Alex says to his friend who is pacing back and forth.
“I can’t. I can’t do this anymore. It needs to stop.”
“I know this needs to stop, but acting like this isn’t going to solve anything.”
“How would you know? You don’t know what I’m going through!”
“You’re right. I don’t know, but I acting like this can’t help.”
“I can’t live like this,” Jack says as his hands pull at his hair and a single tear falls down his face. “I have to have her here with me. The dreams, the visions, they won’t go away unless she’s here with me!”
“Calm down,” Alex tries to tell him. “We’ll figure this out.”
He tries to take Jack’s hands away from his hair before he pulls too hard and a chunk comes out. Alex can’t believe it when Jack pushes him away. Of course, he can’t believe what is happening to his best friend. If anyone saw him and didn’t know what was happening to him, they would think that he’s crazy. If it wasn’t for the evidence, Alex would think that he’s crazy as well.
“Get away from me!” More tears falls down his cheeks. “I have to go see her! She’s the only way to stop all of this!”
Jack runs past his friend and out before Alex can stop him. He quickly gets into his car and speeds off in hope of locating her. He knows where she lives, but he’s never been there before. The speed of the car is above the limit, but Jack could care less. He has to get some sleep. He has to get these visions to stop. He has to feel normal again. He has to get to her before he goes completely mad.
He ends up at the closest airport. Somehow he manages to get there before a flight that is closest to her leaves. Jack has no idea how that happened, but it has. He buys a ticket and cares less at the price. He’d spend all of his money if it meant that this would stop. While on the plane, Jack is just barely able to control himself. He wants to continue screaming, but that would definitely not be a good idea. Instead, he hides himself as best he can and lets the tears flow. Again, he somehow manages to get on a flight with enough empty seats that the one next to him is unoccupied. Jack almost starts to think about all of this luck, but he can’t concentrate on it enough to even think that maybe it’s more than just a coincidence.
When the lanky man gets off the plane, he feels a powerful pull. Selene? Is that her? Is he close enough to her to be able to sense her? He manages to get a cab that takes him as far out of the city as he can. She’s not far now. It’s definitely a good thing that she doesn’t live that far from the city. Jack ends up walking the rest of the way. He can barely tell what he’s doing, but somehow his legs keep moving him in her direction. How he has not pass out, he’s not sure, but he doesn’t care either. Finally. Finally, he will be able to stop all of this. Everything can go back to normal. Well, almost normal. He knows that he can’t cut things off with Selene, and she is a witch after all.
Jack starts to become aware of his surroundings. Did he doze off? Or is he was he just too far gone? Either way, he finds himself at a park, and he also notices that it’s almost dark out. Why would Selene be here? Shouldn’t she be home?
That’s when he spots her.
This woman by the swings is not Selene, but he does recognize her. Her brown hair is chopped short, and her blue eyes almost seem to glow. She’s also smoking a cigarette just like when he saw her before. What is she doing here? Does this pull actually have something to do with the sigil on his wrist?
Jack walks up to her, and she appears to be expecting him. “Who are you? Why am I here? Where’s Selene?”
“I think it’s about time both of you stop suffering.”
Then Jack passes out.
Notes
This one is longer than the last. I just have a hard time writing up stuff like, "Jack goes here. Then he goes here." Etc.
And it looks like someone has made a reappearance. Wonder who this person is. It looks like they are finally going to be united though.
The next chapter should be a bit longer. I have more planned out for it. I'll probably go about it a bit slower because it's very important. The next chapter is also the last one I have planned out. Once it's done, I'll have to plan out the next chapters out some more. Not sure how many the next part of the story will have. I'd like to at least have five. I'm not the best at writing with that setting though, so we'll see how the writing goes. lol.
@ALoveLikeNever_14
I actually didn't plan on showing more of a reason of why she is the way she is, but it ended up getting written somehow. lol. I can see her reasoning for stuff, but she is still a bitch about it all. At least the have the summer together. I just love how Rose was taking lead with that. lol.
I'm currently trying to decide on if I'm going to add one scene or not, and then I should be able to plan out the next chapters better. The next one is easy, but I'll need to watch the pacing if the one scene is added. This week I have to write up the first draft of my short story for my writing class, so I'm probably just going to plan out the chapters this week.
And no problem! I actually find it so interesting to go back to my old stuff. I keep all of my old stories and ideas in case I want to reuse them or just look back. Fan fiction is what got me really back into writing as a sophomore, so no matter what, it's always going to have a place in my heart.
